Ill just to a brief explanation of my username and user title here.

Gucumatz (various spellings exist) is the Quiche name for the god Kukulkan.

My user title: Maximon, is considered sort of a protector of the highland peoples in Guatemala. He is basically Saint Judas and has various shrines across southern Guatemala.

So I found this website which is extremely helpful: http://tinypng.org/

I already have a program (ImageOptim) which compresses png files and preserves transparency, but it is usually only 5-25% effective. This one dropped both the files I wanted 70-75%

Transparency is amazing so if you want to use a transparent avatar I recommend it, as it's typically hard to get a .png under 6kB
