Imperium Offtopicum XIX

Going to get rid of Korea because I'm really not ready to fight people before the game has even started.

We already have several nations nearly boxed ^^.
Columbia, Belgium and Japan are already pretty limited in the expansion
Thats gonna be funny, while Africa and South America are still pretty empty.

Esspecially Belgium is in a bad situation.
If the Germany and the French take Rhineland-Palatina (yay home region) and Lorraine, then Belgiums completly sorrounded.

As usual we have Reus in here acting the goat

Greetings all,

I hope you've enjoyed or are enjoying making your sign up, but as we all know that's not what we're here for. We're here for the game to actually begin!
This will happen on Wednesday!

From now on updates will all be on a Wednesday (with the exception of the next two Wednesday's because I will be away, those updates will be at the weekends). Updates should be weekly to keep the pace face and life upbeat.

I'm just letting you all know this because Wednesday is when the game will go up so if you feel the need to add more to your sign up (I think most people are fine though) then you only have 3 days to do it!

Good luck, and I hope we all enjoy the game.

robert I have a very serious question

how are you so adorable

Through hard work and weekly updates

>>>PRE-UPDATE UPDATE<<<

The UN won't be fully in place come Wednesday, but anyone that wants an early run-down can read the official Charter at your leisure, since it is the primary basis for what we'll be using. As part of its operation we will be implementing a ten-member Security Council comprising two states from every continent elected to two-year (eight-turn) terms. However, this will be staggered such that half the members are elected each year. In order to keep parity the initial Security Council will have five full-term members and five half-term members, after which annual elections will be for full-term positions.

Who they are is up to you. Everyone gets two votes per region; you can nominate yourself but you cannot vote for the same candidate twice. When accepting a nomination, please specify whether you prefer a full- or half-term post. Bear in mind that while a successful application to the Security Council brings both national and diplomatic prestige, your performance therein will be scrutinized and you will be expected to do more than table all the juicy security resolutions. With the exception of Double A who's a member by default since South America only has two nations, serious applicants only.

When the game is up and running, Security Council nominations will occur through the same voting procedure as resolutions, so this is the only time a direct vote for individual candidates will be used. Note also that with the conditional exception of South America, a member state cannot be elected to a second consecutive term, so pick your fulls and halves wisely.

I reserve the right to break a tie based on who I feel is better-suited to the role. If both regional candidates opt for the same term and do not otherwise negotiate, I will make the choice.

It should need no reminder that by participating in this election, you confirm that you are starting the game as a UN Member State.

Some questions about the UN.

Will re-election be limited to the region? If so, won't that mean that the South American nations basically get to stay on the UNSC forever?

Will everyone be able to vote in each region? So will I be able to vote in elections outside of Asia? Also will the vote for the initial security council be a simple first past the post system or something more complex? And is there a limit to the amount of people we can nominate?

OOC: Considering there are less eligible states in North and South America combined than there are in Europe or Asia alone, wouldn't it be reasonable to have just one America region? Just a thought I had.

For the good of protecting the world the U.S.E.D/S.U.D.S would wish to apply for Security Council membership as a means to allow our duty as peacekeepers. We will also aim to promote international agreements, especially on issues of human rights, the environment and democracy building. The UN is a tool for greater freedom, happiness and peace for humanity; we intent to ensure this tool is not mismanaged nor neglected.

To make an even 10 on top of this (smart) suggestion, you could add 2 like special member states that rotated with each vote but were not limited by continent

The Commonwealth of Australia would like to apply to be a part of the United Nations Security Council. While we would prefer to have a full-term seat, we would be willing to negotiate for a half-term seat.

I'm sorry for going back and out and in with different nations, but I swear this is for the last time: I rejoin as the Republic of Catalonia. Down with the monarchists and other, non-liberal elements!

The official stipulation in the (pending) Charter is equal representation by region, although how said regions are defined is of course malleable by the General Assembly. I'm hoping once it launches there might be more takers in SA, but barring a player resolution I can of course invoke GM fiat.

Two votes per region, so ten votes per player total. I was originally going to have this done all in one (because Tani's system always felt weird to me), but if we end up with too many "lol me"s then I'll probably do at least a second round to build consensus.
