Good. Japan, as per the peace treaty, shall send a packet aid of 80 million dollars to Rome, as well as technical advisers, workers and machines to develop and modernize the ports of the Roman Empire, as well as military advisers to help the Roman army.

A new Emperor is chosen!

the Roman senate, having no other real option besides gain power for itself, which would have led into a civil war, as the people couldn't accept a democratic Roman Empire.

so, they simply elevated the highest Ranking Roman solider still alive. General Theodoros Komnenos, of the Constantinople Guard.

All Hail Theodoros I Komenos, Emperor of the Roman Empire!

Comet-like Object Sighted

A celestial body fell through the atmosphere towards Caen in early January with devastating effect. The meteorite exploded above Caen with a magnitude of 22 Mt occurring at an altitude of 3 km. The unprecedentedly huge explosion, compared by many to the Tunguska incident that occurred 2 centuries previously, destroyed the city of Caen and the majority of Normandy, casualties are in the thousands. The earliest reports of the disaster indicated that people travelling to Caen after the blast found nothing but ruins practically flattened by the explosion. As of yet no survivors from Caen have been recovered. The impact occurring at night it is still debated by scientists as to the nature of the meteorite. There are few eye witness reports and those that have come out are not hugely enlightening. Some specimens found in small craters are thought to be fragments of the meteorite and are being taken back to French Universities for analysis. With the destruction of such a large area of land many are worrying that this may be too much for the provisional French leadership to take care of. Many are crying out for justice against those who destroyed their leadership just before they needed it most. The Rosemaryists still at large are of the opinion that the President of France faked her own death as with no real evidence found on the site of the explosion, conspiracy theories are spreading like wildfire throughout metropolitan areas. The already fragile state of France has been smashed with the worst of natural disasters. Some scientists are speculating that the disaster will result in long term environmental impacts on the whole world’s ecology but as of yet there is little evidence to substantiate their claims.

The country may count on the full humanitarian support of Texarkana's citizens for the relieft effort to take way over the next year, should you accept it. Several of our universities would be happy to cooperate with their French counterparts to judge the long term effects of the disaster. Finally, our Civil Defense Agency wishes to send representatives to France to work with their counterparts.

The latter should aid in disaster response and relief in the future by figuring out what does and does not work in these situations, what precautions should be taken in the future, and what can be done for the population now and over the next six months.

All Hail Theodoros I Komenos, Emperor of the Roman Empire!

From: Francis I, Texarkana Mayornate
To: Theodoros I Komenos, Roman Empire

Is is a season of new leadership, is it not? Texarkana mourns the lost of the previous emperor who has always been a friend to Texarkana. I hope that despite the change of the guard, both countries will continue on the path of friendship and cooperation.

surely you understand that 100,000 soldiers and 30 ships aren't even enough to defend, let alone attack?

Ten divisions is plenty to defend a country. The world of military strategy isn't a game of Diplomacy where the general with the most soldiers will win on foreign soil every time.

Theodoros promises that the friendship and cooperation will resume in honor of the Late Emperor.

Pope John III*, from where he stood, could make out the many faces of the believers of the faith in the large square below. It was a miracle that so many could be packed into the square without shouting or anger, but even though songs were being sung and laughter had, the pope knew that events in Caen was on the minds of the people.

It had been a traumatic year thus far. Texarkana has managed to keep its boys out of the fray in Vietnam and inked a peace deal with Japan, and to that end, the pope was grateful. The people below looked to him for guidance in these times, and Pope John III felt he served the people as much as he served God.

So, with the letter sent by the new mayor himself, Pope John III delivered the speech that would save the souls of hundreds of thousands.
******

Mayor Francis I smiled, and on the surface, it was friendly. That was the smile he flashed to his friends in the congress that played ball, sure, but it was the same smile he flashed to his enemies in the congress. It was the same smile, but somehow it was threatening. However, it did the job of disarming both friend and enemy, and for that reason, Mayor Francis I was miles and beyond the danger posed by Hannegan to his political enemies.

Not just political danger, but physical danger.

From the Mayoral Address to Congress, 3 May 2106

"My predecessor was a great man. There is a laundry list of his accomplishments, the most important of which is his handling of the pirates, establishment of Kingston, expansion of our borders, and the infrastructure work on the highways that have connected the far-flung possessions of the Mayornate.

But more must be done! We cannot look at our southern border and be complacent, for the threat of incursion will always be real. The people in the lands untouched by the New Civilization are, inherently, untrustworthy in their dealings into incorporated into the Mayornate.

I come before Congress today to ask for a declaration of war. The late mayor left behind a powerful army. With this army, Texarkana shall fulfill the Will of God and restore Mexico to the fold, bring civilization back to the locals, and restore the Faith to hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of adherents who have lost touch for a century.

The wars will bring wealth and prosperity to us; security and happiness to them..."

Editor Note: The Congress of Texarkana would approve war measures with a supermajority in support.

*New Rome [OTL: St. Louis] considers itself the successor to the Pope in Rome. While there may have been (very likely) a Pope John III in Italy, the global breakdown of communication meant that New Rome became divorced from the old system.

Roman Military reorganization

Since the failure of Taiwan, and with our best front line troops and commanders dead, the army will have to be reorganized from the ground up. the Emperor hopes that by next season, the Army will boast a strength of 150,000 soliders, and be an effective fighting unit.

the Navy is a little more difficult. there are only 30 ships remaining. aside from the only destroyer that survived the Failure of Taiwan, the ships are mostly of the older types that are no longer useful for anything but patrol duty and some light combat.

the Destroyer will be repaired, refitted with the latest in ship technologies, including a small Thorium reactor, and become the new Flagship of the Roman Navy.

are current planned run is: 19 additional destroyers, 10 cruisers, 15 submarines and 15 Frigates.

we plan to gradually scrap the 29 older ships, and replace them with a final number of 60 ships. we estimate it will take about a decade.

Emperor Theodoros feels that the age of Aircraft carriers is over for Rome. we just cannot justify the expense of these ships, nor are they particularly useful against ships with significant anti air capability. so he has made an offer:

the Aircraft Carrier Justinian which is currently under construction has been offered for sale at 1 Billion dollars, which is the cost of building such a vessel.

The United States of America will be purchasing prisoners of war from all sides, at the price of $1,000 USD/prisoner.

The People’s Militia

Link to video.

Spoiler flag :
Libertarian_Socialist_Flag.svg

Ideology: Religious Democratic Socialism

Leader: Abu al-Fadl Abdulrashid, an Islamic Socialist medic turned underground journalist turn revolutionary leader due to the ever growing chasm of injustice by the “Most Just Society” that the Platonic Republic self-proclaims itself to be.

Other figures include…

Spoiler :
Abdul-Rahman Abujamel: an advertisement agency artist who now serves as chief of the People’s Militia’s media.

Ala al-Din Moghadam: an Islamic scholar from Shahhat. Serves as chief religious advisory of the People’s Militia.

Bahadir Tiryaki: an volunteer aspiring commander hailing from Turkey who left the Roman Empire due to his republican streak and feeling rather not at home there hence.

Cyrus Antonopoulos: an exiled member of the Productive Caste for speaking against the Caste System, this engineer provides the primal research (and tech stealing) efforts for the Revolutionaries.

Domitallia De Campo: Sardinian who rejected Platonic dominion of her isle. She serves in commanding the Militia’s economics and logistics.

Gryphon Maragos: hailing from Thesseloniki Gryphon was the second in command of the defenders, overseeing the defence of the fleeing civilians. Gryphon serves as a commander in the People’s Militia.

Harabolos Karim: Greek-Libyan spymaster for the People’s Militia. Has a shady past. May or may not have leaded the plot against General Toto. Cat mad.

Inas El-Ghazzaway: she was a councillor in Shahhat near Cyrene till the Platonics striped the city of its independence. Now she serves as a diplomatic head within the People’s Militia, yet she is also a armchair tactician.

Jamal Karimi: she serves as the prime diplomat of the People Militia, being a former shopkeeper in Benghazi.

Lisa Rojo: a French-Spanish revolutionary who had joined a foreign volunteer foco of the People’s Militia. VERY passionate about the Revolution. Proclaims to have been inspired by late 21st century political authors Abel Chaput and Susan Roux.

Mu’Tamid Saqqaf: ex-Protective Caste vice admiral, deflected in protest to the attack on Thesseloniki. Serves as the head of the People’s Militia’s naval activities.

Rayan Kattan: a former colonel of the Platonic Republic’s Artemis Rangers, who denounced his oath of loyalty to the Republic after the brutal crackdown by the Platonics in Libya during the hunt for the People’s Militia. Aiding his fellow Libyans as a guerrilla commander, often leading ex-Protective Caste members tired of fighting for the Platonic Republic. He cares not for ideology and he is contempt for civilian politics but he is passionate for ending the Platonic Republic.

Titus Christos: once a champion of the Protective Caste… till his return from the second disastrous clash with Japan, which leaded him to officially deflect to the People’s Militia. Also such military veteran is welcomed it is feared of how Christos’s hardliner militarism would go well and whether he may have had opportunist goals to seek the stronger side.

Usman Almasi: strategist and right hand of the more civil focused Abu al-Fadl Abdulrashid.

Zosima Pepi: she is an Thesseloniki exile who was an academic in international relations. Now serves as the People’s Militia chief recruitment officer.

Aim: to overthrow oppressive forces in the name of “the Emancipation Mission” with idea of a democratic socialist union as a backbone to such focus on “the Revolution.” Indeed many even proclaim themselves as agents of “the Final Epoch” and “the Coming of God’s Judgement upon the Oppressors.” The Platonic Republic is the most obvious of the “oppressive forces” which are targeted by the militant socialist group.

Military Doctrine: Guerrilla Militarism; the People’s Militia is in realization of its weaknesses. It is dealing with war industry, its counter existing only in local industries it can get its hands on and on arms dealers. Although popular among the Productive Caste its military numbers have to be kept in small units in order to avoid mass direct warfare. Yet its mobility can be set thanks to its combatants being able to blend in with normal civilians, while hit and run is a great tactic to annoy enemy logistics. The arts of the shadows, such as assassination, infiltration and sabotage, are hence part of the war doctrine. The rag tag armies of the revolutionaries relay on diversity as a way of adaptively; to win one must seek their enemies’ weakness. “Know your enemy and yourself” is a vital necessity to face against a stronger army.

Power to the People! Viva la Revolution!

Texarkana and Rome's betrayals will never be forgotten. Shame on both of you.

um? did you miss the part in which pretty much the entire Roman Military was wiped out, including the Emperor and the Constantinople?

there is no shame in accepting defeat when there's no possibility to win even a defensive war.

Rome would be a fool to accept such a petty offer.

honestly, i expected it to be a highly punitive treaty. extremely damaging for Rome. instead, we get a treaty where Japan is basically helping to fix the damage they caused. and, we already did.

I expected more from that song.

I know right. It was a disappointment for the name

We come to you with the wish that the workers in Crimea no longer suffer under monarchic rule. We demand that you hand over the Crimean Penninsula to us immediately. We note that many Romans have died in a recent defeat. No reason for more Roman blood to be spilled. We will not ask for anything else, but we will not ask again.
