Immortal University XVI - Hatshepsut

To 1670 AD
Spoiler :

This is easily my best showing in the immortal U series...interesting that it's come on normal speed.

I was thinking of bribing alex to war vs AC again but held off. I could easily protect myself from him now, but he was pleased with me and cautious with his target, which he chose w/o bribes a 2nd time:

I just took advantage of the opportunity to expand peacefully a bit more, filling in my final spots, chaining irrigation, and slowly teching away from them.

No records broken here on the lib win, but global rate was slow so I won it and took the blah tech choice:

I was expecting to get taj w/ marble but someone I hadn't met beat me to it...grrr.

Meeting the other continent I discovered that I was slightly backward (no trades of consequence will do that) but not bad, and everyone was way ahead of Alex/AC.

I keep current with the usual EP focus when getting gwall:

Mind you, no slider efforts into grabbing this stuff.

After whipping in some unis for oxford and then getting oxford in thebes/some trades with other continent I get rifling @ 1515 AD.

Again, seems kind of slow, but way faster than the idiots I'm next to (they definitely helped slow me down). The other factor that slowed me a bit was the fact that I was able to get 12 cities settled without war. The map has some areas that are pretty good for hammers. I went theology and had been spamming maces and catapults @ 5 xp prior to getting to rifles. Therefore, the rifling war prep did not take a long time at all . A great merchant one of my cities popped earlier was burned in china via a caravel, and off I go:

Accuracy cats are more hammer efficient than trebs for bombardment, and they're slightly better with collateral...the only caveat is that you will lose them. This didn't concern me. I frequently needed little or no collateral to have > 95% odds with my CR II rifles. Alex had some troops but it was all medieval, and pretty soon it was all toast:

Techs:

1670tech0000.jpg

I'm set to steal corp from AC in a few turns.

What's my VC here?

Well, obviously the easiest one. UN. To clear the UN requirements I need to:

1. Declare on and capture all of AC's cities to get a decent amount of pop
2. Make sure someone other than myself or china builds the UN. Asoka and charlie are likely tech gift targets.

As AC is pretty behind (no replaceable parts/PP) and doesn't build a lot of troops, a 3 way stack split assault should make short work of him easily. Nobody has electricity yet so I can easily direct mass media to whomever I want.

I have a -1 with mao for declaring on alex. I am in his favorite civic and have started gifting him resources ahead of time, however. He does not like AC. Between civics/fair trade/OB/resources he'll be friendly before the UN is built or shortly after.

I THINK that will net me enough pop. If it does not, I'll declare on sitting bull with infantry/arty or something. Nobody likes SB, and mao hates him.

I'll play the rest out in a bit after I take care of some things around the house.

1884 AD is gaaaaaaaame over, man.

Spoiler :
I was teching for MM but trades for steampower and the aforementioned corporation tech steal made infantry mighty tempting. I attain the tech as I DoW AC as a precaution. After all, he doesn't have even replaceable parts when I DoW and isn't researching it, but this is immortal, where the AI cheats and pulls techs out of its ass as you take its best cities, and then still has the money to upgrade every single remaining unit. No...I'll not fall for that garbage again.

I have cannons yay so like no more needing a hundred bajillion siege to bombard (though leftover cats were still used). I DID use 3 stacks, and they met very little resistance. As I moved into his first city he suicided his stack into my rifles with guerilla II on a hill outside his city. The rest was just CR rifle, and infantry spam cakewalking:

Now, I gifted mass media to Asoka and whatever. Had to take another "no war" diplo hit with mao because he wanted me to dow charlie. In retrospect I should have just agreed.

Then, annoyingly he leaves SP, his favorite civic, for ENVIRONMENTALISM, voluntarily...exactly why was this considered beneficial by the AI? He was pretty big, too!

So I go to swap him back to not lose the favorite civic bonus:

3 consecutive spy failures. Ok, so that had a reasonable chance of happening (chances of one of the 3 succeeding was only 70%). Where the RNG actually screwed me is the instant -2 spy causing trouble BS. -2 for 3 spies? That's absurd. I've stolen 10+ techs and gotten -2.

So I actually think "i better hang up UN and go for something else". I have the hammers and not the religions or corps, and nobody else is too close to culture, so I start teching for space. I beeline computers and get there first, finishing the internet before anyone else gets the tech. Then, as I tech spaceship techs and mao hopelessly tries to keep up with my ridiculously oversided SP empire with massive mfg, I realize that I can probably still win UN after all.

I:

1. Bribe Mao into war with SB (who took charlie as a voluntary vassal)
2. Swap Mao back into SP (now he has sushi too hahaahahahaha).

These two things combined gave me back just enough merit for:

If I'd just gone to war with charlie, this would have gone quicker. Oh well. Thanks for building my win, Asoka.

Space race victory, 1922

Spoiler :

Alex and AC were at war, and Alex was losing. As soon as I had some riflemen I declared war on Alex, and then it was just a race between AC and me to grab Greek cities. In 1485 Alex was dead.

Just a few turns later I got steel and upgraded my trebs to cannons, and declared war on the Romans. AC was no pushover and took a border city with a massive SOD, but once it was trapped there it was a sitting target for wave after wave of riflemen attacks. After the SOD had been destroyed it was only mopping up left, and the last Roman city fell in 1630.

I switched to SP, and research Radio and MM. The Roman land had great production, and I got all late wonders except for the Pentagon. Diplomacy and defense was easy, since we all hated Mao who was very backwards. However, the other AI:s didn't love me enough to give me a diplomatic victory, so I had go for space instead.

Apollo came in 1871 (a bit late because I had researched computers/robotics first), and the ship was launched in 1907.

Has anyone got leader/map requests for the next IU? I intend to start another game this weekend.
