Inevitable gun control argument thread....

Gun ownership being an inalienable right is one of the the most ridiculous ideas I think I've ever heard...

You must not be an American to understand it for it to be alienable to you.;)

If you guys want guns, then have guns... its none of my business. I just find the idea that some higher power has imbued the right to gun ownership upon mankind hilarious... more so if people actually believe it. Gun ownership is allowed because that what the majority wants.

Very fair...that is the attitude. This one is appreciated.

As we keep telling you over there...you just don't understand.

Thanks,

~Chris

I thought that British people hit each other with teaspoons.

No, we understand perfectly.
You have guns, and shoot each other a lot.

Part of the cost of having the most free society on earth. And contrary to popular belief, there is far more violent crime in many other countries than in the USA.....so?

Looking at the nature of those particular societies,
I wonder that gives you any comfort,
but if those are the type of countries you want to bracket yourself with,
sure, feel free. :D

Ah.....You mean countries like the Scotland and Australia? Both have more violent crime than the USA. Pretty sure I saw a story before that said the UK was more violent as well.

The figure for Scotland dwarfs that of other developed nations such as Japan, where people are 30 times less likely to be attacked.

The study, based on telephone interviews conducted between 1991 and 2000, said 3% of people in Scotland had suffered an assault, while the figure for England and Wales was second highest at 2.8%.

Ooops. So much for you looking down your nose at other countries.

Apparently you seem to be of the impression that its ok to beat living hell out of people at an unprecendented rate as long as you dont kill them. Now thats quality of living.

I remind you of your own words, when I commented about violence: "Looking at the nature of those particular societies".

Ironic that its your own particular society that is one of the most violent on earth.

Oh, and apparently this is lost on you as well.

"That's why we will address the culture of violence by doubling the maximum penalty for carrying a knife to four years, by strengthening police powers of arrest for people suspected of carrying a knife, and by raising the age at which a person can buy a non-domestic knife from 16 to 18.

First it was gun-control laws. Now its knife-control laws. Any bets on how long it is before we see fist-control laws?

It appears that they surveyed living people. Did the results take into account that a higher rate of American assault victims are dead and thus could not be surveyed?
