"If you can't beat 'em, join 'em"

Who's the cowardly quitter who came up with that phrase?
Obviously, not the brave soul that thought of:
"If you can't convince them, confuse them" ;)

"If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" , very sensible words, its almost a mantra that I live on. Don't call it cowardly unless you have faced a situation where you are forced to recant your words/ideas on pain of death or punishment. Observe how strong your conviction lies then.

A bit off-topic: What is your avatar about, Narz? :)
It's my pussycat looking deeply into my crystal lamp (actually I just placed her there but it's a nice effect :)).

I imagine my conviction would still remain strong though I would certainly lie to save my life (though I might lose my life to save loved ones).

In actual usage, it normally applies to a situation where others are doing something bad/unethical, and profiting from it, and you cannot stop them. The idea being that, if you cannot prevent them from doing it, you may as well, too, and also gain the profit.

Ever thought that it may be a smart move? Join them and take them down from within.
That would only be psuedo-joining. Sounds like a good plan though. Kind of like what the Trojans did. :D

Right, in matters that have nothing to do with morality it's probably a good choice.
