I Can Do Better (somewhat Open SG - Read on)

That's a good idea, Slinger. I'll have to remember that one next time I join a game in the middle. :goodjob:

Before I play, I want to know one thing: are you guys going to honor any 20-turn deals or diplomatic treaties I make?

I'm not quite happy with your move to declare on America to not honor the bad-apple deal, which IMO negates the principle of the game. I had expected you to play as honorably as possible, otherwise there is no much I could do to be bad. Especially peace treaty - phony peace treaty is considered exploit.

Please let me know before I play.

My two cents:

You know, I hadn't really thought about the 'dishonorable' aspect. I guess the thinking was that the previous deal was done to trash our rep (breaking the MA's), so it was basically no holds barred. (excepting obvious exploits)

Now that you mention it, I suppose it would have been more satisfying to honor the deal, and still win at the end. I also think you're right about your options, this basically descends into you destroying an army, or gifting a city everytime you get a go. Deals are useless if we will break them with impunity.

I suddenly have a bad taste in my mouth. :( I dunno. I need some input from the others.

Well I asked, if we should do it and nobody objected for about two days, so I took that as a "yes, go on". Sure we could try to play honorable, but I had the same feelings after we made peace with Greece - no hold bars pretty much describes it.

We can do so in the future, if the team and the apple both want it, but from my perspective we could also have given up after Aggie's deal. Aggie lowered lux and research to zero and then gave away all gpt we made.

And to add to this, we fought fire with fire: :devil2:

Got it.
@Locomotive: just wait till you see the ugly big borders on my screen

I have to add a question to the bad apple rule. Is The Bad Apple allowed to trade? If yes, to what extend? Is he able to gift away all our techs and money in one trade for example? Could he lower our research and lux to zero and then give away all gpt?

He is allowed to do ONE BAD DEED. If he trades, one tech is allowed to trade away. Anything he does must be used with the number 1. If he turns our slider down to 0%, that is the end of his turn. If he trades all of our gpt away, it will be the amount that we currently have set.

I asked that not without intent (it is on page 4). We should agree to get really one action from the bad apple and then we will honor whatever deal he made, ok?

P.S. : This is not an attack against Aggie. I was happy he stepped up in the ring to let the game going, it was just a mistake and as it seems I made one myself with breaking the deal, without asking clearer if we do that.

I make a few smilies to make that clear, ok (seems I get misunderstood if I don't do sometimes). :) ;) :p  :crazyeye:

No big deal, I just want to make sure what you do in the future.

But for the sake of discussion, I don't agree that lowering slide itself is a bad deed - you can always bring it back immediately without any loss. On contrary, before you hand over the game to me you can always raise lux or research to essentially leave no gpt to me to deprive my right of giving away gpt.

In my opinion bad apple needs to make a good balance in the game between human and AI. My goal is not to let you lose miserably, but to constantly give you challenge and force you to adapt your plan to the new circumstance. You will not win easily, and you may even lose, but it will always be close. To achieve that, you have to give me more choice than limitation.

So my suggestion is that from now on you should try to honor whatever I did, just as if I were part of the team but just tend to do silly moves.

I decide peace with Alex is better and you should focus on the bigger dog. :)

Great. Just when we get something going to clear our continent we get this. Now we play defense and watch for flips I suppose. Will play tomorrow. I thiink I'm up, right?

I'm sure that the AI's city governors, unit commanders, workers, ship captains, diplomats and and trade negotiators are faced with a similar situation.

Deal negotiated, but SOD hell-bent on invasion keeps going and trashes rep. Citizens pacified, but then the MP is shuffled onto a boat and sent to criss-cross the ocean for a dozen turns while the city riots. New military technology comes on line, finally making it possible to break a stalemate in a long war of attrition, and the diplomats negotiate peace, giving away the new technology in the process. And let's not forget the ever-popular completion of a Great Wonder with the enemy camped right outside the town walls, waiting to take it away as soon as it's finished.

Microbe is right, he's just there to give us a challenge. If the hodge-podge of AI algorithms can survive each other, so can we :)

danz: nice idea to cheer us up. It's just that we founght this war for many turns and got peaced. Then we started it again and were finally on the upside and now the deity AI gets 20 turns to use his production bonus to level up again :( I had just parked a nive stack in front of the next bigger city.

I regret to inform everyone that due to my breakup I won't be able to play anymore until I can get an internet connection where I will be moving to. Sorry all, I'll miss this.

Very sorry to hear that, Slinger. :(

I was enjoying getting to know you a bit, and hope to hear from you again soon.

I'm not willing to give up the ghost yet. I kinda stubborn like that. ;)

I'll PM Danz and see if he is still interested. I'll also start looking around for a fourth again.

EDIT: Nevermind, Danz has blocked PM's. If he doesn't pick up in the next 24, I will.

What's a PM? Is that anything like an IM?

Anyway, I'm subscribed to this thread and I'm definitely paying attention! I've got it, and will play tonight. If I'm confused by something I'll save and ask a question on the newsgroup before I finish my turns. Barring that, I should post a save in the next 12 to 24.

And I'm a good apple, not a bad apple, right ;)

A PM is sorto of like a CFC e-mail, stands for 'private message'. It allows user to send messages amongst themselves without having to know an actual e-mail address.

Somewhere in you usercp options is something that says "allow other users and administrators to send me a PM". You apparently have it turned off.

Here it is in the CP. Listed under "edit options"

That'll actually work well, because all of my playing time seems to be during the week

I never seem to have much time on the weekends...wonder why that is?
