For too long, has our nation been with our old colors. Too long, has our flag been a symbol of the past, when it should, indeed by going towards the future. Why must we remember our days in the reigns of the European Empires of old? Why must we be forced to think of ourselves as the old Country, while today, we are certainly something new.
This flag, means many things, but a modern Morocco is not one of them. We shall hang these, with the honor, and dignity they deserve, however. But, a new flag has been created, to represent a new, and changing Morocco.
Our flag is a meaningful one. Every color, every star, represents a chapter in our new state. The four stars, in each corner, is supposed to show the 4 decades of instability it took, to create a strong, central government. The stars, and the crescent also represent our faith. We are a proud Moslem nation, and as such, would it not make sense to include it on our flag? It is off to the left however. Not out of disrespect, moreover to show that while religion is important, in any aspect of a culture, it is not center stage any more. Our people still abide by its laws, but at the same time, abide by our own, and our union.
Our union is represent by a single white bar, down the center; holding, binding. The notches in it, represents our current state, that off simply Morocco, and our new state, of Mali, and the islands of Cape Verde, St. Helena and Ascension. Every new state, willing to join our union will receive its own notch. These notches show that, while you retain your indent, and can rule yourselves, under our Monarchy, you are still bound to the single white bar of union.
The lime green of our flag is in remembrance, of our Berber past. One that should not be forgotten. We at one point, were the mighty desert tribe that fought of Carthaginian, and Roman advances. It is important, especially in this hectic world of the 21st Century, that we not forget that, the spirit of those warriors of the past are still well within us.
The flag as it stands for now, will suffice. It will be changing, ever so often, and so will our country. However, it is always nice to have some sort of national symbol to grasp onto.
