Would you two kindly take this argument elsewhere? You're just spamming up the thread again.

Both of you are awarded 1 shame point. I hope you both treasure them.

This puts Math on his 1st Warning.

You have been warned

no. you may have won at Vietnam, but Japan will not stop the war until every single one of its provinces are conquered. you have a *long* way to go, and your embargoing of any nation that co-operates with Japan may just cost you instead.

we chose to attack on another front, because it was our firm belief that the UN is unable to attack more than one front at a time. we turned out to be right, as they did not take the opportunity to invade Taiwan with us, assist china in liberating Japanese China, or even do something demoralizing to the Japanese, like the Doolittle Raid of 1942.

considering all we did was turn Taiwan into a fortress, and gave its navy a lot of experience, it might be a lot harder for the UN to invade Taiwan, much less Japan. maybe even impossible. had we stuck with you, we would have lost far more than just the entire expeditionary force.

besides, we are Romans. we wanted to be on the top. the center of civilization. we failed badly, and paid the price, and we shall not try again, even with co-operation with the UN.

It seems that the Romans are the only ones to understand that soon the war will turn around and our troops shall march on to the ruins of Cairo.

Turn 9

Xylon Toto was lying in his hospital bed in St. Joan's Hospital in Maputo. The rain pattered on the window near his head. It was only single glazed but it wasn’t like it was cold out here so he was fine with it, it meant that he could hear the patter all the more loudly. Ever since the incident in Suez he had been in love with the rain. Going without it in the bone dry Egyptian hospital had been too much for him. But Africa was perfect; the rain was loud and warm and formed into these large droplets like nothing they ever had in Greece. The windows of his ward faced the direction of the prevailing wind so the rain always pattered off them. Xylon liked his ward.

There were other people there too, strangely this ward seemed to me for the most part comprised of officers from the African military who had been injured in the Vietnam war. There was one whose bed was always surrounded by a curtain; he had heard it was Major Ian Wishart, an officer of the Springheel Jack’s Rhodesia’s special operations group.

Xylon could respect the Springheel Jack program. It made sense. Much more so than Austria’s new military advances. Springheel Jacks were fast, light, agile and most of all they were easy to outfit. They made the perfect killers and they were cheap. While Austria invested billions in an exoskeleton project Rhodesia could make super-soldiers with a few injections and a bit of surgery. It was genius really.

It seemed like Wishart was being quite often visited by nurses and doctors carrying things that looked like bits of old scrap and more than once he’d seen them carrying large syringes that made him cringe just to look at. Xylon had his suspicions that they were experimenting on the man behind the curtain, trying to build there something even better than the current Springheel Jack. That was all probably just his imagination though. The imagination of an old wounded Greek officer with not much left but the patter of the rain on his window.

Inas El-Ghazzaway stepped off the 12:30 flight to Maputo. Her hands trembled slightly at the thought of what she was doing here. Having escaped a Russian Gulag and braved all the trials of reaching this place she thought she would’ve been a bit less nervous but fate did not seem to agree. There was a light shower of rain across as she walked over to the terminal with the rest of the passengers. Most of them were well spoken Indonesian Investors or diplomats from the UAR. She’d overheard whispers of quiet conversation during the flight. Aeroplane travel was expensive in this day and age. Her ticket had cost her around half a million Bermudian Pounds (The standard currency for international transactions) with that sort of money she could have bought a house or three. All with brand new Algae generators and solar collectors. It was more money that most people, even in wealthy countries would earn in their entire lifetimes. Some of the old historical records that survived the wars spoke of a time when fuel was abundant and nearly everyone could afford to travel by aeroplane on their holidays some accounts even reported that people would commute to work using Aeroplanes. How times change, she thought.

She checked in and walked past the baggage collection area, she had no need for baggage, not anymore. She set off into Maputo. Walking along the streets she realised how starkly different life was in the African Federation to how it was in the Platonic Republic. It wasn’t that there was more or less poverty, it’s just that the poverty was different. Here when she passed the poor they all seemed to be entrepreneurial, offering to sell her things or clean her shoes or offer other, less savoury services. In Greece those that were poor were poor because the Government told them to be poor. They lined the streets just the same as they did here, but in the Republic there was no vibrancy, just that downtrodden grimness.

Inas imagined that the people here thought that they were so much better off that the people in the Republic, but she thought they were wrong. For all the problems with the caste system it got one thing right. It let the people know that there was no hope for them – here they were too blinded by ambition to know that all their dreams are futile and that they will die as their fathers did, in poverty. The Republic had been a much better place to be a revolutionary.

Of course, Inas thought to herself as she brushed off another street salesman, she was no longer really a revolutionary; failed revolutionary fitted better. That’s why she was here really. There wasn’t much left for her anymore and not under her current name. Thus Inas El-Gazzaway would perform one last act on the stage before finally fading into obscurity. She slipped down a side street, remembering perfectly the directions she had taken such time to memorise when in the Gulag. She headed into a little shop that seemed to be selling furniture or something. A man stood at the counter he looked at her and said “Good day and who are you?”

She replied using the ubiquitous code of the Militia “I’m one who’s looking for an end.”

The man nodded and ushered her into a back room, they chatted for a while but she could see he was eager to get her moving on out. She’d been hoping he would be able to reassure her a bit with some old forgotten words or ancient melodies but none came. They went down some stairs to a secret cellar where he presented her with a decently sized handgun.

Two hours later she burst into the ward. Most of the patients had been moved out in fact she could only see one occupied bed, next to a window. She was glad of that, she’d had to kill seven doctors to get this far and she didn’t really want to kill any more innocents. It was dark by now and the man was asleep on the bed. She raised the gun to his head before calling out to him “General Toto, wake up – justice has finally come to you!”

Toto looked turned and opened his eyes, looking down the barrel of her gun. “It’s me General, El-Gazzaway of the people’s militia. I’ve come here to execute you for crimes against the people of Greece.”

The old man looked quite unfazed and replied. “You don’t want to kill me Inas, that’s not how you do things.”

She tried to put on her most maniacal grin as she replied. “Things have changed old man. The People’s Militia demands justice and I’m here to see it done.”

Toto shook his head, “The People’s Militia is gone Inas, and all your friends along with it. Your fight is over, just like mine is. There is no more Republic, no More Militia. Russia holds domain in our lands and nothing’s going to change that. Our age has passed, like all ages do. Our fight is no longer relevant and even if it was I’m not your great enemy. Yes I oversaw the invasion of Thessaloniki, but I also partook in the liberation of Vietnam and suchlike. Yes, I knew the invasion of Taiwan was going to fail but I let it happen anyway and I let the Roman Monarchy take control. Not because I’m a good man Inas but because my time was over. Now your time is over. Go home, travel somewhere. Get away. Take some time to do the things you never have.”

“Dammit Xylon, stop talking,” she replied waving the gun about. It had been a noble talk but she wasn’t really in the mood for listening to this old man pontificate. “It’s time for you to die. The People’s Militia will always remain, so long as there are oppressed people in the world there will always be a People’s Militia, in their hearts and minds. Robin Hood, the French Revolutionaries, the Paris Commune, the VietCong, the Quebec Guard and the London Republic. Throughout history the oppressed have risen up and they will do time and time again.”

“Inas, why did the Militia disband? It’s because you wanted to save lives, to stop the violence. Its all good and fine when you can control your little revolution but you couldn’t could you? You called for peaceful demonstration and they all went out and killed the Philosopher’s council. What about the Guillotine? You seem to forget that the Quebec Guard butchered 40,000 innocents in the name of their revolution. The London Republic was forged in the wake of a nuclear device planted by so called liberators. It will never work, your fight will not succeed because you don’t want it to. You never wanted any of this did you?” Inas felt her finger tighten around the trigger. This was it, she knew it in her heart, and she was going to kill this man in his bed in the next few seconds. She wasn’t quite sure how she felt, she just knew it was going to happen, she saw in Toto’s eyes that he knew it too.

“Goodbye, General Toto.”

In that instant he heard a gunshot a shatter of glass. There was blood everywhere. Why wasn’t he dead? She had been about to shoot him. He could hardly breathe for fear. Maybe he was dead. Then he was as the haze of fear receded. Another figure standing across the room. The figure was hardly human. His proportions so vastly distorted by drugs and stimulants. His lower legs were clad in metal cases, with giant industrial springs on the backs. His skin looked like it was ready to burst with muscle and the gun was almost dwarfed by the hand that held it. It was Major Wishart.

The Major nodded in Toto’s direction, before taking a great leap right over the General’s head and out of the shattered window behind. The remains of Inas’ body lay at the floor of Toto’s bed. It was almost like she was waiting there for him.

The rain pattered in through the broken glass washing the blood away.

Provisional Governent Gains Power in Libya

Amjad and El-Amin’s Provisional Government has been established in Libya under the supervision of several UAR observers to9 make sure that the transitionary period is kept as short as possible. Many see this as heralding a new era for the Mediterranean of peace and prosperity. Combined with what many see as the nearing end of the Japanese war people are becoming hopeful of a lasting peace.

Meanwhile in mainland Greece the Russian government has succeeded in maintaining peace now that the majority of the leaders of the People’s Militia have been transported off to Siberia where it is predicted by analysts that they will cause significantly less trouble. El-Gazzaway was found dead in Rhodesia with the main leadership dead or incarcerated and Abdulrashid condemning their actions the People’s Militia is no longer seen as a threat on the international stage.

Vietnam Rebuilds

With the help of peacekeepers from Laos and many other nation Vietnam is finally entering a recovery period. Though as of yet there have been no efforts to repopulate or rebuild Hanoi the rest of the country is slowly licking its wounds and preparing for a better future for all its citizens.

Japan’s Major offensive stopped in its tracks

Japan’s major planned offenses were cut short by China’s defensive strategies employed in the Mainland. The Japanese large vehicles and army attempted to move forwards only to find cities that had been evacuated and turned into fortresses. The countryside was similarly transformed and Japanese advances were negligible. With Japan’s forces focused in China Hainan was easily liberated by Chinese troops. Meanwhile it seems that industrial sabotage took place on a massive scale and chemical and biological warfare were employed upon the Japanese civilian population. Investigations are on-going as to how this occurred but currently the majority of fingers are pointing towards Indonesia as a possible source of the disruption. Many Japanese civilians lie dead in their houses or workplaces. It is unknown whether this was a miscalculation or the intention of the sabotage but a good third of the working population of mainland Japan has been killed, over 20 million people.

Some suspect that this was the work of the UN coalition and public opinion against the war has dropped in many nations. Japan’s economy is now in ruins and their military severely bloodied. Analysts believe that surrender may come within the next few months. However this major cull of Japan’s population did present an opportunity for unscrupulous Japanese politician Takeshi Ruchang who has taken on many of the administrative positions of the deceased politicians this has led to many journalists comparing him to the fictitious Gilbert and Sullivan character Pooh-Bah.

Nations Drop out of the UN this is generally a bad thing if you wish to remain in the GM’s Good Books

Many nations including the PAU and The African Federation have dropped out of the UN. This means that they can no longer engage in diplomatic conversation other than by spamming up the thread. It also removes them from a good deal of the diplomatic focus of this game which is quite a silly move. The GM does not approve, if you have problems with the UN maybe a few nations having Veto power or something would be good or maybe just make sure everyone was participating in the UN. I don’t know. I’m not going to force you to rejoin but you better be on your best behaviour from now on or you will incur the wrath of the GM. As we have already seen – Rocks will fall, people will die.

If I missed your claims for this turn I’m very very sorry but I just get so many PMs these days. Please PM me again if you think I have forgotten you.

20 million people? that's like two Roman Empires killed, right there, and it was a quarter of the popualtion. if this is indeed a work of sabotage, then the Empire harshly criticizes any nation(s) responsible. if this is an accident, then Emperor Theodoros Komnenos personally offers his condolences to the Japanese people.

we are willing to offer humanitarian supplies to Japan, should they need/want any. 20 million dead people would cause a very, very, serious disruption of every level of Japanese society and culture. it may even collapse entirely.

Seems like wrath has already been brought upon us.

An agent has returned from the NW American Union (I find it amusing that there are 3 nations calling themselves in some sense American Unions) reporting that there is under construction a chemical weapons factory. He tells that the construction is being supervised by UAR experts and that the intention is to build up a chemical weapons stockpile to use against Japan. He even heard rumours that Indonesia is working with the UAR to facilitate biological and chemical warfare on the Japanese front.

Looks like it is time the PAU and UAR have a frank discussion about the UAR's future as a nation.

We outrightly denounce this baseless accusations against us. Indonesia is not in any way cooperating with the UAR, Japan, or any other nation that participates in this war. We have maintained a strict policy of preventing any cooperation whatsoever that may change the balance of the war. It is part of our isolationist policy.

This smear campaign by PAU is an insult for Indonesia; and would ruin what otherwise be a continuing beneficial relationship between PAU and Indonesia.
We hope that Japan can look beyond this false accusations; Japanese-Indonesian relation should not in anyway be jeopardized by such baseless reports.

TO THE NORTHWESTERN UNION
EreVmpj.png

In light of the recent discovery of a chemical warfare plant being developed by the UAR in your country, the Northwestern Union has twenty-four hours to expel all advisers and UAR nationals from the NWU (except for those included in the second paragraph), agree to an investigation by the Texark-American forces of the Pan-American Union, and produce all documents relating to government and private projects undertaken within the NWU within the last nine months.

Those running the chemical factory, regardless of nationality, must be handed over to Texark-American Forces.

Failure to comply will be construed as a declaration of war by the NWU against the PAU. Should it come to this, we will make sure all members of the NWU government who approved of the chemical program will be put on trial for war crimes and attempted crimes against humanity.

It's not the PAU making these allegations. It's the Northwest American Union, which is not part of the PAU.

To clarify, these are rumors heard not in the PAU, but within the Northwestern Union. Therefore, the smear campaign against the Indonesia originates within the NWU.

We appreciate the clarifications, and therefore we would conduct a further investigation into this accusations. We would also hope that the PAU conducts their own investigation regarding this issue to clear the matter, it is in our best interest to keep good relations with all other nations; and false accusations like this one will be taken seriously by Indonesia.

Smear campaigns by other nations that tries to push Indonesia out of its neutrality policy and making it to choose sides in the war is unforgivable.

Archduchess Claudia Hapsburg has made a surprise announcement calling for peace in the Far East after the tragic loss of life in mainland Japan. The Archduchess called for a joint session to negotiate an end to the war between all belligerent parties, and has suggested Dublin, Ireland as a neutral meeting ground to meet upon.

In local news, Germany has also announced the passage of the Autobahn Restoration Act, an economic measure that will repair and modernize German infrastructure, notably the Autobahn Highway which is in dire need of maintenance. In addition to the repairs to the current structure, new expansions to the highway are being planned as well, including international connections to neighboring Poland and Italy.

OOC Robert can't
I understand that you are overwhelmed with this management, but you said that if there were going to be any mistakes, correction would be welcome. So here it is :)

Spoiler :
In my first post I posted my initial claims, which you both on turns 8 and 9 'under painted' so to speak 1074
In a second post after turn 8 I would make my claims. 1213 (Note: The map is slightly wrong as I forgot to include Hawaii on first post part, islands that are actually painted on my first claims. I see now that somehow ?Ireland has a bit of Hawaii instead of me :shifty: )
In a third post I made a bit of lore. I hope you read it. After posting it I edited my first post to include this new part 1372
In a fourth post I set clear what mere my final and all possessions (counting the claims on Salomon islands of turn 9) in this map, albeit it is non the one of the thread) 1384
So… PROOF.
Hoping that you will fix that :)
many thanks

The NWU admits the existence of the chemical facility, but adds that the facility was charged with the construction of non-lethal agents. We further add that there is no official ruling by the United Nations on this matter.

The NWU does not appreciate gunboat diplomacy, but is willing to open the plant for inspection by neutral inspectors.

Finally, we would like to add that we were not, so far as the Field Marshal knows, involved in the recent attack on Japan. The matter will, however, be thoroughly investigated.

The United Nations does have protocol on chemical warfare.
OOC: UN discussion group, "on wartime conventions"

It bars agents 'such as mustard gas and anthrax', both of which are lethal. A non-lethal weapon does not fit the same category.
