lol the peaks have blocked me off form the main part of the island and I'm Starting off near the south pole.

Here's a Picture and the 4000BC Save game if your interested.

Note: This is Prince Level, for those of you who play lower levels, thinking of trying this interesting start out and yes this is an Ordinary Continents Map

Personally I think I'll go for Early Metal Casting for the Colossus Because it looks like I'll be working A LOT of water tiles and build a couple of Gallys to settle to the north, please add spoilers if your gonna post anything about the game's future that could spoil it for me or anyone else trying out this game.

Please I'd like to hear your ideas about the starting location and how to leverage it, even though it appears I'm at a disadvantage, ah well at least I have fishing as a starting tech LOL.

I've occasionally received starts like this before. They're not really too much of a problem, I think. It looks like you're still connected to a much bigger landmass, so the peaks will only be a temporary irritation which will hinder your expansion.

Go for early Sailing, build a few Galleys and start settling the mainland.

Think of it as your small version of the Great Wall.
You're not getting any barb problem there!

I've never built the Great Wall, Besides I prefer to have a few barbs to gain a few experience points.

don't research BW, sailing is the way to go! once you have a workboat or two out, then whip a galley. Then finish getting the seafood with boats, and go for settlers while whipping defensive units. I almost guarentee a military resource at your capital given that it only has 3 resources.

You expect to whip when I haven't researched BW for Slavery???... LMAO...

Thanks for the advice btw

Yeah, i'd definately say just go for sailing then use a galley to bypass the mountains and get settlers on the mainland. It will be a disadvantage because it slows down troop movement from the capital and possibly one more city, but it will also prevent the AI from mounting a real assault on your capitol because of how badly they suck at sea invasions.

I meant sailing first so that you can get your boats going, then go for BW for whipping. There is no reason not to start the galley before slavery, but slavery does you no good before you have something to whip. Obviously the next tech is BW.

I know what you meant, it's just the first time I reed it, it sounded confusing because your telling me something that appear contradicting.

Besides I went for BW first to whip a couple of workboats, by the time I finished build 3 workboats, I'd finished researching Sailing so I built a gally and whip it too after Unhappiness wore off, that 's a better method, I believe, although Charismatic, with the extra Happy Citizen helped alot with the whipping.

I pratically have almost no proudction in my capital, except 5 forest and 1 plains hill.

I played up to 1AD so far and it's quite an interesting start

Spoiler :
It's a big continent with 4 other AIs (playing standard size map), and a Relatively large inland Sea/Ocean in the middle of the continent, and now I'm blocked off quite early to the left and right of my empire by two AIs, Looks like an early war to me.

With Charismatic, this start is a whipping paradise.

I think I agree with you on BW first. After that I'd go Sailing and Myst to build and whip (in that order) lighthouse, remaining WBs, monument, galley and settler.

I'd prioritize settling on the other side of those mountains before plopping another city on this side. Keep borders closed and the AI can't steal land on your peninsula.

Even without Whipping Bonanza, it's not the worst start w/r to hammers. Providing there aren't nearby strategic resources (and I would expect to see one on the tile N NW), you can get 9 hammers from the city in the early game. Poorish, but not by far the worst I've seen.

If you havn't noticed the Ice-bergs in the south have blocked me off the west side of the island/continent, so I settled my 3rd settler north of the corn in my current game was actually a good thing because I could use thta city as port to the western side of the continent which allowed me to settle the west side of the continent quicker.

Yes, I thought that might be the case. I would probably have shipped the settler to the east side of the continent and walked it over to the west side. Takes a few more turns, but when I looked at the start, I didn't like the west side of the peninsula much and would have held off on settling there.

If you checked the save game, after popping the goody hut, which reveal some of the map on the west side of the continent, it also reveal pigs there, so, Settling to the west might be benefical, btw...

Spoiler :
If you played the game you'd noticed the 's AI capital very close the east side of the coninent near me blocking me off from settling to the east so I'm forced to settle West... I'll conquer the nearby AI later when I finish settling the most useful tiles.
