I will have to say that your "first up against the wall" ""lift"" comes from D.A. - I've known that - but almost none of the others I have heard/seen before and wasn't sure if they were yours or not.

It's [is] a refferance to a brief annotation in the "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" in which it talks about the Encyclapedia Galactica. The Galactica Editors are notorios, and as a main competitor of the Hitchhiker's Guide, are noted in the guide as "the first bunch of fools who will be up against the wall when the revolution comes."
By a bizzare twist of physics and time distortion, a copy of the Hitchhiker's Guide was sent back through time, and reported that the "Encyclapedia Galactica's editors were in fact the first up against the wall when the revolution came."
I may have distorted it some, but thats the gist of it. I laughed quite a long time after that part of the book.

Use scout units. Any scout unit can see invisable units. Your average scout can SEE a shadow, which if you pair it with a mean shadoweating unit, makes for an effective policing of your territories.

Nope, scouts see invisible animals. There are two types of invisible, and scouts only see one of them. You need marksmen or sand lions to see other invisibles.
so to potentially deal with this problem in the future, i should just try LIFE/Mind to have my dominators and floating eye without having to worry about the crapshoot of Mithril resources?

Theres always the option of "beat the living tar out of your neighbors before they get shadows" Thats the prefered method of most on this forum, methinks.

If you would know how long I played good old sid meiers PIRATES!
Edit: I can still remember those good old times
Spoiler:
Once I decided to help the dutch in their struggle against the evil spain and brought my fllet near gibraltar to sink their Merchantmen (well off course only to aid my dutch friends and not for profit) when I heard that the silver train AND the treasure fleet both were in gibraltar after they found gold there!
Off course I decided what every one loyal to the dutch would do: Free the spain from the gold which surely had used to crush the crush the dutch.
I decided to sail right in after nightfall and "liberate" the gold together with my fellow pirates.
Soon after nightfall I took course at their fort with my sloops and my 200men.
Unfortunatly they somehow spotted us and openend fire, but due to my superior skills as navigator I could bring my ships unharmed ashore and even fire 2broadsides at the fort.
It was a tougth battle since they had time to prepare and surprise was no longer at my side.
It was now me and 200 pirates against more then 1000 spainish soldiers.
Soon alll my comrades fell and I was left with still almost 1000 enemies.
I know I had to use all my skill or I would rot in prison forever.
After a very(!) long battle I finally managed to capture their commander and get them to surrender.
I capured gibraltar, which was a very rich town, the trease fleet and the silver train.
Now gibraltar was under the command of the dutch.
Surely they would reward me well for my services.
Spoiler:
Unfortunatly you need 8 men to control a ship and I was alone...
So I stranded and lost the whole treasure
And even worse meanwhile the dutch and the spain signed a peace and then an alliance treaty-> No bounty from the dutch
Yeah, i was just htinking that we should record an average of QES' effectiveness--
the number of posts in between QES' first in the thread and the last one on topic int hat thread
I agree shadows are a pain. Sand lions are only summonable on desert, which limits their usefulness. They're especially annoying for dwarven civs which don't have marksman and can't make summoners or mages

It just occured to me that I didnt actually answer your question.
The other one's arnt lifted from anything, they're just.. well me. Some situation or another brings up these quotes, sometimes the reactions I get from people when I'm talking to them makes me remember what I say - then, If I like it, I write it down somewhere.
My Myspace page tends to get the bulk of my shorter and acceptably trite quotes.
"Worry not of the things you cannot change, worry of the things you can change, but do not." - Qes (an adaptation obviously)
"Love is not a beautiful thing, it is not a rational thing. If we were truly rational creatures and truly understood love we would avoid it at all costs. It is an ugly thing, it is a compulsion to live outside of the self and for something other than self-interest. It confounds comfort and squelches certainty. It forces the mind and body beyond their limits. Love is destructive to the seperation of souls" - Qes (sometimes they get long)
Actually a few of my personal favorites are some of the ones I generated for FFH.
The Chaos Maurader
Spoiler:
TXT_KEY_SPELL_SUMMON_CHAOS_MARAUDER
"What does it do?"
"It....Maraudes things. Chaotically."
"You dont know, do you?"
"Look it says in the book, cast - then demand - then run."
"But you cast, then ran, and now demand..."
"Right. Do YOU want to go back and tell it what to do?"
"It looks mad."
"No it looks chaotic, go talk to it. Tell it we need it to sack a city."
-Kuriotate Adept-brothers Lars and Kobe Lort before the sacking of 2 Kuriotate settlements and a Cabalim Stronghold.
seems to be the most popular.
But my favorite is the one for inspiration
Spoiler:
"What reason is there to wait? If you and I are to dance why do we remain still? If you and I are to kill, what stays our hand? Why you have come to this place is irrelevant. When you move on, is inconsequential. Who's illusions could you prefer, when you might create your own? Why play at life, when you could live it instead?"
- High priest Sunn Lao to his would-be assassin, and his student thereafter.
Most others are just lift, spit shine, reapply out of context, and enjoy.

Soo... I guess if we really wanted to get rid of Shadows - just send QES after them and they'll go away confused?
Jk, Funny thread. Funny stories. I'll just tell myself that you made all those stories up yourself, and just as you start to feel proud of yourself - I'll mention to you that there are some empty pages on the Wiki for FFH and that if they were filled with creatively written stories - that might further fuel the interest in this wonderful mod.
