Immaculate NES Five: Blood From A Stone

From: United Corporatist Commonwealth of Russia
To: International Community
CC: Korea, Manchuria, Those Whom It May Concern

The Board of Directors has, after much deliberation, determined that the situation of warfare between Korea and Manchuria is detrimental to commerce, to the peace of nations, and to the flow of resources to Manchuria from external markets, and from Manchuria to our own markets. Therefore, the Board has determined that it is in the interests of the shareholders to render this situation concluded and resolved. With the fate of our pocketbooks placed now in our hands, we look to the almighty free market to judge us fairly as we issue our declaration of war against Manchuria. As the Manchurian government is in violation of the needs of the shareholders, and therefore the whim of the market, we will act quickly and efficiently.

We encourage the oppressed people of Russian Manchuria to rise up and reclaim their rightful place within the Motherland. The United Commonwealth welcomes its brothers back into the fold. As the United Commonwealth is an equal opportunity employer, we encourage all Manchurians to pray to the deity of their choice for mercy on their eternal souls.

The coming conflagration will consume the enemies of the shareholders/enjoy your warzone holiday!

Russia, your reasoning is cute but very naive and full of hubris.

We feel that Russian Government is invading unjustly and without any valid reason. So the Manchurian People were dragged into a war for unjust reason.

Parties Mobilize For Elections
Liangan Wanbao, 11/06/2104

Both the ruling New KMT, as well as local activists, are gearing up for next year's elections for magistrates in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, as well as for the national elections scheduled on the same day for representatives to the Legislative Yuan. The elections seem to mark a turning point, denoting the end of the turbulence of the last few decades and promising the return to a brighter future.

Central to the ruling party's strategy is its slate of legislative candidates, many of whom previously served as interim magistrates during the Transitional Period, and are running on a record of sustained economic growth. Chinese nominal GDP has posted an astounding annual growth rate of 12.5% since 2099, numbers not seen since the height of the Expansion era nearly 150 years ago. Along with this strategy has been the relentless promotion of the story of 82-year-old Ma Ming of Xinbei, one of the few left who voted in the previous Republic of China election in 2146. The resumption of elections and an end to Emergency Rule have been promoted as a sign of increased government confidence, and a return to stability in the ROC.

The strategy of the 'opposition,' however, remains unclear. Many democratic activists have rallied behind the New KMT and its ambitious programme for economic growth; however, opinion remains divided, especially among those objecting to what they term ROC 'imperialism' in Jiangnan. Advocating substantial cuts in military spending, they advocate a policy of 'splendid isolation' not unlike that currently pursued by Japan. These anti-imperialists have found allies among the environmentalist movement, which advocates strict population controls and a return to subsistence agriculture as the dominant economic model. While both the ruling KMT and moderates have criticized the proposals as "reactionary and totally unworkable", the movement enjoys some support in the cities of southern Taiwan.

Post-Declaration Press Conference, Moscow

<Loudspeaker> The Chief Military Officer will now take questions from the press.

<Reporter> Mr. Gekko, can you explain the Board's reasons for war against Manchuria?

<Vladimir Gekko> Ladies and gentlemen, the reasons for war with Manchuria are as bright and clear as the sun that pierces through the fog of Novgorod's industrial district every morning. Manchuria is a destabilizing influence within the region, and destabilization effects the ability of the shareholders to make the profits necessary to drive the industrial, economic and military engine of this great nation. We are merely intervening to ensure that the economic situation within east Asia is no longer negatively influenced by the ongoing violence within Manchuria. I can assure you all that an equitable solution will be reached, with minimal casualties on our side. You, in the back.

<Reporter> Can you respond to accusations by foreign press outlets that the military policy of the Board is unnecessarily aggressive, slipshod, and dirty?

greedisgood.jpg

<Vladimir Gekko> You'd be surprised how many times I'm asked a question like that. Look, efficiency in theory is very different from efficiency in practice. Other nations that maintain modern, standing armies act on a principal of efficiency, and so do we. But they act on the efficiency of theory, and when you put soldiers on the battlefield, the rules change. The American military giant, Sherman, who put down the Confederacy, knew this well. He was one of the first to recognize that in the modern world, the military resolve of nations rests with the morale and resolve of the civilian populace. If I had to sum up our position, I would say: why do we have to wreck Manchuria? Because it's wreckable, alright? Next question.

<Reporter> Your critics among the liberal movement believe you are operating on old-fashioned, outdated principles. Any response?

gordon-gekko.jpg

<Vladimir Gekko> I think the liberal movement has been removed too far from the center of cold, harsh reality in the post-Troubles world. We do not live in gentle times, and must be prepared to act quickly, drastically, and without hesitation when the situation calls for it. And what can I say, I like green screens. You, there.

<Reporter> Can you clarify the Board's position on the Polish rebellion in Germany?

<Vladimir Gekko> The position of ahem, previous, governments of this nation notwithstanding, the lands claimed by the Polish dissidents are rightfully German. As friends to the German people and the German nation, who I will readily admit we rely on for a certain amount of profit, we cannot in good conscience support the Polish rebellion. The Board would appreciate if the Poles would hurry up and get back under the German boot as soon as humanly possible.

<Reporter> What, in your belief, is the driving force behind the need for a standing military when so many criticize our large armed forces as being a drag on the already sparse resources of our nation?

<Vladimir Gekko> When the world around you is so fixated on blowing things up, and making people disappear, you better be ready to blow things up and make people disappear a thousand times better than anyone else can. By maintaining, judiciously utilizing, a powerful army, we ensure the safety of our position internationally. Almost time to wrap up here, people. Two more.

<Reporter> Mr. Gekko, how do you feel our military shapes up in comparison to that of our neighbors?

<Vladimir Gekko> We get -- excuse me, I have to take this.

gordon_gekko.jpg

<Vladimir Gekko> Send in the bombers. Apologies, ladies and gentlemen, it's time for closing remarks. One last question, to send us off on a good note.

<Reporter> Any words for the soldiers currently being deployed under your command, should they be able to hear them?

<Vladimir Gekko> Give them hell. That's a wrap, now get back to work.

"Give them hell."

TO: Russia
FROM: Republic of China Foreign Ministry

The Republic of China is a nonbelligerent in the current conflict in the Heilong Jiang basin. However, given the ROC's ties to FEDCO, we intend to send observers to monitor this conflict.

As such, we seek assurances from Russia that its conflict is with Manchuria alone, and that the rights of neutral powers will continue to be respected.

From: United Corporatist Commonwealth of Russia
To: Republic of China

The Corporatist Commonwealth welcomes observance from the Republic of China. The Commonwealth seeks only to reestablish the order of commerce and prosperity in Manchuria, so as to ensure that all nations that benefit from east Asian trade may not be impeded by the existing conflict within the Manchurian nation. In this, we act not against, but for the interests of all parties involved or otherwise. We trust that you will find the solution reached, once this war is ended, equitable and fair for and to all parties.

As the times improve, the Earth seems to be working with us again. However, we must take note that the good times might not last forever. Now is not a time to celebrate, but a time to prepare. We must all remember our lessons about the days of old, when people did not prepare. Their irresponsibility is the direct cause of our generations predicament. If we do not learn from their mistakes, then we are bound to repeat them.

Our job is now to build a sustainable future. As we seek to rebuild our economy, we must take note that we must ensure it's self contained. We must not steal from the Earth, like we did in the days of old, for Mother Nature has a wrath mightier then that of Hades. This does not mean that there is not hope. Opportunity lurks at every corner. Success is hidden in every failure. Every mistake can lead to discovery. Remember these proverbs, and live by them, and Iberia can be mighty once again.

Immac, if this is alive can you please say something? Even if it's dead could you please declare it so for the sake of closure?

I've sort of lost interest for the time being.

I would like to come back to this in the future but i think i need a break from NESing for now. I really like the NES and its fairly easy to moderate compared to my other ones but right now focus and interest are pretty much completely lacking.

Sorry for not saying so earlier.
