Hi,

I wonder, why there isn't any hellish sea terrain? Like "Tar Sea", or "Burning Sea" (or Burning-Tar Sea :p )

because Kael has stated that it looks odd to have blue clear rivers feeding into a burning sea.

and rivers can't be changed because the engine doesn't let the game identify to different river textures

Hell sea/ocean still needs to be visually different, for practical reasons.
What about dots or stains on the water? That could probably be done without too many problems at the borders with normal water?

Only (colourly) black sea (and some little bubbles on it), and it will seem like tar-sea i think.

i think there will not any problems at border; look at Coast - Ocean borders, it sould be same?

FF already adds different versions for the sea in Hell, albeit they only differ in that they are a shade darker. If you pay attention you can notice that the edges of the hell water looks like it meets a coastline when it meets non hell water. It isn't that obvious, but it is definitely there.

I like the suggestion for hell-water to have little dark bubbles in it. That would remove the problem of hell-water having sharp borders with regular water while not causing any problem with rivers.

same thing should be done for tundra, ice... basically for each terrain imho, otherwise you kinda have no way to know if it's hell or not.

Yep. Controlling (eliminating) hell terrain on water heavy maps is impossible.

Can tundra become hell? That always confused me because when other terrain becomes hell, any forests/jungles on the tile disappear, but forest on tundra doesn't.

some terrains do not have a hell equivalent, so they always remain the same. they actually ARE hell terrain, but the graphics don't show it. those are peaks, water, tundra, ice and marshes IIRC.

I still think that Glory Everlasting should reset all plot counters to 0, thus giving you a one time chance to get rid of hell, which would of course return and be harder to eliminate is the Infernals are in the game or there are Entropy nodes to flare.

It could also be cool to add another Ritual at Malevolent Designs, which would increase the plot counter of every tile in the world by whatever the current AC is.

I was expecting to see "in my version" instead of "I still think that" :P

In the meantime, there should still be duplicates of each terrain with a different name, even if the graphics are still the same. That would help.

You expect me to mouse over all those 150 tiles to see which I missed (are still hell)? Really even if you beat Hyborem to pulp, at AC 100, you cannot get rid of hell terrain unless you can see where it is hell and where it is not.

The team might not like it (yet?). But:

That sounds such a good idea for a usermod in any respect.

For those people getting a high AC regularly it would be a real improvement for managing hell. So the demand is sure to exist.

So if you want to convince Kael, better start doing it yourselves, refining it and showcasing it to the community. If you get it solved in a good way, the team might like it and include it in short order.
I doubt the team wouldn't take it if it turns out in a terrific way and people like it (which i very much think is possible.)

So the result whould likely be: You get what you wish for, it has allready been done a few times, it might help you and quite a number of other users and it saves the teams time. In the end your work might even make it into the game.
Everyone happy? (I don't mod myself but i sure would happily test anything in that regard but an ugly implementation, and it hardly sounds like something which would be hard to update to a new version.)

Take a peek around for those attempts already ventured and see what you can get done (i believe someone even has tried it in the FFH2 modmods&scenarioes subforum.).

(every "you" in this post can of course be substituted by a friendly modder you can convince of doing it. So please don't take it all to much as a personal demand. ;))

Rest assured, the audience does exist...

From a lore standpoint: Read the civelopedia-entry for spectes and wraiths to get the picture of how the oceans of hell look like and what they feature... (very placid, pitch black and reflecting stars not of creation.
If i remember rightly that is... So bubbles, blood red, slimy green or the likes are not in line with what the background suggests.
So not spectacular, but distinct enough to be very visible if properly implemented.
Personally i would very much like if such an endeavor would be conducted in accordance with the lore. ;))

If a practical solution is found, the lore can be adapted, really. :mischief:
It's not like hell's ocean's color is an essential part of it...

1: "I want bubbling red oceans of boiling blood."
2: "But hell oceans are just black water with nasty side effects."
1: "Then we'll make hell oceans like I want them to be. Lets change the lore."

The assumption is that person 1 is a fanboy and not a member of design team, of course.

This is a graphics issue, not a broken game mechanic. But somehow, changing the lore seems to be the answer to everything. Besides, a black static ocean should not hurt performance as bad as MOAR FIRES! Do you think your pc could handle not only Sahara burning but Pacific Ocean as well?

No need to be offensive.

There is a broken mechanic: as soon as it reaches the sea, there's no way to know where hell is anymore.
I remember Kael ranking priorities as something like this:
1 - Fun
2 - Mechanic
3 - Flavor

So if having black hell ocean is graphically a problem, we have to find another way. I don't care if it's red, bubbly or anything: hell's ocean's color is never going to make the game more "fun".
So what I want (and what I try to give ideas for) is a mechanic that works.
