I'm a 48yr old virgin-with 3 kids.

Most I know say that they're an alcoholic and always will be.

Even those who haven't touched a drink in years? Because, for the purposes of this comparison, they are the ones most like the individuals in question here.

Yeah I mean let's assume you consider it a sin. It is like saying not that I am a sinner who is trying to change but I have never committed a sin. Wow that makes me feel better I am God, I never swear, I am never selfish, I'm never lie (of course that is a lie).

Yes. I think it also serves to keep them away from the bottle by still admitting that they are alcoholics.

Well, then, I think the revirgins should follow their example.

Hm, I'll take your word for it.

My impression was that they still considered themselves to have a problem with alcohol even after not drinking for any length of time, but I didn't think they still called themselves alcoholics.

Regardless, they certainly don't try to pass themselves off as teetotalers, which is a bit more the analogy I was going for.

You can also have had kids out of wedlock and be (currently) chaste.

The biggest problem is that there is a very real element of dishonesty. For any other sin, forgiveness will take away some of the consequences, but won't cause the act to not have happened. So it is lying to call yuorself a virgin if you are not. Plain and simple.

I'm Downtown, and I approve of this message.

That woman has got to be one of the dumbest.

She's still married to the guy she lost her virginity to. Who gives a flying frag grenade if she lost it before marriage?

Ugh, I'm going to go cry now.

Purity, I suppose. Certainly if there's a religious belief behind it, but even if there were not, it probably makes the person feel pure. For some, it can have value. Depends who you are and what you seek.
I understand the desire for purity. If I ever marry, I'd certainly like my bride to be a virgin on our wedding night. But pretending to be a virgin when you're not is dumb. Trying to get a "do-over" and pretend that something you did didn't happen is un-Christian and is a lie.

And I don't get the obsession about an intact hymen, either. I do care about virginity - less than chastity, as Eran has mentioned - but some. But in a moral and spiritual way. What her beliefs are, and what she's done are important to me - whether or not she has a little bit of skin in a certain place strikes me as utterly irrelevant and absurd.

Anyway, this fad of "revirginization" seems really dumb to me. But don't let me spoil anyone's fun ;)

EDIT: On the alcoholic comparison....I can say that I was an alcoholic, but am no more, in the same way that I can say I was sexually promiscuous, and am no longer. (Neither is true, by the way ;) ) That's legitimate. But it's lying, to yourself and others to say that you are a virgin - which by definition, means you haven't had sex - when you aren't. That's on par with a former alcoholic saying he's never drunk alcohol, because he's not an alcoholic anymore. That's ridiculous. What you are and what you've done are very different. You can change what you are, and should if you think you need to. You can't change what you've done. You can ask forgivenes for it, or not do it again, but you can't make it not. That's ridiculous.

I like how you call it a "fad". Makes me think of hula hoops and spinner wheels. Revirginification? All the cool kids are doing it!

"Hey Cindy, want to do some hoola hoops with me?"
"Not today, I'm still a little sore after the revirginization. We can go to the mall and try on bell bottom pants, though!"

It sounds like a cop-out to be honest. "Oh no I had that fling with that hot girl last night! DON'T WORRY! I'll just pray my virginity back!"

It's not the same and when you lose it, you lose it. That's it.

meh I spent so long trying to get rid of it why would anyone want it back? Being a 48 year old virgin even if it is fake isn't sexy or cool, its just weird and awkward.

I guess it could be cool though being a virgin with a kid. last time that happened they made a freaking religion out of it:lol:
