Although civ7 has a new military commander, it is still a hard job for me to control the movement of units when you have a large number of units.😵‍💫
I think we can set up a unit assembly point for the city like Age of Empires II. Or use the mouse box to select some units so that they can move together.
What do you think? :)

I don't think we want to override the existing mechanics of the Leaders, as to moving units in groups. But, I believe previous Civs had a type of 'rally point' that could be specified on the map for units to automatically move to and congregate at. Combine that with the Leader so that the units automatically 'join' the Leader army at that point, and a lot of the 'movement to contact' could be basically automated in the game.

If you don't have enough Leaders, it should be harder to move your units - that's what they are primarily for, after all.

I agree with you that military leaders are undoubtedly a great and convenient improvement. However, I still think that unit control needs to be more convenient. Maybe military leaders can link up with soldiers in his range and move together? (skill or mechanism update? ) In the current civ7, when we enter the next round, the unit movement can also be carried out at the same time.

I used translation software, and there may be mistakes in my expression. Thank you for your discussion.😊

Heh, remember Civ4 and before with 10x the units and no commanders? :p

I've always wondered why Civilisation has no bulk move options. All strategy games have this, and I don't think you necessarily need commanders to pack and unpack if you want to move groups.

You should ideally be able to square select and then move the group across the map to a desired location in any formation you like.

In 4 there is a button to select all units on the tile, and another button to select all units of the same type on the same tile. This makes unit management in 4 a breeze even with a stack of 40+ units.

Civs 1-4 had tonns of units due to stacking, so group controls totally make sense. With 1UpT, even with commanders - not so many. I can't say lack of unit automation somehow restraining me in Civ7. There are tonns of other things to improve in UI before this.

Yes, in fact, it is not the game mechanism or the almost unchanging game process that hinders me from the next round of civ7, but the constant production and then moving units in the war.

I think they should rework the Initiative promotion and just give it to all commanders. They're no fun to use when you have to worry about the downsides of packing/unpacking, but once they have Initiative they're amazing.

And then otherwise, the logistics tree allows for quick reinforcement, which cuts back on a lot of overland movement.

I understand the reasoning, but I'd also like to point out that even the briefest reading of real military history will reveal a multitude of inept Army Leaders and Commanders who blundered into the enemy more often than not, tried to deploy under fire and utterly failed, and basically committed all the failures that the Civ VII Leaders allow you to recreate.

And you can also recreate the solutions to those blunders, which include not only gaining the Initiative, but also putting a unit or Scout in front of the army (let's call them an Advanced Guard, why don't we?) to give warning before you blunder into the enemy instead of afterwards. . .
