I shouldn't have used the terms "Militant" and "Pacifist" as they confused a lot of people as to the nature of my question.

I meant them as they relate to Evangelical technique.

Some favor a hard-sell "Militant" approach to spreading the gospel of their faith...

e.g. They stand on street corners w/ signs preaching to passersby, or make a point of guiding conversations to the topic of faith so that they may assess the potential convertee, or they might publish a fiery newsletter or webpage dedicated to their faith or lack thereof. They make a point of seeking out converts.

Atheists can be and often are hard-sellers, BTW. This is one the (not so veiled) points my poll strives to make.

Some favor a soft-sell "Pacifist" approach...

e.g. They seek out opportunities to play-up their faith and it's value to their life (and after-life) and of course extend invitations or offer information to anyone who asks, but they don't push it.

The difference between an Apathetic Believer (or Atheist) and a soft-selling Believer (or Atheist) is subtle... but distinct.

An Apathetic viewpoint is essentially unEvangelistic. No attempt is made to solicit new converts, and any that results from casual interaction is incidental.

EDIT: Added clarifying info.

I'm Agnostic-Apathetic, assuming that an athiest is someone who knows that there is no god, not just someone that does not believe in a god. If you meant someone that does not believe there is a god (but still acknowleges the possible fact), then you could call me an atheist. Also, usually apathetic means not caring all that much about something (I think), so I don't think I could be considered apathetic about this subject. However, I'm definetly not evangelistic about it, since I don't go around telling people about my beliefs.

Actually, I'm a believer-pacifist, but not evangelistic.

Beleiver: I'm a practicing Catholic.

Semi-Evangelical: I will defend and argue my faith if attacked/argued, but I won't go out preaching on the streets.

Pacifist: I think all war is wrong, but some are justified. However, these justified wars are few and far between.

This isn't what the "pacifist" part is about. Read Mojo's link for the description. ;)

I voted for that. The Militant style of Malcolm X would seem to cause people to hate rather than join you..

Atheist-Evangelistic-Militant

I personally believe that religion has caused the vast majority of this world's problems in the last few thousand years.

ironic....

I think "militant" refers to active, where as pacifist refers to pacifist. I'm not going to take up arms or anything...
