Inflation? Blame the tooth fairy.

Did someone mention Tooth Fairy economics?

Good work that man.

EDIT - That is to say Phleg, not the daddy.

Assuming 22 million kids of tooth-losing age (which I'm assuming to be 5-9 to make it easier to use this), that's 22 million kids * 20 teeth/kid * $2/tooth / 5 years = $176 million. This may seem like a lot, but compared to the $13 trillion GNP of the US, the tooth fairy shouldn't be a major cause of inflation.

$2? Depending on what it was, it varied from a dollar to nothing to a pack of Micro Machines to $20 later on.

Then again, I usually just saved the money until I needed to bail my father out for a payment, so it did get back into the economy.

Baby teeth should be traded on some sort of exchange. That way, we could determine a fair market value for them. We could even trade futures and options, to determine the time-value of baby teeth.

*sigh* one can but dream...

I suppose an enterprising young man or woman could save those teeth until there are enough to make a necklace and then sell the product somewhere. I think that could eliminate some of the worries about inflation in the tooth fairy sector. But it may induce worries in the tooth necklace industry.
