I've spent a few days trying to google this mystery, but can find nothing. Not only coke, but also similar drinks like 7 up. I can taste sweetness in fruit juice, chocolates, and desserts, but never in most pop drinks.

I was reminded of this because I tried drinking a can of coke recently, and it just tasted like sparkling water. Same with 7 up and some brands of fizzy orange / fruit pops.

Fanta I can taste fine, but that uses a mix of sugar, aspartame and acesulfame which is probably why.

I think its because the ones I cant taste use HFCS maybe?

How is your sense of smell? A poor sense of smell greatly affects taste.

Pepsi at least, and Coke too maybe sometimes, offer versions of the drink sweetened with sugar rather than HFCS. Try one of those and see if it's the HFCS that's the problem.

And i thought you ment the white stuff  reading the threat title.
An old friend of my mother can't stand eating anything sweet as it tastes horrible to him - this includes all kinds of fruit ( even lemons)
Stuff like this can be a matter of sensorical issues like taste and smell or even be a neuronal matter. As long as you are healthy i wouldn't mind too much.

I'd say good for you, sugary drinks are a health hazard anyway. If it was whisky you couldn't taste, then you should worry.

Ps.
Epic first post.

They don't taste like much, although it is still distinct from sparkling water. And yes, they make you fat. I am actually addicted to coke (the soft-drink) ;) I am certain i would weight at least 5 kilos less, easily, if i wasn't drinking so much of it.

To be honest the title had me there lol! I googled it and some people have this issue as well. It is mostly because you have a stuffed nose?

I read once that some people are supertasters and have high sense of taste, some are low tasters with little sense of taste, and then other people in between. I think we know where you fall. I can certainly taste coke. I don't consider myself a supertaster though, thankfully, as it would be easy to be overweight if things tasted that good for me.
