Assuming 22 million kids of tooth-losing age (which I'm assuming to be 5-9 to make it easier to use this), that's 22 million kids * 20 teeth/kid * $2/tooth / 5 years = $176 million. This may seem like a lot, but compared to the $13 trillion GNP of the US, the tooth fairy shouldn't be a major cause of inflation.
Baby teeth should be traded on some sort of exchange. That way, we could determine a fair market value for them. We could even trade futures and options, to determine the time-value of baby teeth.
I suppose an enterprising young man or woman could save those teeth until there are enough to make a necklace and then sell the product somewhere. I think that could eliminate some of the worries about inflation in the tooth fairy sector. But it may induce worries in the tooth necklace industry.
