I'm disapointed

There's no reason a 4x game couldn't have unit movement work exactly like Baldur's Gate 3.
TBH the less inspiration anything takes from DnD the better.

Every iteration of Civ is experimental in some way. And every iteration have people disappointed with changes. It's totally ok. People who disliked the game initially could like it later and vice versa, no problems here.

For me it's funny, because I was a bit worried about changes in Civ 4 and 5, but they turned out to be great. Civ 6 looked like straight improvement to me, but in the end I found Civ 5 to be often more enjoyable. So now I'm just curious to see how this look in real game. I have my worries, but also have my hopes.

Did we really all wait nearly a decade for Firaxis to rehash a contentious gimmick mechanic from a game that no one actually liked, which struggles to pull a thousand players only three years after its release?

Speaking of mods, if civ7 is relatively close to civ6 moddability, picking a civ and lead it from start to finish will surely be one of the first out there.
I‘m not so sure about this, if it would be that easy, without any problems, but even when… it doesn‘t matter, cause it‘s not the only thing for me.

But it‘s as someone stated here: Older players go, new players come.
But as i said, at some point i will surely play the game.

Yep! And as i said earlier today: Can someone please wake me up? I don‘t like it and hope i‘m just dreaming.

what you're describing with open world would basically also get rid of turn-based strategy. An open world civ would be a real-time strategy. "one more turn" wouldn't make sense anymore as the catchphrase for the series.
It's been half of Total War's appeal for over a decade (The other half being real time battles). You can play a campaign without ever doing battles, and many do.

I'm thinking the people who have been "waiting a decade" is closer to being a population of one than to being "all".

I don't like the way Firaxis is taking it's lead sort of from Humankind. Not a fan of that game and Amplitude. That said, Firaxis and Civ have a way of making things work. We'll see what happens, but I'm optimistic.

It sort of reminds me how they dropped Civ BE during the middle of Civ V's Rein lol.

Yeah, but this time they deviated too far for me.
I've been playing Civ for over 25 years.
Nothing lasts forever.

Yes, I will buy the game and play it a whole bunch.

But... I was kinda hoping they would move away from hexagons and go into the open world direction with the game. Make a new leap into the 4x turn based genere, and show everybody else who is the big dog in the house. I understand that hex tiles make it somewhat easy to control the map but I feel like next big step is making civ 4x games is doing it without hexagons.

Anyway, thats kinda disapointing because the 7 is now just a fancy update to 6.

oh ye... and the any ruler... for any civ... and then new civ every age... I don't know. Kinda breaks the immersion a bit here? Don't you think?
Honestly, I was hoping they were going to go back to Stack Attacks and Slavery with the Whip Mechanic lol.
I was dreaming and they woke me up yesterday.
Good Dream though.

Why is everyone is upset? Of course it was going to be another DLC platform and that seems to be the standard business plan nowdays. People are going to buy it, the cycle continues. That I don't understand is why those who could find 6 enjoyable are disappointed by 7.

6 took me 2 years to get comfortable with, but when I did, it was addictive. I think 7 will be fine, but the idea of taking some lead from a second rate 4X game feels like a quasi betrayal to many Civ fanatics.

Maybe because Civ 6 is a Civ game and Civ 7 is something else that I don't even recognize as a Civ game.
I'm not upset.
I'm just disappointed.
