In a state of confusion
what are the most important issues in the 08 Presidential election?
I chose immigration, the economy, and the wars

Immigration because the legal immigrants go through a fair, but long and tedious process to enter the country, while illegals come and steal jobs. This takes jobs from legal immigrants and hard working Americans.

The Economy for obvious reasons.

The Wars because it is costing us tons of money, the Iraqis don't want us there anymore, and Iraq gets to make huge oil profits while we fund the rebuilding of their infrastructure.

let me know if I forgot something

VOTE NOW!!!:goodjob:

THE ECONOMY!

HEALTH CARE!

EDUCATION!

The rest, who cares that much.

The Republican party losing.

I don't know how anyone can NOT vote for Energy & Environment. Barack Obama said this was the No. 1 issue and I thought most people here supported him.

Without Energy & Environment, NO economy.

Just having competent leadership.

energy and the environment FTW

everything else is far distant second (& all depend on the above)

claiming anything above energy and the environment is putting the cart before the horse.

Patriotism.

definitely links to unpopular figures

I should probably make it known right here and now that I have abandoned the conventional practice of judging the candidates based on where they stand on the issues. I support Obama, and I don't support McCain, not because of their politics, but exclusively because of their character. So likability is all that matters to me anymore. Let me break it down for you:

1. I support Obama because he is the Funky President.
2. I support Obama because he's a black guy.
3. I support Obama because he's young.
4. I support Obama because he speaks well.
5. I support Obama because of his message of hope and change.
6. I support Obama because his VP is a wise guy.

1. I do not support McCain because he's an old man.
2. I do not support McCain because he's a white guy.
3. I do not support McCain because his VP seems better suited to run the PTA rather than the United States.
4. I do not support McCain because he's bald.
5. I do not support McCain because his VP talks like Madge Gunderson from Fargo.
6. I do not support McCain because I think he'll conk dead in the first week.

That's pretty much it. You can take your facts, voting records, shady go-betweens, right and reason, and shove it up your campaign asses. What's most important to me is likability and charisma.

Energy & Environment. This is one of the biggest reasons to vote for Democrats this November. Some Republicans like McCain are starting to get the hint, but most still favor an agenda that does little to increase renewable energy and protect the environment.

The Republicans are a peckish looking moldy green and the Democrats are deep forest green.

Sorry to hear about your upcoming sadness. :(

Maybe, but I'm optimistic. I actually think it's gonna be McCain in a landslide.

I just don't think this country is ready to put an African-American in the position of President, especially not when he is so inexperienced and so radically socialist...

Anyone who would normally vote Democrat but doesn't vote for Obama, just because he's part African-American, has to be out of their freaking minds.

I don't know about all that. They're both filthy & unrealistic but the Crats are less filthy.

You are not presently entitled to that opinion any more than you are entitled to believe that gravity is optional, and I expect your optimism to have an equally significant effect in either case. (Unless, of course, you have access to extremely volatile insider information concerning as yet undiscovered and horrific skeletons in Obama's closet or the like.)

FiveThirtyEight is currently predicting Obama 351, McCain 187.
Electoral-vote: 346 to 181. (If McCain wins everything that's "Barely DEM" and "Exactly tied" and all the REP-leaning states, it's still only 282 to 256.)
Election Projection: 369 to 169.
Intrade's odds for Democratic electoral college votes hit 50% around 335 - higher odds for fewer votes, and vice versa. (I can't get the REVP on the front page to run for me. Anyone else?)
Even RealClearPolitics with its high toss-up count of 103 is saying Obama 277, McCain 158. McCain would have to win every single toss-up and then some to win the election.

I had to pick "The Economy, stupid," even though it's a James Carville quote. This is a big crisis, and I want someone in there who understands the application of economics to real-world situations, and who will be willing to create an America that's more fair to all Americans. From my viewpoint, that's Obama.

A few weeks ago, I would have said foreign policy.

I'm amazed that the environment is beating out the economy when we can't afford research for alternative energy with an economy on crack. The environment was my 4th choice, but I didn't want to post ALL of the reasons why it's important (you would fall asleep halfway through)
