Into a New World
This world is strange. Like the Equestria of old, it is lush and green and filled with life. but the creatures here are skittish. They seem to lack that spark of intelligence that is familiar back home, and none of them have any hint of magic. As far as I can tell, no major disaster has befallen this world, and yet, the weather changes on its own. No creature implements a divine order upon the clouds and the seasons to drive back the natural chaos of nature, and yet, the land seems to thrive.
My magic is weaker here than it was in the world of old. Spells that used to take nothing but a thought now drain away at my strength and it seems the same fate has befallen the unicorns as well. No matter though, this is exactly why Earth Pony engineering and ingenuity is superior to such shortcuts used by unicorns. Our machines still stand strong and function as they should.

First Contact
I met a strange creature today unlike any other I have seen upon this virgin earth. He stumbled into a settlement wide-eyed, looking around as if he had expected some other creature to be in command of us. This tan hairless creature stood upon two legs and towered over the larger ponies by about 2 feet. He had arms that extended out into grasping talons like a griffon, but unlike griffons, these talons were not hard scaled digits, but rather soft, flexible, and dexterous instruments. His head was small compared to the rest of his body and seemed to be the only place that grew any hair. His intelligent eyes, that he appeared to be wearing some sort of clothing, and that the sounds he made seemed to have a complex pattern to them hinted that he may perhaps be sentient, unlike all the other creatures upon this planet.
I stepped out to him and reached out to touch him gently with my horn. As i stepped out, he eyed me curiously, and then flinched when I began to lower my horn. His hand moved to an instrument hanging by his and rested there. A few seconds passed before he relaxed and then he reached out gently grasping my horn. Power built up in my body and flowed away just as suddenly through a bright flash emanating from my horn. The communication left me physically drained but I didn't show it. I began to speak in his tongue. He quickly hid his surprise and diplomatic relation began between us and Alexandria.

Yep, it looks like farsight may have already allocated CivG's claims when he updated the map, though there should only be 16, instead of 17 territories.

“Thank you, Doctor,” replied Bashir Gil-Am, “Please, enlighten us.”
“Well,” began Dr. Anahita, “First & foremost, most of New Ctesiphon has been lost; only our territories in old Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq, & Saudi Arabia survived. Furthermore, the extent to which the Event affected the territories that did transfer to this planet varies; the glass fields surrounding New Ctesiphon & Jerusalem are intact, as are the shrines of Medina. The ruins of Bagdad, however, have disappeared completely, as has the Suez Canal."
“Hmm… interesting. Have we discovered what causes the different areas to have been affected the way they have, Doctor?” Bashir Gil-Am asked.
“No,” replied Dr. Anahita, “We have yet to uncover any sort of pattern- there appears to be no rhyme or reason behind the various levels to which New Ctesiphon has been affected by the Event.”
“Secondly: I have the geological survey you requested. The rocks & sedimentary layers of the land are 99% similar to those of our old planet. There is one massive difference, though- on this planet, the oil has never been touched.”
“Really? So New Ctesiphon is sitting on one of the largest deposits of one of the most valuable natural resources in history?” Remarked Bashir Gil-Am.
“That is correct, sir.” Said Dr. Anahita.
“Good to know,” said Bashir Gil-Am.
“Oh, it gets better,” said Dr. Anahita, “The ecosystems we have encountered seem to resemble that of the Late Pliocene, Early Pleistocene. For the most part, the environments of the Middle East are very similar to what we knew on the old planet-with one major exception. The Syrian Elephant is thriving in the Levant, and our bases in Egypt report sightings of the extinct North African Elephant.”
“Wait, hold on,” said Dilawar Ezer, “We’ve been transported to a virgin Earth, and the only difference between our old ecosystem & our new one is a couple of Elephants? How does that conclusively prove we are in the Late Pliocene?”
“Because,” answered Dr. Anahita, “The Middle-East does not have adequate quantities of food to support the existence of large creatures. We know we are in the Late Pliocene, Early Pleistocene because our scout aircraft have seen Pliocene fauna in the regions they were sent to explore; herds of Gomphotheres & Stegodonts roam the lands to our west & Cave Lions thrive in the Balkans; curiously, we have yet to find any trace of Australopithecines- or any non-human member of the subtribe Hominina, for that matter.”
“Hang on,” said Bashir Gil-Am, “You said that we have found no traces of any non-human hominans- has our scout craft detected evidence of humans here?”
“Yes,” replied Dr. Anahita, “It would appear that New Ctesiphon was not the only nation transported to this new Earth. One of our planes established contact with someone who claimed to know Alexander of Macedon while flying over India.”
“I was not aware out computers could translate archaic Macedonian,” said Bashir Gil-Am.
“They can’t,” said Dr. Anahita, “But they can translate Persian, and the man was able to speak one of its dialects.”
Bashir Gil-Am rubs his chin for several minutes, thinking, before making an announcement.
“It is imperative that learn as much about this planet as possible; it would be unfortunate if we got into a war over conflicting claims with a county we’ve never heard of. We’ll have to send a satellite into orbit by the end of the year.”

Update 1
The various nations of the world have begun to expand and industrialise. In Asia, an alliance between Alexandria, the Yut Federation, and the Red Eyes legion has formed. Meanwhile in North America, territorial disputes disputes have risen between Equestria and Quebec(??!?!!?!!) over control of New England.
