How often do you reboot?

You can decide whether to include hard boots (e.g. computer freezing up.)

I reboot about once a week (for updates) unless I need to do a hard boot. (If I need to install something requiring a reboot, it depends on how quickly I want to use it -- if it's right away, I reboot then, if not, I wait till Update Day.)

I can't remember the last time I rebooted. I did it when I had reformatted my HDD and reinstalled windows and had to download all of the automatic window updates that you get.

About every 0.59 days, according to Window's uptime utility. That's over the last 29 days. It only takes about 59 seconds for my computer to restart (shut down and boot), so there's not a whole lot of reason no to restart. Not that there's a whole lot of reason to restart when I could just hibernate, but old habits last a long time. Earlier today I meant to hibernate but clicked Shut Down before I realized it.

When I put my computer into standby/hibernate, I end up having to do a hard boot. I read somewhere it's to do with the processor drivers. Or drivers for something.

I only reboot maybe once every 3-4 months.

However I do hardboot more often than that.

Hey what do you know, 1000 posts and it only took me nearly 3 years.
Ah well, its not like it matters anyway.

If I go longer than a week, my windows box does weird things.

I probably reboot my linux box daily or more frequently. :mischief:

Reboot in the hit restart button sense once every month for patch tuesday. Shut down for the night almost every night though, pc is too loud and bright to keep on unless im really tired/have a lot of stuff downloading.
Server uptime though -- 360 days, 12 hours, 24 minutes as of right now.

whenever I mess with the kernel, the hardware, or want to install a new operating system. Usually about once every 2 weeks

I put my laptop on hibernate rather than shutting it down, so technically it only gets rebooted when there's updates. However, I only have 1gig RAM, so I reboot periodically to "start afresh". Firefox is a bastard with RAM, too, so I reboot just to kick it in the balls.

I probably would reboot less, but my mom makes me shut down the computer. She's convinced it'll catch on fire if I leave it on for a few weeks.

Leaving any electrical appliance on when you're not in, or when you're asleep, is a fire risk. I don't use the tumble-dryer or dish-washer overnight for this reason.

I tried to explain to her it was just as risky as leaving her TV on all the time. She says "but a computer has more parts." I don't know where that came from.

I think she still thinks of the PSU explosion on the old Windows 95.

I always turn my computer off when I'm done with, including the power surge.

I used to unplug the surge and the cable connection as well, but I've gotten lazy of late.

Installing the rare microsoft update that requires it (>_<) and updating drivers or if a game freezes. Or if my keybaord for whatever reason has one key not responding but that is really rare (although it's happened twice in the last week!).

So, usually maybe once a week at most. Except last week I rebooted about 20 times trying to get 3d l4d hack (not the NVIDIA glasses) to work, but it seems it doesn't work on XP.

That is, how often I restart or turn it off and then turn it right back on. I turn it off every night when I go to sleep or when I go out or to work unless I am leaving antivirus/downloads on.
