The New Guinea Crisis is Resolved:
Yesterday, Prime Minister David Walker was able to meet with Oceanic leaders to discuss the current situation regarding both countries claims in and around the Soloman islands and Papau New Guinea. With Oceania giving up its plans to bring the Island of Manus, The D'entrecasteaux Islands, and the Louisiade Archipelago. In Exchange Australia reasured the Oceanic nation that it had no intentions of taking the Soloman islands other than Bougainville which is already part of the Greater Australian Nation. However the issue of Oceania's breach of Australia's national Sovereignty and Territorial integrity was dealt with a couple of days ago, allowing for these talks to ultimately take place. With the Oceanic government officially apologizing for their breach of Australian Sovereignty it looks like Oceanic and Australian relations will be reaching a new high, hopefully it will stay this way. Australia Daily will continue to feature updates on Australian and Oceanic relations as they develop.

Thorium Reactors for Australia
This morning Prime Minister David Walker announced Australia's plans to begin funding for Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors and increased Thorium mining operations. Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors or LFTR are an improvement over regular Nuclear reactors for multiple reasons. First and foremost Thorium is an extremely abundant compared to Uranium, especially in Australia which has 19% of the worlds Thorium deposits. In addition to using a far more abundant material LFTR don't have to operate at high pressure and is far more efficient than Uranium. Over all Thorium is safer because of the way Thorium reactors are built and run. Perhaps the best advantage of LFTR is that the waste is very difficult to make weapons.

Because of the advantages LFTR has with energy production, and how abundant Thorium is in Australia this probably doesn't come as a surprise. The government has begun work on the first LFTR and will continue to build and operate reactors until they will provide the sole source of electricity for the nation, replacing much older and outdated fossil fuels. Research is also being done to make smaller reactors for use in the Australian Navy

Australian Naval Expansion
Because of the Papau New Guinea crisis it has become greatly obvious that the Australian navy is outdated, and needs improvement. The Government has announced that the old Australian navy, based mostly on old 21st century designs and ships will be scraped in exchange for a newer, more advanced navy that fits to Australia's military doctrine of Rapid Response and Surgical Strikes closer than the previous navy. While were unable to get any more information regarding the new Australian navy and her ship classes, we can assume that the navy will over include cheaper and smaller ships built for a specific task.

Election Time
This year the Republic of Greater Australia and New Zealand will be holding elections for their Respective Parliaments. As usual the elections will take place in September. The citizens of Greater Australia vote for the politicians they want to represent them in the Australian Parliament, while the Citizens of New Zealand vote for the politicians they want to represent them in their parliament. Albania joins the Roman Empire!

Albania has been an organized government for several years, and has just made its wishes known. it wants to be annexed into the Roman Empire.

the Emperor was surprised that they would join the Empire, instead of austria, Greece, or even remain independent.

the Albanians said that the Austrians are good people, but they administrate a huge territory relative to its native ethnic group, and it spells trouble for them. evidently, they knew the germans were a minority in their own nation. they did not want to join Greece and become close to Russia, a communist nation. they do not think they would be free under Greek rule. and, they arent anywhere near strong enough to be independent.

so, the Emperor granted the Albanian petition, and Albania is now officially part of the Roman Empire.

"-and while government officials have accepted Rome's annexation of Albania, the stinging comments made by the Albanian president is not likely to be forgotten. Niklaus Huber, BNN Deutchland."

"Thanks for the story, Niklaus. Speaking of international affairs, the big talk of the night is the official state dinner going on right now. With dignitaries flown in from most countries around the world for the ritzy affair, it is turning out to be a truly illustrious evening and surely a momentous occasion for our young Kaiserin. For more on the subject, we're going to turn the show over to our celebrity news correspondents Ulrich Fox and Tanya Gabler."

"Thanks Diane. Me and Fox are live on the scene, and we can confirm that this is indeed a ritzy affair, as you put it."

"I'll say. We're trying to get a copy of the official menu, but we can tell from here, the courses offered this evening looked very high-class indeed. The chefs in charge certainly didn't take any shortcuts with the food tonight."

"We've even heard rumors that seafood was one of the courses being offered. Artificially farmed of course, but still really classy stuff. Makes you want to take over a small country just to try some."

"Don't say that too loudly Tanya, you don't want to make anyone nervous. Lots of small countries out there that enjoyed the lobster."

"Anyone worth mentioning, guys?"

"No shortage of famous faces here tonight, Diane. The big one a moment ago was the last-minute arrival Sylvia Svetta, Foreign Minister of Indonesia, who showed up with a fully-grown komodo dragon for the Kaiserin."

"Wow, that's certainly impressive!"

"You said it Diane. It's being delivered to the city zoo for the public to enjoy, but it's still an impressive gift from the Indonesian people. Those creatures are rare nowadays, and for the Foreign Minister to march one up the aisle like that is certainly a show stopper."

"On the other side of the room, we have Australia's "favorite couple", Ambassador William Smith and his wife Anna. They're a big political family in their home state, so it's no wonder seeing them here. Sadly their daughter is a Senator and couldn't find the time to come, but it seems like there's no shortage of company here."

"That's right Fox, the Ambassador is getting along very well with the Oceanic representative. No doubt the result of the landmark settlement reached between the two countries, Hopefully it's a sign of things to come, and it certainly looks good for the Kaiserin to have these two former enemies appearing as friends here."

"Speaking of which, any news on the Kaiserin herself?"

"Well, sadly it seems that Kaiserin Claudia needed to head out early tonight. No word why, but she did complain of lightheadedness before she departed."

"Can't really blame her for that. It's not exactly a cool, refreshing night, and the fabrics in that outfit of hers don't breath."

"I'm not so sure about that Tanya. From what I hear, our country's most eligible bachelorette was getting attention from the Roman guest tonight, Representative Makarios. I'd say that the affection wasn't returned and the Kaiserin wanted to make a hasty retreat."

"I'll trade with her any day. Looks, brains, and more than enough money? The guy is every woman's dream, what girl wouldn't want that?"

"The Kaiserin, for starters. Besides, from what I've heard the guy gets around. A modern Casanova, if you will. Right now I'm sure she's glad she doesn't have to deal with the heartbreak..."

---

"What a load of trash," Hans Nørup muttered, scowling at the two newsmen gossiping about the state dinner like a bunch of children. "What smart woman would go for a man-whore like that?" After a few more comments from the talking heads, the news report then cut to a video feed of the Makarios character chatting with the Australian diplomat's wife. Revulsion mixed with jealousy when he pictured Claudia in the other woman's place, laughing at the man's dumb jokes and being swept away by his dashing good looks.

Hans bitterly resumed flipping through the channels on his new TV before settling on an old American-made action movie. All thoughts of the state dinner and the Roman off of his mind, he began to relax before his cell phone buzzed in his pocket. He answered it, repressing his urge to pitch the thing through the open window.

"It's Hans, what's-"

"Get your ass to Vienna General, now!" Thorsten shouted at the other end. "Claudia collapsed when she left the state dinner and went into convulsions."

The connection broke as the phone fell to the ground. Hans was out the door a second later. Several miles away, Thorsten held on for dear life as the ambulance charged through the city streets. Shaking with fear, he tried to remain strong as the paramedics swarmed around Claudia's pale, limp form. One demanded a defibrillator as he began tearing open the front of the saccharine yellow dress...

"Well Tanya, in the end we can all agree this was a night to end all nights..."

It is expected that soon the economy of Thailand will boom.

The soldier looked at the line of POW's being marched in front of him. That news camera's rolling, behave, behave.
"And as you can see, Todd, our troops are doing a great job in their intervention in the UAC. The government is reorganizing its optimistic estimate to the end of the year, but does not expect initial successes to continue as well as the UAC can prepare."
Presumably now would be some incoherent muttering from the Studio in St. Joan.
"Yes, well, the POW's will be sent to the detainment areas in Lefini. They will presumably remain there until the end of the war."
Incoherent muttering. Smile, Joseph, smile. Would his mother be watching? Would she see him there? Would she be proud?
"That information has unfortunately been classified by the Rhodesian government. This was Muriel Shaw, reporting from Loubomo."
The column of prisoners marched on into the rain.

The PAU will be instituting a total quarantine of any and all cities/towns with infected individuals in it. People seen leaving quarantined towns without authorization will be shot on sight by military police units. Food, water, clothing, medicine will be airdropped into infected townships. International aid, workers, observers, and doctors are permitted entry at their own risk.

Another stupid Roman move. You give reason for Russia to be aggressive against you. Just allow them to stay in the naval base. It is clear that they will not target Rome, but either Jeho or Georgia. And even if they target you, they will have no proper cassus belli. I am 100% sure that Russia will use this mistake to force Rome to give up either territory or give them another naval base.

“My fellow Americans. I welcome you to the Saint Louis conference; my name is Andrew Alonzo, and I will be the host of this evenings events.

“It is with great happiness that I report American success on every front; American troops advance everyday in the North, utilizing superior American weaponry and training, to push the illegal Northwestern State out of American territory. American industries make great advances everyday, and our economy continues to wrap its tendrils around every facet of the world economy.

“Our friends in Argentina, our comrades in Russia, and our partners in nearly every nation in the globe have put us into a position of great power. But, we are still divided. Still not a true, perfect union, that we are destined to be. PAU West and PAU East governments are still ruled from Arkansas and Massachusetts, despite the capital officially existing here, in St. Louis. This is a state of affairs that cannot continue. A house divided cannot possibly stand, and a union divided into two parts is not a true union.

“You all, delegates from every state and province of the two halves of our union, have been called here to decide on one thing; centralization or decentralization? Our forefathers, in the 18th century, faced a similar issue, when creating the Constitution that led our ancestral state for hundreds of years. On the agenda today, you must cast a ballot to decide the fate of our Union of States. Integration into one, powerful, centralized, democratic state, to rule over and administer the Americas and her peoples in perpetuity, or remain broken and divided, waiting for a foreign power to take America away from the Americans? You must decide. Long live our Union, long live the American people!”

Mr. Alonzo, his cheeks flustered with excitement, stepped away from his podium, as the delegates below began to cast their votes.

OOC: Apologies for double post

Bangkok-St. Louis Customs Union

In the interest of promoting free and unobstructed trade between our nations, and in further strengthening both of our economies, the Pan-American Union and Thailand have signed an agreement to lower import duties on goods from both nations. It is hoped that this agreement will strengthen and warm relations between Thailand and the PAU, and maintain those warm relations for many long and prosperous years.

Roman Foreign policy change

Emperor Theodoros, after some thought, wanted to change the foreign policy a little...

1. we will stay out of the "Russian Civil War" and be neutral about it. we wash our hands of the affair.

2. the defensive pact with the PAU is canceled, as they are too far away, and in a war, for it to be of any use. however, investment from them without any political gain from said investment is welcome.

the Emperor believes that Romes future is best served in the German Economic Sphere. therefore... we offer Germany the following:

1. a free trade pact between our two nations.

2. German investment in the Roman Economy, particularly its mineral riches.

3. a Defensive pact, to protect Rome and Germany from its enemies.

Germany accepts all terms proposed by the Roman government. May the agreement lead to greater cooperation between our two nations!
