Pontiuth Pilate
Republican Jesus!
Oh, I thought you meant splitting into two countries according to voting patterns, with current economic conditions.
Of course in that case it's a nobrainer; the cities are the engines of this country and they vote overwhelmingly Democratic. And, at a rough guess I'd say 60-80% of GDP is generated in blue states. Just NY and CA alone would make a great nation - and don't think CA doesn't have the farming capacity to feed itself. NY would have to import, though.
Like desegregation?
Which are the first states to recover from economic hardship? Which states are gaining jobs fastest? A corollary to that, which are gaining jobs fastest relative to population growth?
If the Reds don't rank high in those questions, then all they are gaining is welfare recipients.
Heck, I'm not even counting the fact that the folks with higher education live and work in cities - therefore in the new Blue country.
You're way off, the split in the legislature is 66/33 and voting margins are similar - for example see our last Senatorial race. California is getting more Republican though.

Democrats(mostly) are the ones that distrust the military and view it chiefly as a testing ground for social experiments

Check the census numbers, people. Which states are gaining, and which states are losing population? There's your answer, people.

Incidentally, California nearly has a 50/50 party split. It just doesn't appear that way because liberals have big mouths
