Yeah, I am trying to look at this on theological grounds - as someone who agrees that sex outside of marriage is a sin. And even then, it makes no sense.
I don't see the purpose of calling yourself something you're not.
Anyone who has been an alcoholic will say that they were once an alcoholic, not that they've never had a drink.
Most I know say that they're an alcoholic and always will be.
Even those who haven't touched a drink in years? Because, for the purposes of this comparison, they are the ones most like the individuals in question here.

Yes. I think it also serves to keep them away from the bottle by still admitting that they are alcoholics.

Regardless, they certainly don't try to pass themselves off as teetotalers, which is a bit more the analogy I was going for.
Sorry, but no dice. Forgiveness, fine. Re-virginication? Um, no.
I can appreciate the idea of people wanting to improve their self-esteem and their personal behavior, but to call it "revirginification" or whatever is absurd.
You can also have had kids out of wedlock and be (currently) chaste.
The biggest problem is that there is a very real element of dishonesty. For any other sin, forgiveness will take away some of the consequences, but won't cause the act to not have happened. So it is lying to call yuorself a virgin if you are not. Plain and simple.
I understand the desire for purity. If I ever marry, I'd certainly like my bride to be a virgin on our wedding night. But pretending to be a virgin when you're not is dumb. Trying to get a "do-over" and pretend that something you did didn't happen is un-Christian and is a lie.Purity, I suppose. Certainly if there's a religious belief behind it, but even if there were not, it probably makes the person feel pure. For some, it can have value. Depends who you are and what you seek.
Anyway, this fad of "revirginization" seems really dumb to me. But don't let me spoil anyone's fun![]()
I like how you call it a "fad". Makes me think of hula hoops and spinner wheels. Revirginification? All the cool kids are doing it!
