What's unhealthy in Subway? :) Genuinely curious here. I mean, if you stick with the subs, and don't order any chips/cookies or drinks like coke...? You have bread, various kinds of meat (from the most obvious ham to more complicated things like Chicken Teryiaki, or however it's spelled), and salad... Nothing in there is particularly greasy, nothing is fried, and the salad consists of fresh vegetables of all kinds. I've always seen Subway as the healthiest big fast food chain, mainly since I was never able to find anything unhealthy in it, regardless of how hard I've tried. :)

Not that unhealthy on the face of it but i do remember reading that some of the ingredients had the same stuff that maccy d's put in there food to make people still hungry when they left. Not entirely sure how true that was.

I just put that in there I guess since it's a fast food chain, even though it's the healthiest one by a large margin, hence the whole "Subway diet." ;)

I don't smoke cigarettes.

I smoke about 2 bowl of hookah a week, though they are shared, so more like less than 1.

I share a blunt about 1 or twice a month atm.

I've never smoked, and never will. I don't even really have any friends who smoke. Second-hand smoke is enough to give me a headache, and can make me nauseous if I can't get away from it in a relatively short period of time. As such, I was pretty happy when they banned smoking on public patios (although there was one pub around that already had a smoke-free patio).

Simple question, how many cigarettes do you smoke each day ;)

As for me, unfortunately i smoke around 2 packets a day, and should smoke less in the future.

Same here.

A little less than 1. But...
A lot of those in the less than a pack get snuffed out way before they are done.

You forget about your own 2nd hand smoke, which is the worst. (So I actually get about 3 packs a day out of my 2 packs.)

smoke is disgusting. no offense to those who wish to bathe in it. :)

Of course I work in an environment where I'm exposed to second hand smoke. But we have a pretty good ventilation system.

Someone above mentioned the smell of tobacco before it's lit. Most cigs smell bad to me, but I kind of fondly remember the smell of my fathers tobacco he used to roll cigs. Of course, after it was lit it smelled terrible.

Cigars smell the best, though it varies. I think the cheap ones smell terrible.

pot smells terrible too. And you aren't saving yourself. My brother has a smokers cought from 20 years of pot smoking. He never smoked regular cigs.

No argument here. I've given up cigars because of the (after)taste and secondhand 'weed' gives me nausea or even headaches.

I grew out of it when I could afford proper drugs (gave up now of course).

I love the smell of petrol and petrochemicals though ;)

You like from exhaust pipes? Very healthy...

'Proper drugs'? All drugs are addictive. Just say no. Period. (God, I sound like my father... O wait, he never said that and I didn't smoke then...)

I smoke about a dozen packs per day.

Wow... post from a dead man. A very poor dead man.

Amyl nitrate smells better than tobacco.

No it doesn't. Tobacco smells great. (People just shouldn't smoke it though.)

According to the pamphlets that come with packs of cigarettes here, nicotine is more habit forming than heroin.

Yeah, let's switch to heroin...

A smokers cough is caused by the erosion of the hairs at the back of the throat that stop the build up of phlegm. I don't see how thats necessarily indicative of any respiratory problems. It is far from certain that cannabis has as bad an effect on the lungs as tobacco. In fact the evidence points to cannabis having a "protective" effect on the lungs, that is, it may even help prevent lung cancer.

I realise this may be hard to believe, so heres a link to some articles summarising Dr. Tashkin's study taken at UCLA on cannabis smoking and lung cancer:

Nice to know that potheads are actually really healthy persons.

Anyway, why do smokers use filters? Isn't that like buying a beer and pouring 20% away?

Why do people buy decaf? Basically ruins the whole point of coffee.

No, it doesn't.

I drink decaf, smoke only filter cigarettes, but like my alcohol straight. (It's non-beer beer that has no point: taking out the alcohol changes the flavour, which to me is the key point to imbibe. I never get drunk nor even intoxicated.)

Obviously i meant known mind-altering drugs. Nicotene has the effect of making you more consentrated, which in itself is positive.

That doesn't sound plausible... On the other hand, when they forbade smoking in public places, mental institutions had a bit of a problem on their hands, as smoking does have a relaxing effect on the (very) nervous. (Mental patients tend to smoke more than non-mental patients.)

Pot won't kill you.

Somehow that doesn't tempt me at all. Biking also won't kill me.

Also, alcohol - unless you try very, very hard - won't kill you. (Come to think of it, lots of things won't kill you. Life is fun, isn't it?)

Have you any conclusive proof that smoking cannabis is detrimental to the average adults mental health?

Last I heard the real danger with cannabis and psychosis was to teens (as the brain is still developing at that age) and those with pre-existing mental illnesses. Even with those two large groups included, cannabis psychosis is pretty rare.

Tell it to my brother.

Makes me wonder if you actually ever met a pothead.

Speaking of statistics though, there's no guaranteed 'horrid death' with tobacco: its use will only increase your chances. (Frankly, I kind of think death tends to be a bit of a horrid experience. You wouldn't wish it upon anyone, yet everyone gets it.)

You forget about your own 2nd hand smoke, which is the worst. (So I actually get about 3 packs a day out of my 2 packs.)
As my smoking is (almost) always outside, it tends to blow away most of it.

@VRWCAgent

same here, it's increasingly hard to find a enclosed or covered place to smoke as the laws about secondary smoke are increased.

Voted "not at all", but it isn't entirely true.
I have a good cigar every now and then (maybe two-three a year) and I won't say no to waterpipe.

No cigarettes though.
