Did you miss the part where Japan is tangled on three fronts and losing on two?

In which front does Japan lose? In sea, we have the superiority, in China, we are winning. Only in Vietnam you make minimal gains and only because you outnumber us. Not to say that your victories are Pyrrhic. So, in which fronts do you win?

The UAC is proud to announce that it has concluded treaties with various neighboring minor chiefs to ensure the peaceful accession of four new counties to the Confederacy in the coming months. Soldiers and police are slowly fanning out into the lawless portions of the new areas so as to forcibly disband possible bandit camps as well as to ensure that all laws are enforced.

The government has after much debate decided that the security of its people is of utmost importance, and so has passed a law mandating firearm ownership. To preserve personal liberties, a person is able to opt-out of ownership provided they can raise sufficient conscientious objection, such as religious belief. The government has passed counterpart bills to subsidize the purchase of firearms by less-affluent citizens as well as to provide for firearm safety training. Failure to take safety courses will result in fines, with the proceeds earmarked to provide aid to those injured by gun violence.

It is hoped that widespread firearm ownership will go a great deal to making violent criminals think twice about operating in the UAC. In addition, the mandatory training will go a long way towards helping citizens be more readily molded into militia in the event of national crises, an important positive in a dangerous world.

As a major producer of drugs (though we clarify that drugs are not our major export), we beseech the nations of the world to review their drug policies. In particular we advocate legalizing drugs for medicinal use so as to alleviate suffering, something that there is sure to be much of in many parts of the world as a result of the wars. If nothing else the UAC asks that nations consider creating special economic zones where drug laws will be more relaxed, thus garnering tax revenues for the host nation as well as for the UAC when it instructs merchants to deliver drugs to the area.

As a further note, the UAC requests the right to operate “leisure liners” in the world’s varying nations; these are luxury vessels that provide the many amenities the UAC is known for, but are closer to a local population, thus avoiding the need to travel to the UAC. These boats do not provide activities such as gaming until they have reached international waters, though they do pick up their passengers at port cities. As part of the arrangement, the host nation is entitled to a portion of the proceeds, while also not having to worry about any ill effects that might occur from having such activities hosted directly on the mainland. Please consider so that the UAC and yourself may both profit.

The government also notes that capital gains taxes have been lowered to 5%, one of the lowest rates in the world, while the first five years of capital gains taxes for real estate investment are waived. Foreign capital is welcome from wherever it may come from, as the UAC economy is steadily expanding and is hungry for financing so as to work on restoring alternative energy plants and vertical farms, not to mention the construction of resorts. With the passage of the new firearm law, the government is positive that investing in UAC’s gun manufacturing industry would be especially lucrative.

And it goes without saying you said in no uncertain terms you now view the regime you were partaking in a international mission against until recently as your ally. A 180 like that does not entitle to say what is and isn't proper diplomacy, nor to claim that calling your actions for what they are somehow makes us the International bad guy.

We did not state Japan to be an ally. We stated that Japan and Texarkana shared the same interest in seeing the Greek Caste State dismantled. We stated that we share Russia's concerns regarding violence in Greece and the emergence of the People's Militia as a threat to peace.

Ireland would do well to hire diplomats who can read statements issued about the Texark embassy in Ireland properly in order to avoid such confusion about Texark policy in the future.

Tensions with the UAR rises

Because of our decision to maintain the (theoretically ineffective) Embargo, the UAR promised... consequences. we do not know what they are, but it cannot be pleasant for us. but we will survive. for we are Roman.

the UAR must be careful with us.

On Advice from the Japanese tactician, the Anatolian Defensive line will be built, by specifically organized labor groups. they are told that if they (the UAR) declare war and overrun the Line, then the core of Anatolia and millions of people are at risk of their tender mercies. the Roman Empire would be wiped out, its people enslaved under Islamic rule. regardless if it is true or not, that got them working hard. the construction of the Justinianwill be hurried and will be in service next season. shipbuilding also increased their pace, often requiring huge shipments of materials from other nations.

The People's Militia oppose the Caste System imposed by the likes of Takis Papadakis. We are a agent of peace, set to liberate Greece, Libya, Sicily and Sardinia from Platonic rule.

Although we find Texarkana's apathy towards the cruel authoritarian government in Japan... distasteful we would welcome your support in our struggle against the Platonic regime, so that the nations it makes up can be set to a free future.

The fact you have declared yourselves a focused enemy of the UAR and have accepted Japanese military support concerns us greatly. That and we are opposed to your imperial monarchy. Still we focus on the Platonic Republic, while you fear Turkey getting freed from your imperial hands... if your out empire outlast the embargo which will dissolve your own empire. Either way the Turks will have their freedom.

we are only embargoing all nations actively at war aganst japan... the rest of the trade system functions normally. the turkish people form the backbone of the Roman Empire. in fact, they can revolt and form the Ottoman Empire if they so wished, but why woudl they do that? the greeks and Turkish form a unique blend of cultural-religious Romans. the ottoman Empire wouldn't, and marginalize the Greeks.

(OOC: still could do that.)

So Rome embargoes all nations in war with a warmongering power? You follow the same sense of "justice" as the Platonics.

The People Militia are tired of a imperial monarchy imposing its oppression. The Roman notion is not just the simple thing of oppressing, complete with a desire to crack down on political power of the Turks. We do not desire to see Roman or Ottoman Empires but Turks, Arabs, Greeks and Italians set in a socialist alliance, united not as nations but as peoples setting aside the state for the sake of the greater good.

Your monarchy is oppressive, as be your cultural marginalization of your populace. Hence should the UAR decide to free the Turks then we will aid the UAR if they agree to help our struggle against the Platonic Republic. We are willing to help the Turks liberate themselves.

We march towards the Revolution!

Congressman Jared Cruise did not feel at ease within the Texark military base on the southern frontier because it seemed a sign of things to come. When the war with Japan, which amounted to nothing ultimately, began, the Congress had approved the military measures put into action at Hannegan's request, including the raising of a host.

In theory, the host was supposed to be disbanded following the peace treaty, yet here he was on the base with the X Legion, one of the twenty-four "legions" organized from the hierarchical mess before Francis's latest reforms. Six Legions, sixty cohorts, six hundred centuries. Like a sword, they would thrust into Mexico and bring honor and wealth to Texarkana.

"Our military stopped being rabble a year ago, if you recall," Legate Jones said to Congressman Cruise. "Francis is a military man. He knew how to organize all of this. Lot better than doing things by the lump system."

The 'lump system' was the name given to the old system where units that could be ordered around directly or indirectly through generals were by mayor-state, with internal organization of each of the units up to the officers within the unit. Hannegan may had pushed through reform to get himself an army, but Francis is the one who organized that army.

And he knew how to use it.

"Something wrong?" Legate Jones asked.

"We haven't moved this many men at once since the Pact War. Back then, the entire Texark Legion numbered only 70,000 men. I am looking at merely a fourth of our total strength."

Yelps of excitement erupted from the camp, and engines roared to life. Six Legions. Three motorized. Two mechanized. One armored. There were several air cavalry cohorts scattered across the mechanized legions. The motorized legions would lug around the older artillery pieces, some dating back from the Pact War, while the mechanized legions would have the newer, the better, artillery pieces produced in Texark and American factories out north and east.

Legate Jones smiled. The old man, the old feeble man...he would die if he heard and felt the thunder of the B52 Packs escorted by fighters savaged, built, improved, and what-have-you over the last year. While Texark Air Power could not hope to achieve the precision of 2013 United States, or even 1990, the B52's would do the job.

How could they not when Mayor Francis would be in command?

The New Revolution: PostMortem
forward
PostMortem will essentially tell the story behind how the revolution from the Volgan Federation to the Russian Soviet Federation really happened.
The following occurred on October 28th, 2105.

It wasn't a particularly cold day in the capital of the Volgan Federation. In fact, Cesarina seemed to feel Tver actually looked nice today, despite being an industrial centre like most other cities in the Federation. But it was all a lie, and she was one of the only people in the city who knew it. Today was going to be a day of sorrow and a day of suffering, but it was going to be worth it. As war wages in Vietnam and Japan and terrorist strikes hit various European countries, conflict was about to find its way into Volga. Everything would go as planned, too.

Cesarina, like many others in the country, heard that elections were announced to commence almost immediately after President Vladimir Smirnoff stepped down for unknown reasons, but she knew it was much more complicated than that. She was a part of it. The parties scurried to find their representatives as this unexpected news came about. The Conservatives were especially rocked, seeing that Smirnoff was actually the leader of the party. Luckily, or so they thought, they found a suitable replacement. He was due to speak on this very day. In fact, the young and aspiring Matvei Popov started speaking and he wasn't half bad. The broad-jawed man probably would've been Smirnoff's successor, if not for what Cesarina was about to do.

She stood at a balcony in an average hotel room, her red hair starting to grow back in enough to actually flow in the wind. Her face was so small and pristine to almost look delicate. Almost. Not a block down the road below was the Conservative Square, where Conservatives traditionally hold their campaign speeches and events. She looked on at the city she was born in. The Volgan Federation was doing alright for itself at large, she could admit. She would miss the peaceful air, but sadly she was not born in this world to live in peace.

The President was going in the right direction with the creation of the expansive dam systems, but it was facing opposition. The Conservatives allowing for state construction was a huge stretch, and it wasn’t long before the President stepped down that the program was slated to be handed off to a newly-founded private corporation backed by a foreigner from some country in North America. There are millions of dollars in profit to be made, and it would be at the expense of the nation. If the liberals won, it was going to be even worse. The Volgan Federation, and by extension all of Russia, would be due to stay a technological backwater with a struggling people forever if this were allowed to happen.

That is why, as Matvei Popov began his speech, Cesarina held a certain fist-sized device tight. With every word, her thumb inched closer to what could be assumed as a trigger cap. It popped open as the crowd clapped and cheered. She squeezed a red button down for several seconds. It beeped three times in succession over the course of a single second. That was the moment when Cesarina burned Tver.

A vortex of fire, blackness, and debris flooded the Conservative Square as Matvei Popov spoke his last. From her view, Cesarina could tell that everybody on the stage was dead and it was obvious that those directly in front of it were nothing but ashes too. Screams erupted in the square as law enforcement arrived on the scene. Hundreds were probably injured from the hysteria alone.

She knew it had to be done, or at least wholeheartedly believed it did, but from the look of her face she detested the act. She walked from her balcony towards her small refrigerator, eyes looking as if to cry but face no longer showing any sign of weakness. Inside was half an armory of weapons far more modern than any regular of the army was equipped with and a lone bottle of vodka.

She looked at me, the Chronicler, looking as if to ask that I wanted a drink. I reminded her of regulation. She shrug and drank. I reminded her of the time. She nodded and put on what could be described as full-body armor. It couldn’t be told what her identity was anymore. I was already suited up. We grabbed suppressed semi-automatic rifles from the refrigerator. They were a safety measure in case we were seen.

It was time to leave Tver without a trace. We exited the building which had been emptied in its entirety. We traveled underground. Everything went smoothly from there. When we got to the extraction point outside the city, she told me she’d never be able to come back. These were the first and last words I’ve heard her spoke. We left the capital in two different trucks, and I wouldn't see Cesarina again for several months - until the day I was ordered to make sure she was never seen again.

I should like to post a new Empire. I hope to update it. I'll begin anyways.
But enough introducing. Lo! Open your eyes and gaze upon the new
OCEANIC EMPIRE
Onwards with Territories:
As I thought that Oceanic islands were tiny I counted them as half like it says in the 1st post. However, I did count New Caledony and Hawaii as an entire claim. So there are in total 14 bits of land.

Flag:

A bit crappy, but inspired in most amazing flag of Greenland. Sea, sky, sun and island, with four white stars because many oceanic island states have something similar.

EDIT: Now that I see, they are a bit difficult to see. Sorry about that.

Spoiler :

Capital: Nauru

Religion: Traditional

History:

From centuries, polynesian, melanesian, micronesian and other pacific people were left out of high councils and important nations, as they lived in the very outskirts of the world and were always kinda poor and miserable. But many people always have underestimated them and knew nothing of the great advancements of the great empires, like the Samoan, that once dominated this entire ocean.
Now, after the cataclysm that shook the world they are readier than ever to finally take a position of dominance on the seas of the world, for they were nearly untouched while entire civilizations and states collapsed and crumbled around them.
A Nauruan chief, Kamehameha, his name honored by the great and fierce king who in 1810 united all of Hawaii, has been able, over the past years, to unite, militarily and diplomatically nearly all of the pacific islands.
But his objective is far more broader. With an extensive population that nearly collapses the production capacity of these islands, he seeks expansion through uninhabited zones and proclaims his benevolent desire to all good nations to act, with the use of his invincible naval force consistent of modern enormous catamarans, inspired in the mighty ships of old, to drive commerce, stability and prosperity to all the world so that all humanity can recover from the huge disaster and enter a second golden age.

The new state offers shipments of tones of Gardenia Taitensis to every nation on earth to honor our new friendship and demonstrate our desire of a prosper and peaceful earth.

EDIT: MORE HISTORY:

A bit of lore on Oceania, responding to the question of the very origins of our proud nation:

The beginnings of this story go past until before the cataclysm, where an event happened that altered the course of this nation.
The doom was near, and all the major occidental governments made several plans to protect everything possible.
One of those plans regarded the safekeeping of all the major works of art of humanity for future generations. Several worldwide organizations worked jointly in this massive super secret project, such as the NATO, the Commonwealth and some other nations of the G-20.
All these works of art would be stored in a secret place that nearly no one would knew it existed.
And the choice was Nauru. The tiny island nation, with an incredible history that nearly everyone in this thread knows about I think, was chosen because of a decent infrastructure network, remoteness, and a crippled environment within the island, perfect to invest massively on huge storehouses and give employment to a population with no work, as the guano exploits were depleted.
The operation was a success. Giant buildings arose in the island, and thousands of paintings, sculptures, original manuscripts and a long etc. were, in a massive operation, seized one night and in one the most complex logistical challenges by humanity, transported to the island.
Of course, the population didn't receive this news well but the path to war was already set and everybody knew it. The location remained secret and many stories put it in a cave in Montana, in the very unreachable depths of Siberia, Greenland or Yukon, or even in the midst of the Saharan desert or in the Showa scientific station in the Antarctica.
Then, during and after the great cataclysmic wars, although many topics were more important, rumors placed the new el dorado of the arts in a pacific island: Kirakira, in the Salomon Islands, or Nauru. Nauruan inhabitants were obliged to remain completely silent in exchange of considerable subsidies by the Australian government, and a secret department that supervised the island very closely.
But then, as the ashes of war perched on the ground and a new horizon of peace and ruin began to loom in the watery horizon of the Nauruans, they seized opportunity swiftly, declared total independence of any external power and began commercializing these works of art to private companies and collections, rich men and countries in a most underground fashion, binding themselves in a web of mist. Of course, they sold each piece to an incredible price that led to the world's maybe most massive infrastructure project ever seen:

Nauru in the year 2010, some decades before the cataclysmic wars:

View attachment 369862 Same: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=13053730&postcount=1372

With all the new cash the island transformed itself in massive harbor fortress. A dike would be constructed all around the island, the reef would be lowered so that great ships could pass, hundreds of anti-air and anti-sea modern artillery, along with fleets of helicopter,s were disposed in bases around the dike. Harbors were created, carving in the earth and filling the water, a great aircraft base was constructed, although it until now is never been capable of being fully operational as planned, due to prioritization of the fleet in the army's budget (80% normally), and the island began to specialize in commerce around the world and ship making industry. Just after the great war Nauru profited from the crippling nation that would later finish to disappear by buying thousands of tones of source and construction materials at a risible price, but keep buying in order not to deplete the reserves in a long time.
Nauru specialized in all ships that are in shape and form of catamarans, double deckers. Many engineers specialize their knowledge on this type of ship making. The workforce was brought from all the corners of the world: Intellectuals, dissidents, immigrants… Thousands and more came here to survive the slaughter. In exchange for living in Nauru they would work 6 hours a day for food, a quasi unpaid force, would learn nauruan language, and agree that their children would be nauruan only and would renounce the nationality of their fathers.
Nauru, as the most important faction in the region, always in the last 50 years took the lead in the political field of Oceania and just now nearly every island here has been finally fully integrated to the Kingdom. Stretching from Hawaii to the borders of Papua New Guinea and the Easter Island, now officially RapaNui, the nation is firmly reigned by the benevolent king Kamehameha, although he only has nominal and representative authority, as declared in the new Constitution of 2089. Each island has a high level of auto governance, and many citizens look to the realization of a pseudo realization of the Utopia island of Thomas Moore, although it is known that the book was written as a subtle satire and the author knew that a society like that is not feasible.
Now, Nauruan fleet is among the highest of the world, because apart from all the high class ships that it has at its command, a significant portion of the population owns ships as someone would own a car, and patriotic citizens are more than willing to help with their ships against an enemy And our nations has over 10 million inhabitants, so that quite a lot of ships. On the contrary, ground army is not extended and researched at all, consisting military doctrines on amphibious assault and defense. The air army is indeed better than the ground one.
The pacific state will not sleep now onwards, being this time the key years of the beginning of a new era. Our country pleads for the survival, rights, and power for the indigenous parts of the world that still survive.

eduhum, are you aware that you're starting right next to a developed nation already allied with two of the most powerful nations in the world? Not to mention your starting claims conflict with someone else who is joining too. :p

Poland would publicly like to declare that everything is going wonderfully and they aren't on the verge of a civil war at all...

(OOC: i wanted to go down a different route in history..)

the Petition of independence

today, after he entered the white palace, and started working in his office overlooking the Bosporus, he come a across a petition right there in the 'in' box.

Petition of Independence said:
We, the people of Bulgarian, Kurdish, Cypriot, Russian, and Hellenist-greek cultures hereby request independence from the Roman Empire of the following regions:

Bulgaria: Bulgaria itself, and Komotini province
Rhodes: Rhodes itself.
Cyprus: North and south Cyprus.
Kurdistan: Southeastern and Eastern Anatolia
Criema: Crimea itself, as well as Sevastopol

when this petition reaches the Emperor eyes, summon the leaders of the above provinces. we realize you cannot grant this petition without discussing it first.

the Emperor Sighed. he knew that this was coming. the defeat at Taiwan, the peace treaty, the short scandal with the UAR, they must have affected these people. he phoned the senate, currently in a meeting debating what 'Civilian goods' are, and asked for the ministers in charge all the mentioned provinces.

When they all came to his office, this meeting took place:
Spoiler short conversation. not *that* important. :

Bulgarian minister: ah, Emperor Theodoros, I take it you saw the Petition?

Emperor: indeed i did. you want to tell me what this is about?

Kurdish minister: thats just it. we want independence from the Roman Empire. i know you may think that this is the result of the Failure of Taiwan, or the aftermath. it is not about that, at all.

Emperor: really? the fact that we lost most of our military and navy to Japan in a foolhardy invasion doesnt affect things at all?

Kurdish minister: it doesn't, despite the fact that that all of the provinces lost something. we all agreed that the invasion was necessary to try and cut off japan. we failed badly, so we had to retreat. and, besides, its kind of a bad move to leave the Empire for that.

Emperor: well... your show of loyalty is impressive. but, what harm could this do to the Roman Empire?

Kurdish minister: we calculated that you will lose 3 million people, about 10% of the industry, and very little else, since we arent heartless so as to not trade with the Empire.

Emperor: somewhat less than i expected... well, finally, do you have a reason for these:

Bulgarian minister: indeed we do Emperor. it's right over there

at that, the Emperor was handed a list of Grievances:

1. the utter domination of Greco-turkish culture. they number around 17 million people, while the others barely number 3 million total. this affected the representation, and no matter how hard Emperor Andreas and Emperor Theodoros did, they felt... marginalized. unimportant within the Empire.
2. the Absolute monarchy system was disagreeable to the majority of the minor ethnic groups. the Emperor holds the power. he alone can declare war. he alone can mobilize. he alone decides Policy, and so on. obviously, we feel that it isn't the best system.

Spoiler :
Emperor: only two reasons?

Cypriot Minister: you have to admit, these two reasons carry so much weight it might have been two hundred.

Emperor: that may be so, but... why didn't you try to address the second concern? i know we cant do anything about the first, but the second is fixable.

Bulgarian minister: we considered it, and even polled some of the Greco-turkish people of this question. we found out that these people are almost universally in favor of the monarchy. thus, we thought that any change, against a huge opposition, would fail almost immediately.

Emperor: as i expected. well, gentlemen, i am inclined to accept this petition, but it cannot be done right away, you understand.

Russian minister: of course sir, we expect it to be done in three months minimum. and, as a show of good faith, all of us has agreed to be allied to the Roman Empire, when Independence is finally granted.

Emperor: thank you. your kindness and honesty, as well as respect for the Lawful ways will be remembered.

Emperor Theodoros I of the Roman Empire has granted the petition, and allowed the above nations to declare independence. this map has been brought to world to see:

all of the independent nations will be allied with Rome, with free trade treaties in place.

(OOC2: im sorry if this all seems sloppy or unprofessional. this is my first ever try at this kind of RP.)

Spoiler late response... set for post 1072, not 1077 :
are you serious? i just told you that all ethnic groups enjoy full rights and privileges as everyone else. we can have a Tartar for a flipping Emperor, even.

and... well, the world does not work that way. if it did, there wouldn't be nations. there are nations, therefore, a central authority is always needed.

Also... we are releasing the Embargo, against the UAR only, for civilian goods. no military goods will be given to them.

this was done because the embargo was severe enough for the UAR to be concerned about civilian lives affected by it.

it is already open.

So here it is... the Romans declare war on the People's Militia, hence waring in support of the Platonic Republic... I hope Texankana realists hence that the Romans have laid their backing to the oppressors of Greece, Libya, Sardinia and Sicily. Along with their cultural antagonism towards the UAR which reeks the illness of xenophobia must we also attend to its ever signs as a oppressor.

As for your central authority; are you questioning our comment dissing the monarchy? Because you have proven the illness that is your oppression. You speak of our desire to go post-state? Then you react against the future, where you linger to the slavery of an slaver society, just as you ally with a slaver society that is the Platonic Republic... if you may have remembered their "prison" system which classes political opposition as criminals and hence slaves.

We fight against slavery and oppression. If that makes us the same as the Platonics to you... then I guess there is one thing we can agree with the Platonics on; Rome needs a educational system to be established, for even its elites are unable to read facts. May we request support from the UAR and other powers opposing to Platonic republicanism, imperialism and fascism to aid our struggle for the liberation of the peoples that the Platonic Republic oppress and the Roman Emperor would want to see suppressed.

In the end the Roman Emperor takes the road to his execution; such is the path to those who oppose the Final Epoch.

OOC: err Math... I did not design the Platonics to be... a elective society as it were, as you might have guessed by the "few" times it denounced democratic governments for being "the worst."

Edit: regard this as a response kept for the reaction late to what was...

Hey guys, do you know what this means?

It means I'm in charge of the greatest and most just Republic ever.

JUSTICE!

I hope Texankana realists hence that the Romans have laid their backing to the oppressors of Greece, Libya, Sardinia and Sicily. Along with their cultural antagonism towards the UAR which reeks the illness of xenophobia must we also attend to its ever signs as a oppressor.

Vae victo.
