How much does OT know about Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers?

Nobody told me about it :hmm:

And it is a good one. It was after that when I started to lose interest.

Oh, I misread that. I thought you said "Didn't care much for DTT"

Funny thing that although it's one of the shortest CDs I've ever heard (9 tracks) it's pretty amazing. And I heard somewhere (I believe the Runnin' Down A Dream documentry) there was over 150 takes of "Refugee."

Here's a pic from, I believe, approx. 1981.

I like the earlier albums. Say, before 1990. I like them.

I saw a documentary on him on UHD or Sundance channel or something. It covered his whole life from his a-hole father beating him and never respecting him, the whole fighting record companies etc etc, to the whole Willbury's thing, and ending with very jowled up Petty performing in Cleveland at the Rock n Roll HoF. So, yeah, I know more than enough. I do own Damn The Torpedoes, but I probably wouldn't spend money on another album.

How long? Runnin' Down a Dream was about 4 hourslong.

I don't recall. It was pretty long, I don't remember it being 4 hours long, but I was blazing so that isn't reliable. It covered his whole childhood, his career, his problems with certain bandmates, especially the drummer. It ended with a recent performance. Before I saw this, I didn't even know he made any albums after the greatest hits with Mary Jane's last dance.

Whenever I hear "Learning to fly" by Petty, I have my own variation on the lyrics:

I'm learning to fly
But I ain't got wings
And comin' down
<I'm breakin' things>

I picture some guy jumping off his roof, repeatedly.

Sheesh, he made at least 7 or 8, including the compilations and solo albums.

Also, I found a list of the Heartbreakers in each lineup so hooray, I don't need to type it all!

He's only released 2 studio albums with the Heartbreakers since the greatest hits album I was speaking of: Echos and The Last DJ. If you include his solo stuff that's 2 more albums, but his heyday was the 80's. He is one of the better artists of that decade, imo.

I really think it's sad for someone to dedicate their account to an artist. It reeks of creepy fanboi/gurlism.

I mean c'mon, it's obsessive.

You forgot "She's the One," although that's technically a soundtrack.

I found this. Interesting, very interesting...

Why does he insist on telling us he is not gay in every interview ?
