In Progress Now! Aztec!

No. he never posted anything. Just previews. I'm still using the ones I made myself. They'll have to do for the moment.

:woohoo:

Good to see this isn't dead. :)

I was at Ethnologisches Museum in Berlin today, and saw alot of neat Mesoamerican artefacts - don't miss it if you ever go to Berlin! They even had some original Aztec atlatls in wood, which I thought was quite cool - can't be a lot left in existence after 500 yrs. Yeah, and I found out I've got the Copán River all wrong on my Maya scen map - I'll have to fix that as soon as I get home!

One thingajiggit that left me wondering was a huge stone knife; it was allegedly used as a weapon, but with a length of ~40cm and a maximal thickness of 3-4cm, it seems impractically large and heavy, and the rounded back end would seem to guarantee that any grip would be a pretty ramshackle affair.

No. He's just in Germany this week. Although I don't know where he's from so maybe he's a German ex-pat!
That stone knife is interesting though.

i don't know. I'd say the award for 'Most Transparently NOT Neutral Government' would have to go to my sweet emerald isle. Everyday there are more active US servicemen in Shannon Airport than in most army bases on US soil!

Back on topic. I'm hoping to post the first version of the mod in a week or so but it will be just the first era as I still have not managed to overcome some difficulties. Maybe posting might generate some solutions.

I will give it a try when you post it, seems a good idea, for seeing how the things were before we spanish went there for doing all that bad things.

Err? There certainly where Maya cities around in the timeframe of the rise and fall of the Aztec empire!

Certainly, the old Classic centres of the Southern Lowlands were abandoned by this time (exception: Lamanai), but there were plenty of new cities around - examples include Mayapan in the north, Canpech (now the Mexican city of Campeche) on the Gulf coast, Tayasal not far from the ruins of Tikal, and Iximché in the highlands.

That's a subject that could fill whole books ... and indeed quite a few have been written. If you want a thorough treatment of the subject, I recommend Webster's The Fall of the Ancient Maya.

However, very briefly, some were abandoned because they were stormed and sacked by enemies (eg. Dos Pilas), while others seems to've been abandoned because intensive agriculture led to deforestation and erosion around them, which eventually rendered them impossible to supply with food (eg. Tikal, Copán).
