Information Drought?

The last G&K Civ was revealed 6 weeks before the US release date. We're now about 8 weeks away from BNW's release date and we still don't know 4 of the 9 Civs. Is it any wonder some of us are getting impatient?

ETA: to be honest, the persistence of things such as placeholder icons and music this close to release is making me wonder if it'll be released on schedule. Perhaps we haven't seen any more Civs because they're still working on them...

The footage in the video with placeholders is obviously an older build than the screenshots released thus far. These featurettes have been long in planning and execution, its not something they've just thrown together last week.

I don't know a lot about the software business, but would they have announced a release date if they had such major work left to do?

Maybe they decided they released the info too quickly last year and are drawing it out to prolong the anticipation.

Ahahaha oh man delays are a long and honored tradition in the realm of video games

If you want to see an example that's almost hilarious it's so sad, just look at the development cycle for Super Smash Brothers Brawl. It basically amounted to:

1. We're releasing in a month!
2. (One week before the release date) Uhh, we have some more things to take care of, it'll be another month.
3. Repeat this process about five times.

They actually have been releasing little bits of fluff info for the past few weeks. Probably just to keep us from complaining too much. It just makes me more strong in my conviction that we will learn new civs in the big gamer magazine articles in the middle of the month. I'm thinking Monday to Wednesday of next week.

Fair point, well made.

4. Profit anyway :p

5. Receive harsh criticism from a competitive crowd that you intentionally drove away with inane mechanics and have your game retain a quarter of the longevity of its predecessor.

But I digress. :p

the next info campaign will be kate giddily informing us that for the price of a mere fifty thousand likes, 2k will confirm something about the new leaders!

and when we do it, we'll be told that they are, as most of had surmised, all historical leaders and human beings and we are most certainly welcome

note: not bashing kate, just poking fun

Usually that's in the bug fixing areas of the game, which are harder to plan for. People usually can plan out a good schedule for art in order to have it all done by the time the game is done.

Actually, that's not bad already.

Ed Beach (creator of BNW) vs. Masahiro Sakurai (creator of Smash Bros.)

No different from each other, except that the latter created a young pink male ball that can fly and inhale to gain copy abilities

Well since we've brought up Brawl, I'll mention that I think they had the most amazing pre-release previews. Super Smash Bros. Dojo was incredibly fun to check every morning and had me ogling at some new feature five times a week! It would be cool if Civ VI took that route.

Not necessarily. I mean, all projections as to what the schedule should be are based on a pattern of one.

Shouldn't they have revealed the fifth civilization by now?

Looking at the trend of BNW and G&K, they usually reveal 2 civs at a time. And I think next week could be a logical moment for the reveal of 2 of the remaining 4 unknown civs.

Ha I forgot about that. The last delay if I remember was to add the level builder which ended up being severely outclassed by LittleBigPlanet later that year. :p

I have to say, I really did expect another civ reveal on Friday. It isn't fair to say we got no new information, but I am quite surprised at the gap that is developing, which seems longer than the gaps of info for G&K.

^ Yeah, same here.

As I remarked somewhere, it's way longer than the gaps for G&K. By the time Sweden was revealed, we were less than 2 months away from release date. We're still waiting on four Civs with just under 2 months to go.

It's been a month since the Zulu/Portugal magazine features came out, so I predict a double Civ reveal this week, via the medium of a magazine publication of some kind.
