How To: Make Leaderheads! Ekmek's Guide

Alrighty then...here is the latest Austin blend.

I hope it's a simple fix and that I can add a small (but crucial skill) and get on with another project.

Yep its a real simple fix. See the attached pictured. Some how you lost the skeleton probably did the boned to boneless join objects as opposed to clicking the boneless first then the boned one. so what you do is click on your mesh, in object mode click the button i circled in red. the where you see Par: add Scene Root exactly as you see it in my picture. then export. also you may have a piece not assigned. i think its in the mouth area.

Got it. Thanks for that. You're right: very simple, but I was unlikely to figure that one out myself.

Ekmek, maybe I missed something, but I'm trying to make a LH with Justinian and when I do the nifswap it doesn't show correctly. He is lying on the side, and when i view it in the game the LH is animated, but is shown as if the camera is on the floor and all you can see is a LH torso lying on the side an eyelids flying in the air where the eyes should be. What can I do about it, and is it a problem with Justinian?

did you do the swap into scene root? thats how its usually done and in my guide but sometimes you have t o put it in another branch. there may be a ninode called justininan. trying pasting the branch there.

Yep, it really worked! It is called: "Justinian_parent". I think it is an important thing to know for people who want to make a LH from Justinian.

glad it worked! it seems to be the same issue with one of the qin and the colonizatin leaderheads (huyana is/was having that issue)

This helps me too. I was having a similar problem with an adaptation of VanDerDonk from Colonization. The nif would have him laying flat like Igor mentions, but in game he was upright without eyeshadow (and that is a weird look).

I am also having a recurring problem with LH's showing up with a blue shadow/glare in the game. Perhaps this is something to do with the "NORM" files that are blue, but I really don't know what is causing it. Forgive me if you have to answer this with another, "You'll see in my guide."

I'm back Ekmek! I really wish I never switched Blenders, I have yet to see a single benefit to me so far, as I was doing just fine with the old one. But what's done is done, so now I have to learn this. Sorry to keep harping on that, but I have wasted so much time trying to figure this thing out, I used to be able to pump out an LH in one day with the old version!

Anyway, I can't get Askia to work at all. I put him in game and I don't even know where to begin. I've had LHs screwed up before and it was never this bad (that I can remember), but here are a couple of images. One is the in-game shot, which is clearly screwed up, and then the other is the LH in NifSkope after the NifSwap was done. Ekemek you should have the files (from before, if not they are still in my LH gallery, I can't reupload it here since its already up), and I think you said you successfully NifSwapped it. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind doing it again and trying it out in-game for yourself. If it doesn't work (or looks like the image posted) then I screwed something up, but I thought you also looked at it and saw that I had everything rigged right. Anyway, what do you think the problem here is?

Thanks for the note. In an updated version of the guide this will be laid out in trouble shooting. It seems its more common than I thought.

actually this is something I've only been messing with recently myself. Coyote did it for our alexander LH. He messed with the NiPointLight in nifskope. I had this issue with Ataturk when I was using Stalin but then changed the colors there in to warmer colors. so click on those and look at block details until you see the set of stuff like Dimmer, Ambient Color, etc. You'l have to do trial and error on these colors, maybe open some other leaderheads and see their settings. the colors can be changed like the Materials Property can be. And I described how to change those colors "in my guide" ;)

you still didn't see how nice edit mode is now where if you shape or enlarge it moves without having to switch to another mode. thats the one feature i like. that and shaders

what are your export options set to? if you used the default uncheck "export skin partitions" its fine for units but not LHs

Or you may have to click on the texturing property and in block details go down to the bottom and add shaders. There might be another way because I recall coyote and few pages in this thread back helping someone on Zara too. I cant check now because percocet for my surgery is kicking in.

C'mon Ekmek, if I can make LHs drunk you can certainly pull this off. :p

I'm kidding obviously, I'll try some more. I guess I just got accustomed to pumping them out so quickly I forgot how it was when I was making my first Gustav Adolph LH.

ok, percocet wore off. the solution is here:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=8227390&postcount=500

and a few posts back you see its the same problem.

also i tried this shader trick on methyl's ashuranipal and it made the face shadow nicer and if the other shaders were there it would have made the crown shinier.

PS that askia is going to be awesome!

What's wrong with the eyeshadow in this Oliver Cromwell nif? When I add animation to it, I get the bug eyes.

I am playing with the light and it's easy enough to adjust--just frustrating to restart my mod every time I make an adjustment. Is there another way to know if it's working without starting up the game?

Hi! Ekmek. I need your help. I'm making a LeaderHead, but I need to know how to put a mustache a my LeaderHead. i don't want redesign in Photoshop, because in the game, the mustache isn't in 3D. Maybe, it's UV, but i don't know about that. Well, i dismissal.

you can take a moustache from someone else and then rig/assign it. its like adding a suit but in this case you have the lips below. so once you line up the moustache select one of lip bones and it will light-up then shift click to select the parts of the moustache that are covering that part of the lip and then press assign (including the already assigned lip parts). repeat until all parts of the moustache are assigned. if the ends hang out just give them the last lip part.

Thanks Ekmek, now I know how to put mostache to the LeaderHead:D. But when I put it (the mostache), Blender give me a message, says: ''Cannot export mesh with unweighted vertices...'' What happened? :confused:please, help me.

you didnt assign every part. this means there are unassign/not rigged parts of the body. so your moustache might have missing parts. so go through the different parts and press select and then hide (hotkey 'h') until something doesnt light up then select those parts and assign it.

man, unweighted vertices seem to be the biggest problem for everyone.

Thanks Ekmek! I'll try and fix this when I get some time, I've been busy as hell lately. If you think Askia is going to look awesome you should see what I have for Lalibela (for Ethiopia), its going to be friggin sweet!
