In breaking news, Texarkana and the Empire of Japan are at peace. The peace with honor has reaffirmed the role of both countries in their respective regions.

the Roman Empire would like to know why they declared peace.

the Roman Empire would like to know why they declared peace.

Texarkana considered Japan, at best, to be a natural rival not due to ideological or racial differences, but merely because we are both powers.

However, the Allies now count a country Texarkana considers an ideological enemy. If by withdrawing a soldier or sailor from commitment two Greek soldiers die, then Texarkana will have achieve one geopolitical goal, whereas the continued war with Japan serves no geopolitical interest for the new Texarkana.

To this end, I, Francis I, have came to the conclusion that Texarkana shares more geopolitical goals with Japan than it does with the UN-Allies, especially in regards to our mutual antagonism to the Greek state. Seeing that Texarkana and Japan share more goals than we each have conflicting goals, it only made sense that I end this pointless war.

Japan would like to confirm the news of the peace treaty with Texarkana.

The countries of North America share a rich history of cooperation. I invite the leaders of our neighbors to a summit in New Orleans next spring so that our nations may discuss pan-continental issues and seek solutions to enrich the continent and our peoples.

The United States of America will naturally be attending.

the Roman Emperor understands. the actions of the upstart Greek republic is... embarrassing, to say the least. we weren't blind to their antics, but we decided to put up with it, until the war is over. its a little harder than it looks.

anyway, can Texarkanas arrange some kind of cooperation with the allies, or are you out of it completely?

Wonderful. As the Mayor of Kingston shall also be attending, that leaves our newest neighbor, Field Marshal Jameson of the NAU.

Any party that is not Greece is allowed to buy supplies from Texarkana on a cash-and-carry basis. The Panama Canal is, of course, neutral, not that it matters since lock restoration isn't slated for completion until 2120.

The UAC applauds Texarkana's efforts to ensure that any disputes in North America are resolved peacefully and with great foresight.

In the meantime, the UAC welcomes free trade with other nations, so as to allow for more specialisation between us and our partners and thus maximise economic prosperity for our peoples.

UAC is especially interested in securing treaties with Prohibitionist nations to allow lenient drug policies in port cities of choice, at least for personal use - UAC has a thriving drug production industry, and would love to do business with other nations on the subject. Smuggling is a common problem in the Confederacy, with many drugs being illegally shipped into Prohibitionist countries; establishing treaty ports where drug policies are relaxed would allow both the UAC and other countries to profit from drug consumption via tax revenues.

Martial Law in Japan

The declaration of martial law in Japan was welcomed by its people, many rejoicing over the new safety it would provide them with. Meanwhile in Vietnam the law was not so welcomed as the majority of able bodied men were pressed into either conscription into Japan’s army or into the construction of defences throughout Vietnam. The efficiency with which these defences were built does credit to the Japanese system. All the towns and military installations are now heavily fortified with long “walls” of defences crossing the country – a combination of earthworks and gun emplacements these are designed to hold of the quickly advancing UN forces. POWs were also used in the construction of the walls with Platonic prisoners rumoured to be favoured for the worst and most exhausting jobs. Reports from escaped workers indicate they were being held in horrendous conditions and forced to work up to 20 hours a day with hundreds dying of starvation and exhaustion.

Renewed UN offensive

Despite the major setbacks of the autumn months the Un forces rallied together for another push at Japan. These attacks, coordinated along the coast of Vietnam with combined arms and tactical planning almost ensuring success, were only slowed by the fortifications erected on a massive scale by the Japanese slave labour. On the Chinese eastern front there was significantly less success with the might of Japan’s army being able to display itself fully and in many of the pitched battles the Japanese overran the China’s army. Meanwhile Gangnam troops made good ground against the Japanese and secured the city of Tianjin and the surrounding area. This state has been incorporated into the Transitionary State of Beijing.
Meanwhile much of the resources that were lost during the autumn are quickly being replaced, Malacca’s ships have been for the most part repaired and much of the manpower lost has been compensated for by the joining of China into the conflict. However Japan remains in control of the JCZ above Manila; its naval superiority as of yet unmatched. It is suspected that Texarkana pulling out of the war will have a negative effect on the balance of the conflict.

End of Monaco

The Empire of Monaco has crumbled after the death of its Emperor. It has split into 3 independent states. Barcelona, a republic centered in Catalonia; Italy, governed from Milan; and Monaco, the remnant of the previous administration. The new Monaco government is seen as being very Pro- France however due to recent developments and the underlying gender inequality in France they felt unable merge with the nation.

Death of the Emperor

The Roman Empire along with the Platonic Republic launched a daring raid into Japan’s core by attacking Taiwan. The problems with the operation began at its inception with Xylon Toto being attacked by Libyan agents while his ships stopped at Suez. Though he still lives he is in critical condition after receiving gunshot and knife wounds and is now in a hospital in Egypt. Rumour has it that he is considering retirement to Mozambique or some other location in East Africa. Following the initial setbacks the joint fleet made it to Ho Chi Minh City where it was able to resupply and link up with the other Roman forces in Indochina. The fleet then set sail into the JCZ. Before they made it to Taiwan they were accosted by a Japanese fleet that managed to vastly reduce their numbers before having to retreat as even though the Japanese were better equipped and trained the reduced Platonic-Roman fleet still outnumbered them. Upon reaching Taiwan an ill-planned costal invasion began which some survivors likened to the chaos of the Gallipoli or Normandy landings from the old wars. The Emperor of Rome, leading his troops from the front line was cut down by machine gun fire during the first few minutes of the landings. Analysts suspect that this further exacerbated the already precarious situation of the invaders and in the end the attack was brushed off by the Japanese with relative ease. The Roman and Platonic forces regrouped before sailing back to Vietnam only to be intercepted by a Japanese fleet, much large than before. Only a fraction of the original force made it back to Ho Chi Minh City. Toto issued a statement from Egypt claiming that under his leadership rather than that of the “Boy those Romans have for an Emperor” would have made the battle go more smoothly. The Roman leadership seems to disagree with him.

HMS Rosemary Disappears

Though the last of the Plutonium had been removed and the bodies laid to rest the HMS Rosemary had been kept in a UAR shipyard in Suez. However during mid-February the ship disappeared from its moorings. No reliable witnesses saw it disappear and the security cameras were suffering technical difficulties at the time of the disappearance. Many conspiracy theorists and paranormal activity people have speculated as to how little we know about the HMS Rosemary or its history. Not many shipping records remain from that time period of the British Isles and it was never fully explained why or how the bodies and the plutonium ended up on the ship. With so little public knowledge on such things it is no wonder that theories have popped up to fill in the gaps.

Comet-like Object Sighted

A celestial body fell through the atmosphere towards Caen in early January with devastating effect. The meteorite exploded above Caen with a magnitude of 22 Mt occurring at an altitude of 3 km. The unprecedentedly huge explosion, compared by many to the Tunguska incident that occurred 2 centuries previously, destroyed the city of Caen and the majority of Normandy, casualties are in the thousands. The earliest reports of the disaster indicated that people travelling to Caen after the blast found nothing but ruins practically flattened by the explosion. As of yet no survivors from Caen have been recovered. The impact occurring at night it is still debated by scientists as to the nature of the meteorite. There are few eye witness reports and those that have come out are not hugely enlightening. Some specimens found in small craters are thought to be fragments of the meteorite and are being taken back to French Universities for analysis. With the destruction of such a large area of land many are worrying that this may be too much for the provisional French leadership to take care of. Many are crying out for justice against those who destroyed their leadership just before they needed it most. The Rosemaryists still at large are of the opinion that the President of France faked her own death as with no real evidence found on the site of the explosion, conspiracy theories are spreading like wildfire throughout metropolitan areas. The already fragile state of France has been smashed with the worst of natural disasters. Some scientists are speculating that the disaster will result in long term environmental impacts on the whole world’s ecology but as of yet there is little evidence to substantiate their claims.

Death of the Roman Emperor

the Roman Empire is in mourning after the death of Andreas I Laskaris, Emperor of the Roman Empire. his rule was fair and just to every Roman Citizen in the Empire. though he has made some mistakes, and argued with the platonic republic often, he singlehandedly overruled the traditional Roman doctrine, in favor of trying to safegaurd civilian lives. obviously, that cost him in the end, as he did not order a naval or air bombardment of Taiwan.

Emperor Andreas did not properly secure his succession, so the senate is debating several options as to who will be the new Emperor or Empress.

Destruction of the Roman Military

the invasion of taiwan was a failure. hundreds of thousands of Roman soliders and sailors are dead. the fault lies in the lack of cooperation with the platonics, the strength of the Japanese Navy, and a failure to scout the area.

obviously, with that, the Roman Empire is in no shape to continue the war against japan. we lost about 70% of our navy, and a great majority of our Army. last season it numbered 750,000. now, it numbers 102,000.

Japan knows how to forgive, and so we are willing to offer you a peace treaty. The only conditions are that you embargo UAR and the other Allies that fight against Japan. In return, Japan shall make investments in the Roman Empire to make up for any losses.

can we have a clear list of who is at war with whom?
Japan & its puppet

v.

China, Gangnam, Greece, Indo-Persia, Ireland, Malacca, United Arab Republic, their dependents, and apparently until five minutes ago, Rome.

Officially. The initial attack on Saigon apparently had no consequence for NPC'd countries.

The United Arab Republic voices its concern that subversive agents managed to infiltrate the Greek convoy, and pledges it conduct a full investigation into the incident. We request Athens refrain from involvement at this time, as Greek interference will likely exacerbate the situation.

apparently until five minutes ago, Rome.

the Roman ambassador would like to point out that, right now, there is no one to negotiate with, and hence cannot sign any peace treaty.

(OOC: absolute monarchy, remember?)

the Senate just decided to appoint one of its own, temporarily, just to sign this very forgiving peace treaty. let there be peace between our great nations.

(OOC: how will you make up for 650,000 dead soliders, and about 90 ships, including the Constantinople?)

the Senate apologizes to the UAR, the platonic Republic, and every ally fighting against japan. surely you understand that 100,000 soldiers and 30 ships aren't even enough to defend, let alone attack?

Public Report on the Safety of the Platonic Republic
By Oussama Mihayshi and Yorgos Verga of the Governing Caste

All that does not change dies. Evolution dictates it is not the strongest that survive, nor even the wisest, but those more able to change. We, as among the founders of the Platonic Republic, sought change from the chaos that plagued Greece and Benghazi before the Yellow Dawn that saw both Greece and Benghazi set to the light of Plato's The Republic. This guidebook is the reasoning for the best model of power but it appears we have not held its wisdom enough but rather failed to honor its notions, while at the same time becoming too unadaptive to the world, which came to cost us twice with Japan.

The "yes men" Takis Papadakis relies on to set his agenda among the Philosopher Council, to uphold his populist militarism, was a sure embarrassment. Unlike Thessaloniki Japan is not ruled by populist dictate but by martial notions set to help defend their own agenda. While we cannot promote their treatment of Vietnam it is obvious that a tide of misdirection make ignorant many of my so called Philosopher Councillors. We are in question of whether we should be purged so that the next generation of Philosopher Councillors should replace us and follow Plato's word more greatly.

General Toto is right even if he is wrong; he would have made a better military overseer than Andreas but Toto was too specialized in dealing with militants and serving the line, not for organist mass scale invasions of powers more mightier than our own. I would like to know what arrogance leaded us to Taiwan anyway. Rome's naive attitude is overshadowed by Takis Papadakis's arrogance; our best is not wise but cunning without justice.

In the end we are failing to adapt beyond the mandate, still echoing the unjust elements within our own Council. It is in this that Japan is not the greater threat, nor Texankana but ourselves. Worse I fear that even dis-guarding the arrogance of Takis Papadakis there is the notion that we face a threat greater than Japan and Texankana together, for both those powers in their greatness rely on physical mobilization to meet us on the field of battle. The People's Militia on the other hand have contempt for the traditions of combat, seeking instead to adapt to the change of war by going beyond its limitations. Their assassination attempt on General Toto was a clear move that we must admit as a strategic hindrance that aided Japan. Even with the exile of the Militia's head we still have to remember that insurgencies are not classic armies reliant on generals but can have their local cells operate on their purpose of their mission independent from a strict command structure as to avoid linkage to the leadership; such tactics the Irish Republican Army was once notable for adopting.

What ever the case it was a ill move to attack Japan when the People's Militia was lurking in the shadows, awaiting for the perfect moment. Now we have weakened our army and the People's Militia can enjoy their coffee. What ever the case the People's Militia have a opportunity and Japan is not going to allow us a second mercy. We have failed ourselves and Takis Papadakis deserves to be fired by bullets for becoming a mockery. As founders we have the privilege as a patron symbols of the Platonic Republic. Eleni Agne is eager to support such stance against Papadakis. Olympia Zeno on the other hand has most respectfully opposed us, stating Takis Papadakis as someone whom can be set for our purposes. What ever the case though our courses are clear, for they must be if we are to withstand the People's Militia exploitation of the matters and our enemies likelihood to supply our greatest foe the moral authority needed to further enhance their plague.

May Andreas Hatzis, Theophylaktos Rodia and Zied Al Borki souls not be troubled from the injustice any longer; we will cleanse the Republic of the filth that hinders it. The purge must be considered greatly!

OOC: likelihood of Ailehoo defecting to the People's Militia; increasing. Even if I do not I think the People's Militia deserve a profile... which I am happy to design.

Assasination Attempt!

Emergency News Bulletin
A terrorist attack has been stopped just minutes ago. The target is believed to have been President Je Sung. A missile was used in the attack, and it targeted the Government of the building, especially the north corner, in which the Presiden't office is located.

The missile appeared on the radars as coming from the west, and heading towards Japan, but it suddenly changed it's course when near Seoul and the anti-missile defense was alerted. A counter-missile was launched from Seoul's military base, and it destroyed the incoming missile just in time to save the President. The two missiles intersected just 10 feet away from the building, causing multiple windows to shatter and two guards to temporarily lose their hearing. It is believed that the blast radius would have been bigger, but the counter-missile disabled the mechanism that triggered the explosion when the missiles intersected, launching the explosive 300 meters upwards, where it exploded again. The nearby citizens panicked, but calmed down in only minutes when information was released about the lack of casualties.

Investigations revealed that the missile came from a bigger distance, being launched from somewhere in the general area of Europe. They missile's trajectory shows that it actually went into space before losing altitude and striking.

Upon hearing about the incident, the Minister of Internal Affairs Hae Wonguro called for an emergency meeting and decided that all Gangnam Military bases should be equipped with anti-missile equipment.
