Information Drought?

I was all set to declare the drought over... But I don't think so yet.

I don't think the drought will be over until the next round of info-rich magazine features come out.

We're getting quite a lot of info at the moment, but on close inspection it's mostly more detailed goings over of things we've already seen and already know about. I'm just waiting for the next Civ reveal...

I don't know about y'all, but I'm about to start ignoring Kate. I know it's her job to be unflaggingly enthusiastic about every piece of marketing 2K has her promote, but I feel, as we traverse this desert landscape of information drought, like she keeps handing me canteens of water, forcing me to wait hours or even days, and then allowing me to finally drink... only to find out that the canteen is full of sand. And each time my sunken eyes, full of shock and disappointment, look up to see her smiling and jumping up and down as she tells me I'm most certainly welcome.

yea why do I have the feeling that she is the one that comes up with this Facebook business.... I miss Greg. :(

A bit like the Red Queen. When Alice said that she was thirsty, the Queen gave her a dry biscuit.

I know... It's not the same thing anymore. Feels like playing an incomplete game. :(

Oppisite for me - it feels like a game thats about to be replaced. I'm getting my last hurrahs out of the current mechanics before the new ones come in and everything changes.

I can agree to that. Unfortunately for Kate, her job is to be a face, but she seems to have no decision making abilities. It puts her in a very hard position, but she must learn that her main power is silence. Don't tease us with information that does not exist.

I think Lab Zero spoiled me. You don't see significant developer/community conversation very often but the dialog Mike Z keeps up with the Skullgirls fanbase is always honest and informative; he plays and loves his game too and knows what he would want to know and tells it to us unless he specifically cannot, in which case he's honest about that too.

I was kind of hoping for something similar from Kate but it's obvious that 2K keeps Firaxis on a much tighter leash than Lab Zero ever had to deal with so even if she does become aware of what we want to know she doesn't have any authority to give it to us.

I know there's got to be someone in Marketing for 2K who goes through this thread, stroking his white Persian cat, snickering and saying "everything is going according to plan"

I'm dying for a new civ, I really want to see a new one revealed this week.

The last G&K Civ was revealed 6 weeks before the US release date. We're now about 8 weeks away from BNW's release date and we still don't know 4 of the 9 Civs. Is it any wonder some of us are getting impatient?

ETA: to be honest, the persistence of things such as placeholder icons and music this close to release is making me wonder if it'll be released on schedule. Perhaps we haven't seen any more Civs because they're still working on them...

I think I am reaching saturation point for a certain kind of new info. I want to know who all the civs are and what they do before I start playing the game. I want some idea of the new mechanics, etc. But I also like to discover things as I play. I don't really want a complete list of great works released before-hand in dribs and drabs - it spoils the fun.

What is worse, is that Rome II Total War is speculated by some (and scheduled by Amazon) to be released two weeks or a month after BNW... Goodbye life :crazyeye:

Rome II is scheduled for September by Steam. I doubt it could come earlier somehow.

And I wouldn't expect too much fun from this game. TW series is focused on visual and historical immersion much more than gameplay. Gets boring very fast, IMHO. At least it has much less replay value than Civ. So no worries :)

I wrote this a few hours before the announcement of the release date, I couldn't know :)

Unfortunately for your point of view, I'm greatly amused by both Civilization and Total War series and I can't pick which one I love more. Heck, I even quite like Empire. Replay value is too subjective to discuss, really. When I'm bored by Civ, I get back to Medieval 2, and when I'm tired of handling battles, I turn to the empire-building in Civ. :crazyeye:

Yesterday's video got me only hungry for more. I hope the next feature will be about ideology. Would love to see it in action.

Hopefully some more information will be out next week (it's probably too late now this week - or is it?) It's been a while since we found out about the Zulu and Portuguese, so I think we need to find out about another one of the new civs. Can't wait to play the game, just a couple of months to go....

And so the drought continues. What seemed like the sign of strong rain has turned out to me nothing but a small cloud. The civfanatic now sits in the sand waiting for the rain, but he does not know whether he'll survive till then.

Tune in next time for our documentary on the great drought.

A message from the documentary team: Please donate some water. Even we ran out of water ages ago!

It's been a month since we found out about the last two civs, it's two months before release, and four civs remain to be revealed. We really are due for some information soon.
