As an adjunct to the ongoing ideology renaming discussion, interest was expressed in making a poll so people could quickly and anonymously express their opinion on the matter of renaming the ideology branch(es)

I think we should stick to what Firaxis tried to do, which was to represent the historical actions of visible groups of people. I'm super salty that Soviet communism is often associated with actual communism, but I think it'd be appropriate to follow Soviet flavoured naming scheme, since that's what actually happened in real-life.

Freedom is a little loaded. I'd like Liberty better but it's already a policy name. I'm not so against Freedom that I'd want to change it.

I think Order is fine in that the point of the struggle was to eliminate the egregious disparity of wealth in society.

I'm of the opinion that Autocracy should be changed. I'd like Dominance, but that is also a policy name...

I actually like that suggestion, but I'd use Democracy instead of Plutocracy.

Democracy/Bureaucracy/Autocracy has a nice ring to it.

I'm more interested in consistency in this regard. As others have stated, Freedom/Order/AUTOCRACY puts us in a situation where one branch doesn't match with the naming theme of the other two. So either Autocracy needs to change to be something more generic (like Dominance or Might) or the other two need to match better with Autocracy (Freedom > Democracy; Order > Bureaucracy). Personally, I'd rather keep things as generic as possible and go Autocracy > Dominance, but that would require renaming the currently existing "Dominance" policy to something else.

Poll should have less choices now.

Why? It's pretty clear, as are the results. But in hindsight, I think it should have had more. The "Change Autocracy to..." should be three separate ones. All three are painfully generic, but that's a separate conversation.

I get the argument that Autocracy is the name of a type of governance and not an ideology per-se. Something like Greatness or Pride makes a lot more sense. But I also think there's a lot to be said for the continuity of keeping it the same as the base game.

Social policies are changed, ideologies most definitely should be too. Liberalism, Fascism and Communism would absolutely be the best, as Im sure gazebo would understand

Or atleast change Freedom and Order

Two problems with this:

a.) changing one thing does not mean another should be changed
b.) I have already expressed my own strong reluctance to change any of this. You are (incorrectly) attributing an opinion to me that I don't agree with.

Nah you should be for it for the sake of coherance, it would make sense in the same way the Policies changes do. Its pretty hokey

The policy renames were due to the trees having sweeping changes in function. I may not feel right calling Aesthitics Artistry but I can guarantee that the Featly tree is NOT Piety anymore and that Statecraft is a different beast that Patronage.

Also a G pointed out you should never express an opinion on behalf of someone else. If they agree with your statement they'll do so themselves.

Anyway it all seems a moot point now anyway since the poll clearly demonstrates a majority in favor of leaving things as they are.

A supermajority if you count "I don't care" votes as leave as is. Why would you change anything if people don't care, after all?

Yeah as it usually happens in democracies, our "consensus" in the other thread was that of a vocal minority. Let's move on.
