New things can bring the longevity of a game to a height not for seen. Some of these ideas will play on other ideas I have had in other threads that I've started. To keep the thread "short" I will only discuss new policy card, religious beliefs, tech, buildings and unit ideas. I will make another thread for other ideas that can be used for future DLC, games and or mods.
New Civics could be introduced or the current ones can be expanded on to incorporate new policy cards, units, improvements, buildings and districts.

Policy cards and religious beliefs are similar so I'll keep them together to keep this a bit shorter. Some new abilities I have thought of are a set of policy cards and religious beliefs that reduce the harmful effects of certain storms depending of which one you pick and as the policy card improve in the late game maybe they start to improve and add to the bonus yields produced by storms. I think a few more combat strength policy cards and maybe even some more beliefs for military victory goers could go a long way. In the future era I think a new set of policy card could be implemented. Future policy cards could have a unique cost to use but provide amazing benefits perhaps they could cost power, gold and other resources to use them but they give unique bonus like suzerain and or civilization ability. Other things they could do is power up units or cites and their districts by providing an awesome bonus in yields or combat strength for some cost in player resources. The bonus should feel and be better then cost of the policy card. I also think a lot of the policy cards and religious beliefs in the game now should be looked at to be changed and or expanded to make new ones. Religious beliefs should be greatly expanded on as well. It's upsetting that I need to install mods to get a better feeling for religious games and even for regular games. I suggest adding a ton of new religions and custom religious icons as well as a plethora of new religious beliefs things that help with every type of victory even ones that give unique bonus there needs to be a lot because I personal do not think the limit on religions is right, I think all civilizations should be allowed to go for their own religion so if everyone can make a religion there needs to be enough beliefs for at least 12 civilizations. Religious beliefs shouldn't disappear once another civilization picks it there should be a good verity so that religions might share some beliefs but not all of them. I could go on and on about new policy cards and beliefs the main thing is when your coming up with cool abilities for anything and that ability gets canned you should ask if it could be used as a new policy, belief, or even a upgrade. Also ask how can policies and or beliefs be used to help in the short term and the long run of the ideas your working on.

The current tech tree feels lack luster to put it gently but perhaps, it's not just the tech trees fault of course it is also the lack of unique units for civilizations and late game units. The Tech tree should be expanded on in the future era immensely and eras earlier should be also examined and added to. The civic tree may also need to be edited to match the tech tree.

New buildings, districts and improvements are also important. Some ideas I've seen and had are Landfills (district), recycle plant, battery storage and transfer plants, hospitals, police stations, fire stations, pollution cleaning centers, deep sea fisheries, deep sea oil and natural gas rigs, natural gas pumps, magma plants, mountain mines, deep sea mines, chemical mines, storm resistants projects, railgun fortification, advanced railgun fortification, and Satellites. Landfills could be a new districts used to fight pollution and help keep your empire healthy and happy. They could also be required to make other buildings like recycle plants and pollution cleaning centers. The landfill could have a unique unit like garbage collectors. Recycle plants could be a production and power building using resources that you aren't using. Could be build in the industrial district. Battery storage and transfer plants is a mod that I started to use because I feel like the game is lacking in some departments. The mod adds buildings that collect power to store that isn't being used and another building that is used to transfer power to other cities I think something like this is sorely missed in the game. Hospitals should be in the game to keep your cities happy and healthy. They could be built in the city or have a new district for healthcare and have a few new healthcare center buildings. There could also be a unique improvement given by city state, policy, belief, or civ ability lets lets you build a unique hospital building and or improvement. Police stations should be add to help keep the peace they could be build in city and they could perhaps lower enemy spy levels. With the addition of police stations courthouses, jail houses, mail houses, and fire stations should be added as well to cites they could help with loyalty, spies, storm damage and maybe other things. A spy agency building not tied to your government district perhaps a building could be built in encampments and is required to build a new unit and lowers the effectiveness of enemy spies in its lands. Deep sea fisheries as well as other deep sea improvements like oil, chemical, and natural gas drills even offshore and deep sea geothermal plants should be added. Natural gases and chemicals should be added as strategic resources so new tile improvements would be added for these resources. Magma plants are future super building that are built into volcanoes to harvest its geothermal energies for power and production. Magma plants neuter volcanoes like dams do to rivers. Mountain mines could be a good addition. It would be a improvement to a mountain to get better production and gold yields. Mountain houses should also be add with mountain mines you give you housing, food, faith, culture and tourism. Cites at a certain point should be able to run projects for themselves and their districts to protect them from most storms. Rail guns should have been added but whatever lets do it later. So rail guns should be a late game power weapon used to take out virtually every thing. There are two of them a normal one and an advanced one both do insane damage and have crazy range being able to shoot satellites down and or destroy them entirely. They require a ton of power and have low health. They are like fortifications like missile silos and they are built by military engineers. Stationary SAM sites could also be added. Satellites are another thing I am pushing for. Satellites I think will sit in a unique middle ground. Some will act as buildings, tile enhancement tools, and for city and world projects but others will act more like units being able to move a bit more freely as well as attack and pillage other objects in "space". Most satellites will be for recon, yield improvements for tiles they are over, power stations, culture, tourism, gold, science, and faith gains. I can also see them being required for cities to perform projects. So these projects could also be linked to the science victory. A project idea could be capturing asteroids for scientific advancement. You could use them in different ways like using it to make a moon, make a ship or base out of it, mine it for resources or use it as a weapon. The last satellite can move slowly, attack other satellites and drops rods of armageddon on to the earth below it. It has a small number of rods before it needs to be restocked. The attack satellite is week and easy to kill. A super satellite could also be neat you could be required to capture a large enough asteroid and then you make a death star like satellite that could be new end all be all.

New units will also help the flesh out the game. I think units start to lack around the industrial and later eras. Some unit ideas I've had IBMs, V2s, Chemical Bombs, World war infantry, Atomic infantry, mechanized machine gunners, herbalists/doctors, garbage collectors, mechanized future helicopters, mechanized future armors, future AT crews, Xcom squads, future destroyer, warships, nuclear aircraft carrier, future fighter, future bombers, future SAMs, next gen drones, massive saucer of death, a amphibious railgun sub/boat, and field agents. I think much more can be added as unique units to civilization I think every civ could have 2 to 3 unique units. It would also be nice if there was a option in cities to view and make older units. So the lack of IBMs and chemical missiles is odd, I think having options that let you bomb things from a far without it being a nuke will be good. Doing this you could add chemical fallout to the game. Herbalist and doctors can be add to the game they can be used to make cities healthier and could be used to fight diseases if the become a part of the main game. Xcom squads could be the bees knees of the end game normal units. It should be unique so its upgrade tree should be as so its upgrade paths could resemble cybernetic, psionic, and genetic enchantments perhaps as they get up grades they start to look different. The massive saucer of death is a super unit like the GDR but is flying. It upgrades with tech tree like the GDR. It carries aircraft with it. Can only attack units and tiles under it with its magnifying glass weapon that focuses the sun. It's like a massive flying donuts that floats over the map that can burn away just about anything under it. The amphibious railgun sub/boat is another super unit like the GDR. It also upgrades as you get new tech. It using the rail guns so it can shoot satellites down. It counters the MSD but GDR counters the amphibious railgun sub/boat. They all can kill each other. They just have different advantages that will make it bit easier for one to fight the other. Field agents are an idea I had to help expand the role of spies. Field agents will be able to move around the map freely. They lower the effectiveness of enemy units and lower the yields tiles they stand on. They can help with counter spying as well as help with spying by standing on tiles that are the target of spying.
Spies role should be expanded on and with more additions to the game means more things for the spy to sabotage, steal, and hack.
What are improvements and additions you would like to see add to the game? Do you think my ideas would make the game better or worse? Don't forget to have a nice day, I'm going to go play test some more and wish some of my ideas were put into the game with the last DLC.

New districts:
Castles (Moat, Curtain wall and Watchtower).
Center for Advanced Research (Center for Robotics, Nanotechnology Laboratory and Institute for Space Research).
Spy agency (one per civilization).

New buildings:
City Center: Hospital, Police Station, Recycling center.
Industrial Zone: Biomass Plant, Steelworks.
Entertainment Complex: Circus.
Theater: Movie theater, War Museum.
Campus: Palentological Museum.

I thought about the possibility of third expansion, so most of these buildings would give bonuses related to new mechanics such as health, crime reduction, prehistoric fossils, museums for war artifacts, more increases in the future era...

I want Secularism/Non-Religiousness to be a thing that arises in the Reinassance/Industrial/Modern/Information age and grows in the Modern era to counter the religions outright. Probably after Publishing or Scientific Theory. As it is, it just seems religions go on forever until they grow stagnant. Get what I mean?

I think by expanding the religions you'll get that feeling a bit more. Perhaps new religion units without a religious affiliation could be added for religious combat that are just good at killing religious units.

So my idea is to make the game as little as possible about conquering for points. I would have alien visits and global situations like aliens saying "no we won't give you more technology" or "we won't meet with you yet" I'd maybe even throw in Psychic LSD/DMT lab research to channel alien entities. And i would have decisions to go a long way like there are some very bad reptilian overlords already inflitrated in our society from the beginning. I would have them desperately trying to control the masses meanwhile good aliens would help. I would have aliens turn off all nuclear missles just as someone is about to shoot one. I would make this game from 5-10 hours into days of gameplay. Just make a lot of decisions and effects like CO2 emissions, overpopulation... all these kinds of issues that would make players want to create a good civilization and communicate with other good entities from other planets.
Whenever you conquer a city i would show sad citisens crying about their loved ones and have possibility to steer culture into your civ or let them keep their heritage, burn their books or not, take down their monument or actually erect a monument of their famous people.
I would add a ton and i mean really a ton of new art, i would lose the slots for great works and just have a lot of them, like it doesn't even need to be visualized i would just keep it going and it would make people happy. Some kind of culture meter, are they bored. I would definitely lose the sad little arsenal as an option after lets say the year 2000. But i would keep going and going and pretty much implement the Civ> Beyond Earth into a regular game. Like you could literally save your game and play on the next day and the next day... I would even implement some sort of Mass Effect type of research gathering and a randomly generated universe every time i mean this game could really be something endless. Awesome would be then to be able to trade with people with similar gametime than you that is made to be on a parallel universe. This could be a multiplayer aspect of the game, like technology to travel between parallel worlds or universes. You could go all wrong and arrange a meet with your exact selves and you could have like a possibility to now play god and create your own universe and i dunno at the same time i would connect this game to all kinds of other games like at some point you could go to your city and play it like GTA, GTA could expand similar way to have sort of like careers and design your casino sort of games implemented. Anyway this is what i would do if i was in the creators seat. I hope someone takes this adivice at least about the Civ game. I mean it isn't that difficult to imagine this working, right? :)

I want the idea of State & Non-State Religions to return-along with Social Policies to represent various levels of tolerance towards non-state religions, even to the point of having no formal State Religion in your own Civilization (as a post Enlightenment Civic Option).

By the same token, I want a variety of peaceful-& not so peaceful-means to prevent the spread of other religions through my own Empire (or, on the flip-side, peaceful & not so peaceful means to allow other religions to spread *faster* in your Empire).
