ICNES I: Troubling Future

"Peekaboo..." thought Lee,

Then he heard someone say, "Peekaboo". As Ardal dodged behind a tree, he snickered inside his head. You never spoke first unless the other person already knew you were there.

He's psychic?

I have to work on the LINESII update now, so I can't continue story writing. But we will resume later.

Has anybody seen Dachs? He hasn't sent orders.. again.

EDIT - He's gone to a place with no internet... HELL.. Starting update.

@Iggy: I was a counter-terror operative before becomeing a General. During the Americana Wars, I was a just a Senior Officier (Maybe Major) or even a junior (Captain).

Rise of the Dragon-Part 1

Tao Jian had risen to become leader of the world’s largest one part state on a reputation for incorruptibility and hawkish nationalism. Having gained the support of the economists and diplomats within the party, he finally won over the military.

Like most Chinese leaders Tao was a pupil to Sun Tzu’s Art of War but he had also been influence by von Clausewitz work Vom Kreige which advocated that war should be seen as an extension of political policy and not an end to itself. He had discussed it extensively with military strategists to ensure he understood the meaning. He then blended Clausewitz with Sun Tzu’s teachings that the supreme art of war was to subdue the enemy without fighting. “War is a matter of vital importance for the state,” wrote Sun Tzu in 500 BCE arguing that the military was the instrument that delivered the coup de grace to an enemy already made vulnerable. While Sun Tzu argued that “there has never been a protracted war from which a country has benefited” Clausewitz on the other hand insisted that “to introduce into the philosophy of war a principle of moderation would be an act of absurdity. War is an act of violence pushed to its utmost bounds”

The recent Sino-Japanese war had strengthened this view and consolidated Tao’s position allowing him to order a massive military buildup on a scale unknown since the 1990’s. China had been humiliated by Japan again…once more the disturbing pattern of history had returned to haunt China.

Never! He would not allow the Motherland to be humiliated once more. No matter what the cost.

Update 4 - 2059

Non-Military Events

Tokyo has been chosen to host the 2060 Sumer Olympics. The vote was close, but Tokyo, with 3 votes, managed to beat Pretoria, with 2 votes , in the Olympic race. This has brought the SEA-CO into a state a nationalist fever (+1 Culture)

The Geneva Summit reached only minor amounts of success. They did identify that a multi-naitonal counter-terrorist force was needed instead of using the couter-terror forces from all different countries in the same mission. The name for this group has not been made and the source of funding has yet to be identified. The talks will need to be continued next year before it can reach any success.

The 2059 Canada Games were held in Baltimore this year. Although it was overshadowed by the return of the Olympics, it was a success: economically. The Canadians managed to scrap a decent profit from this year's games,
which should last them the year (+1 Eco Point for next turn)

German restoration programs have cleared London of the chemicals that were sent by the Celts two years ago. Although small traces of the chemicals remain the majority has been cleaned up, restoring London's prominence as an Economic Center (+London Econonmic Center)

Something big is coming...(-2 Mexican Confidence, -1 Confidence for everyone else)

Pretoria, after two years of investing, has developed into an Economic Center for the Back Continent (+Pretoria Economic Center)

Australasian security loosens which already has an effect on the economic situation of the country (+1 Economy)

Argentina loses her power in South America. Her decline was brought by the struggle with the Incans, which brought thousands of Argentinians to the grave. Her position as a power was greatly weakened and many say that if she was to enter war with Paraguay she would lose. The Paraguans militarized during the Incan War and brought the most successes with the least losses, She was the first to go and Argentina was not powerful enough to do anything. This emboldened Uruguay to do the same, another nation that had begun to strengthen itself during the war. Chile was the last due to the fact that it was also greatly weakened by the war. But these three nations all claimed their independence and Argentina was powerless to stop them (-Paraguay as an Argentine puppet, -Uruguay as an Argentine puppet, -Chile as an Argentine puppet, -1 Argentinian Confidence)

Military Events

Mexican storm units and regulars captured the Southern region of Guyana which was originally held by the pro-independence rebels. These men were squashed undr the iron fist of Mexico. In Venezuela-Colombia, Mexican forces captured all the coastline and overran Bogota swiftly and fiercely. The invasions of the two Southern countries was a devastating success, however it was somewhat marred by a conflict a home (see spotlight) (-9 Mexican Divisions, -2 Mexican Tank Divisions, -4 Mexican Air Squadrons, -2 Mexican Naval Squadrons, -Venezuela-Colombia as an independent factions, -Guyanan rebels as an independent faction)

Something big is coming...(see spotlight) (-2 Mexican Confidence, -1 Confidence for everybody else)

Overseas, a failed Celtic attack put the end to this starin of terror. Celtic fanatics (including the King Aihlbe) attempted to detonate an EMP bomb in Northern Germany. This would have effectively shut down the entire naiton which depends on electricity as it's source of power. The attack failed, GSG-9 and JTF2 members managed (after a brief fire-fight) to eliminate the Celtic threat. King Aihlbe is dead and captured Celtic terrorists confirm that one of the bodies found at hamburg after the battle is indeed, King Aihlbe (-Celtic Fundamentalists as an independant faction)

Iran continues to suffer diffuculties with the various tribesmen (-2 Iranian Divisions)

Random Events

Paraguans applaud the decision against rgentina (+1 Paraguan Confidence)

With her decline set in stone, Argentine conscripts mutiny or quit causing a military crisis (-9 Conscript Divisions, -3 Divisions)

Tensions rise in the Latin World, casuing Brazil to re-arm (+5 Conscript Divisions)

Black-outs and computer failures due to a new rise of terrorism cause Canadian Industrial out-puts to shrink (-1 Industry)

The Islamic Caliphate, Shiite Iran and the People's Republic of China sign the Shanghai Accord which boosts the confidence in these leaders towards making a step into power (+1 Iranian, Caliphate Confidence)

Small amounts of Berber nationalists skirmish with Italic regulars (-1 Italic Division)

'These are normal black-outs.'

In the middle of January, Toronto shut down. The lights shut off and everything came to a halt. It was dark and storming out which added to the confusion. Two people were killed and eight injurd in the ensueing panic. The next day, Worldwide E-Mails were being received with only one word: Freedom.

Naturally this puzzled the international community. Freedom? Could it be pleas from the Guyanans and Venezuelans and Colombians? The Mexicans had brutally crushed these tw nations with little remorse. But these nations were poor, and so, they thought, would be their rebel groups.

Another thought was China. The Mongolians and Tibetans could be the answer to this. However, why Toronto? Black-outs were hitting Canadian cities and Mexican cities in particular but the messages were being sent World-Wide. CSIS had no answer. The Mossad had no answer. Nobody had an answer.

The World was plagued with these disabilities. Black-outs, malfunctioning stop lights, wierd E-Mails and the occasional 60 second interruption of a television program displaying the white letters of Freedom on a black screen. Freedom. What did it mean? There was nothing else, just Freedom.

The Canada Games went smoothly through July, abeit with a few minor technical difficulties and the car crash every now and then due to wrong lights. 'It was green!' and 'Bullsh*t! It was red, and you killed my son!' were common shouts at these games. It was happening World-Wide: in the British Isles, a soccer match was reportedly 656-781. But then a new match of wierd happens began.

On August 21st, 2059, Lt. Joseph Ryan was killed in his home. He was a JTF2 member on leave and responsible for the death of a Celtic terrorist in the Essen attack the previous year. He was shot, execution style, and his family went missing without being recovered since. The next happening was a literal bombshell.

On September 16th, 2059, the anniversary of Mexico's independence, three vans carrying bombs detonated in Mexico City. Over four hundred were killed and some two thousand more injured with damages reported to be over five hundred million dollars. Targeted were and damaged were La Plaza de la Constitución, El Ángel and Palacio de Bellas Artes. Also, the Mexican government building was also targeted and a car detonated in front of it, killing the Minister of Health and severely wounding six others. The Mexican President was not harmed however. The bill-boards that had once said 'Long Live Free Mexico' now said one word: Freedom.

Stats will be coming later.

Rise of the Dragon-Part 2

Icy winds over the past week had swept away layers of pollution that hug over the city of Peking for most of the winter. The sun broke out through the cold and cast a glitter over Tiananmen Square. The roads around it were closed of to the public. Schoolchildren packed ten deep, lined the pavements each holding the national flag and raising it high above their heads.

Loudspeakers broadcasted the national anthem and Chinese songs of liberation from it’s past of foreign control. Communist Party officials had been summoned to Peking from every province. They watched events from the steps of the Great Hall of the People to the west and outside the Museum of Chinese Revolution and History to the east. Camera crews from China Central Television roamed freely around the square. Throughout the morning Chinese networks had showed films of China’s suffering during occupation by foreign forces. The British were criticized for the 19th centaury Opium Wars and seizing Hong Kong. As well as for their continued attempts to dictate to the Motherland. The Americans were condemned for their support of the Nationalist leader Chiang Kai-sheik and his rebel armies, which had taken Taiwan an inalienable part of the Motherland. And for their accusations of genocide against the Glorious and Beloved Leader Mao. Films of World War II were shown. A black and white footage showed slaughtered troops and survivors cold dejected and emaciated.

The recent Sino-Japanese War was ripe with atrocities; Japan’s seizing of Chinese territories was harshly condemned. The Japanese were described as guilty people for all of time. They had treated fellow Asians with more suffering and humiliation than any western power. Japanese soldiers were shown massacring Chinese civilians in executions, beheadings and beatings. One Chinese peasant was tied to a lamppost, his head hanging down. Japanese soldiers skinned him until he died from a loss of blood and shock. A more recent picture from the Sino-Japanese war showed Japanese jet planes straking down on an unarmed medical convoy and using missiles and bullets annihilating it. One by one the trucks eruped into flames, and debris, the drivers and passengers jumped out screaming some of the alight. During the horrific scene the CCTV commenter said, “ Never again will Chinese people become slaves to foreign forces. Even if they have to eat roots and live in caves because of the hatred of China by the world, they shall remain free and proud. Long live Chairman and Party Secretary Tao Jinan.”

Military vehicles rolled slowly down the streets. Ahead of the marched soldiers in the green uniform of the Central Guards Regiment also known as the legendary unit 8341 which had protected China’s leaders since 1949. Behind them rolled Type 99 tanks, towed artillery, self-propelled guns, mortars, and anti-aircraft guns. On giant screens mounted all over the square pictures of Chinese battleships and cruisers were shown along with Chinese fighters and bombers who had valiantly fought in the most recent Sino-Japanese War.

It was after this Chairman Tao chose to make his address. Flanked by generals and the he climbed to the podium to address the people who had gathered here to hear him speak. Tao had chosen this place for a reason. This was where Chinese Emperors had handed down edicts over the centauries and where he had declared the founding of Communist China in 1949. The view over the exhibits of Chinese military power were richly symbolic, the architecture of Chinese Communism, the Great Hall of the People, the Monuments to the People’s Heroes. Tao spoke “ Our work will go down in the history of mankind demonstrating that the Chinese people, comprising one quarter of humanity, have now stood up. The Chinese have always been a great, courageous, and industrious nation. It is in only modern times we have fallen behind. From now on our nation will belong to the community of peace loving and the freedom loving nations of the world and work courageously and industriously, to foster it’s own civilization and well being and at the same time promote world peace and freedom. Yet there are those who oppose this work, and threthan Chinese values and all they stand for. Who you ask? I will tell you! The Democrats, the Capitalists, the Liberals!" he roared sweeping his hand across the great square. “Not only them however! They are in league with the Japanese and Indians! Foreign powers like vultures swoop closer in on the Motherland! And what do these liberals, democrats, and capitalists do? They help them!” cries of anger went up from the crowd

"These empty minded fools who believe in idealistic drams! They want to make China weak! Long have they desired the dismemberment of the Motherland! No I say! Ours will no longer be a nation subject to insult and humiliation. We have stood up. Our Revolution has won the sympathy and acclaim of the people of all countries. We have friends all over the world. The era in which the Chinese people were regarded as uncivilized has now ended. We shall emerge in the world as a nation with an advanced culture. We shall be strong and feared. Our work will be long and hard, our trials and travails many. Democracy has failed, capitalism has failed, and socialism is the way forward. Liberalism, democracy, and capitalism these are the scourges afflicting our great nation! The cancer of our society! They must be crushed! Destroy their homes, burn their belongings, strike them down wherever they stand!" he shouted, “Our military will be greater than ever before! Our war machine shall be unstoppable, invincible! China shall be mighty and no one will dare threthan us and attack us ever again!

"And we shall triumph! And we shall conquer! The time of our rise is neigh today is the day for a new China a greater China than has ever existed before!" he lifted his hands high into the air and for one shining moment of glory the people say his vision rear up before them in all its majesty.
“This centaury will be a Chinese centaury!
The response was overwhelming. The crows roared swelling like a wave. Every man there felt his heart fill with national pride. People stamped and screamed, women and men wept.

The Chinese dragon had arisen. And the entire world would tremble.

Well, I'm Vietnamese, so I dont really have any claim to this whatsoever, I just like France. alot. ;)

This NES looks fun, I'm thinking of joining, which nations would you recommend?

Slavia is strong and Brazil can (if used correctly) give Mexico an @$$ whoopin'. Ethier of these two I'd recommend. Or even Paraguay as it has lots of potential. It would be harder than the other two but it can get up there.

Stats have been started and each nation will have a new background...

...and they're done. Have fun!

Give me a name for the separate story line.

"Collaborator".

A certain man by the name of Shicklegruber.

-1 respect point for silver, then. Honestly, if you like him so much why do you repeat the propaganda of his enemies? Unless, ofcourse, you're talking about Alois. ;)
