It has been a long long time since I've played some Civ, so thought let's start it nice and easy. Immortal Gandhi with what appears to be a pretty good start.

However, given the years, I would appreciate the input of some of the experts here as I have forgotten some very major aspects of the game.


Warrior 1NW and then SIP seems like a good option to start with unless nw shows something unexpected.
The other thing to consider is settle 2N on the grass hill. Looking at the map, it looks like some river grassland this should be a very powerful Beauro capital.

Tech wise, it seems Agri->AH->BW seems a good start. But this is all provisional for now and may change as per the circumstances

I think warrior 1NE is better, putting him on a hill will reveal more tiles to the north and should get a better look at what's along the northern river. If you want to maybe move in that direction getting more info would be good.

Oops, my orientation is terrible. The plan was actually that aha but I said W by mistake instead of east. Thank you!
 
I'd move my warrior towards the equator (to maximize the chance of meeting an AI before T5), especially when agri is the first tech to research. I'd flip a coin between warrior SW/SE or even SIP first to gain some visibility. Maybe warrior SW and if it reveals nothing, settle SE has some merit though.
 
Yeah, no alternate target for settling here and warrior move won't do much to change decision. SIP here. Ag>AH>BW looks fine.

So I played until t15 and this looks like we have an isolated start so far unless it's a funky map layout which is possible with fractal. I was not anticipating this so I think my strategy will have to change moving forward from this.

I can't remember what the astronomy beeline involved anymore. Some pointers would be especially useful.

Plan for now-> Finish off AH. 7 turns left.

Future cities, would appreciate some tips. I see a few potential sites, but balancing maintenance costs vs a better city, especially in an isolation is tricky.

I would settle next city 1S of the western pigs. There may be a good spot to be aware of 3E or 3E1S of capital, but I’d start with expansion to help with fog busting.

In isolation, as you know normal goal is to get Optics / Astro quickly. 2xGS are required for Astro bulb, but a third (for academy) and a 4th for settling are easily achievable with a PHI leader.

Anything that’s not on that tech line needs to be considered carefully as to whether it’s helping. Common detours might be:
- aesthetics / lit - with marble, obvs not here
- monarchy - with no happy, not here as you will build pyramids
- code of laws - caste system for running scientists - yep would consider here especially with pyramids
- archery - for safety. Personal pref but I think you can do with warriors here

next priorities would be second city, then make island safe and be ready to start on pyramids turn 50 (when stone comes into borders). Pyramids are so good in isolation, and doubly so with Gandhi, so make sure to get them!

Exactly this. Before worrying about astro, I'd make sure to get Mids. Something like T65-70 should be enough? Anyway, capital border pop claims the stone in time. 1S of western pigs was my thinking, too, though 2S of pigs and 1N of pigs would claim all tiles immediately. Scout the gold coast area further, NE is not that interesting.
 
Make sure to scout east and west of Delhi, so you know where city 2 should go (and maybe share food with Delhi).
Pigs north are obv. nice but need more info (NW area could be filled with barbs soon). Still plenty time until that decision arrives.

Fast Worker micro: if AH isn't there yet after improving corn, you can put 1 or more turns into the green hill.

Wheel prolly after AH to avoid many idle worker turns before BW.
