Imperial Glory

To Rhineland
From Bavaria

My predecessor personally banned the Illuminati, and that decision is upheld to this day. As we said, we do not desire any form of domination, but only trade. Therefore, you can trust us, as blowing up Cologne, or any location along the river, is not conducive to trade. And if we are all profiting from peace and free trade along the river, surely the risk of war is less for all of us.

To all German states
From Bavaria

For your own sake, do not join the Prussian alliance. Bavaria is not powerful enough to take you over and it does not want to either. We have no interest in proselytism; our speech was entirely to do with defence, not offence, and domestic policy.

To Austria
From Bavaria

Is it possible that we might be allowed concessions in Austrian ports, so that we can buy raw materials from the New World?

CC Our Protestant Brothers

So we see the true face of Bavaria and Austria. They would have us "converted" to the worship of the papal see, forcing us to be slaves yet again to idolatry and the clerical abuses which we have fought so hard to secure ourselves from. Such a thing cannot be allowed to happen for it would mean the end of the religious friends our forefathers died for. This so called Catholic League is a blatant attempt to undermine these freedoms that both Protestants and Calvinists, nay all those who have broken free of the shackles of papal oppression.

Let it not be said, when the Catholic hordes come marching to your door step and breaking down your doors that Prussia did not warn you. Let it not be said that when the slaves of the pope tore your children from their mothers, that Prussia did not warn you. Instead, rally now so that we may stand strong in the face of tyranny. Rally to protect that door.

To: The Holy See

Portugal sends the warmest of greetings to His Eminence. We come to inquire about happenings which were relayed to us that fell ill upon our ears, and to ask for reassurance that this is not so. We wish for enlightenment on this idea of a "Catholic League" which does not comprise the majority of Catholic nations, nor have a specific intent in mind. Surely our Father is not attempting to forge an alliance for Spain over the concerns of all our Catholic brothers? We are of the opinion that while cooperation between the brothers of Our faith is highly important, the creation of a league of this nature is damaging to our relationship with the Church.

To Prussia
From Bavaria

Your accusations are fully unjustified. Please justify them if you hope that any state without a vested interest will believe them. Why do you say that our assurances that we are not interested in proselytism show that we are?

OOC: Omega124, you can not marry Prussian royals who do not exist!

Courland would like to seek membership to your alliance. We are a Catholic county too. (At least, so I have read?)

To: Rhineland
From: Dutch Republic

Your insane ramblings don't do well to establish a reputation for your small country. Until you can provide evidence of Dutch plans to have anything to do with your insignificant nation we suggest you not act like a fool.

To: Prussia
From: Dutch Republic

We will not establish a trade alliance with anyone who forms alliances with those who openly accuse our great republic of crazy things. Either you denounce your involvement with this alliance, or no trade agreement can be made. This alliance is a direct assault on the sovereignty of central European states.

Furthermore, regarding Bavaria, why should we think ill of them for being pious about their religion. Their harsh words towards Calvinism saddens us, as it does many, but the way to religious tolerance is not to shut them out completely. This trade agreement will help the religious bigotry taking place amongst parts of Bavarian population to disperse and they can fully enter the modern world of religiously tolerant nations.

To: Courland
From: Dutch Republic

Yes a peace treaty could be made. Write one up and we'll see about signing it.

From The Kingdom of Prussia
To The Dutch Republic

As stated previously the King holds nothing but love in his heart for the dutch people. Theyy are cousins of germany and have always been treated with great respect. However in respect to Bavaria, they have made no attempt to relax their assault on protestants and now willingly ally themselves with Catholic nations throughout Europe. This is clearly a blatant effort to destroy the balance of power within Central Europe, nay all of Europe. You say that the alliance of Prussia is something designed to disrupt Central Europe, yet was it not Bavaria who first sought to tip the scales?

To the Kingdom of the Rhineland

We advise you to retract your baseless accusations against the Republic of the Netherlands.

We agree that a Protestant league is necessary in order to preserve the balance between the followers of the Pope and those of Martin's freedoms. I propose the name of our Protestant league shall be called "Children of Martin", and extend membership to all protestant nations, especially those on Britannia.

We, on request, extract and apologize all insults to the Dutch. We, however, do not do so to Austria and Bavaria.

From: The Dutch Republic
To: Prussia

You'll have to forgive us, perhaps we aren't completely up to date as far as recent history goes. We have seen nothing that indicates Bavaria is trying to disrupt power in Central Europe. Even the King's most recent speech mentioned an increased amount of religious tolerance in his country. They are on the right path, and we don't see how a simple trade agreement means to disrupt any power balance, so perhaps you should elaborate.

To: The Kingdom of Rhineland
From: The Dutch Republic

Apology accepted, although we hope this does not happen again. As for your Protestant League, we have no interest in joining it as it's motives seem very questionable.

Treaty of Amsterdam
-Any and all fighting between the nations, or colonies of the Netherlands, or Courland will cease.
-Both nations shall respect each other's territorial claims.

This is what I have so far. Anything you would like to include? I would very much like to include something about trade rights. Also, may I suggest a Mutual Defense Pact, or some such thing? At least when it comes to our colonies? We'll be in contact.

To: Courland
From: Dutch Republic

A mutual defense pact seems a bit out of the question for the time being, especially given the distance between our nation(OOC: your right next to Russia in the baltics, right?). A trade agreement could be beneficial, perhaps part of a larger North Sea agreement when some things get settled.

To: The Dutch Republic
From: Courland

I meant in respect to our colonies, but fair enough. A trade agreement shall be added.

Treaty of Amsterdam
-Any and all fighting between the nations, or colonies of the Netherlands, or Courland will cease.
-Both nations shall respect each other's territorial claims.
-Trade rights for both nations are to be secured.
SIGNED: King of Courland, King Ludwig II

Perhaps, with time, our nations will become closer. We hope this is but one of many treaties, leading down that path.

Sounds good.

Aye.

Quick question; it says I have 7 EP, and +3 from colonies? Does this mean, I really have 10 EP, or that I have 7 EP, and without my colonies, it is more like 4?

OOC: I suspect that there is confusion amongst the German states of who is who, since they all look the same. Particularly those nations of the Rhine. The Rhine comes through the Netherlands, then passes through Wesel, Westphalia, and then through Cologne, Kingdom of the Rhine. So it goes Netherlands orange, Westphalia pink, and Rhineland pinkish-purple.

Just in case there was any confusion.

To: Bavaria

If we are allowed similar concessions on your ports on the Rhine and Danube we can agree to this.

To: Prussia and Rhineland
From: Austria

Had your nations paid more than an ounce of attention you might have realized we have not yet joined any Catholic League. Indeed, for the pure purpose of upholding the balance of power, we had considered opting out until very recently. However, the aggressive attitude of Prussia and Rhineland has changed this. Your warmongering attitude and your baseless accusations against Austria have now forced us to seek mutual security elsewhere. Whatever your intentions may be, you are putting Germany on the path to war. We hope you fix your mistakes before blood is shed.

Treaty of Fiume

1. Austrian merchants may trade freely in the main marketplaces in Regensburg, Bamberg, and Passau.

2. Bavarian merchants may trade freely in the main marketplaces and harbours in Fiume, Trieste, and Zengg.

Signed HM Maximilian Joseph
