Welcome back, civvers!
After a solid two weeks of no updates, through which I had to undergo my painful last assignments of the semester and the first (and most painful... I hate math.

) of my final exams, I am finally ready to return!
Last time, a war between the Germans and Russians began (the Russians have the early upper hand, but the Germans have a ton of soldiers), the next plague proceeded to devastate Japan, and the Aztecs (who have been pitiful ever since being conquered and vassalized by Portugal) collapsed. Now onto today's update!
We start on turn 295 (year 1712), with Suleiman the "Magnificent" of the Ottomans approaching me. He gives me this offer:
I tell him to shove it, but he apparently has more success with his allies the Arabs: they agree to become Ottoman vassals.
Meanwhile, the plague finally appears to have run it's course in Japan. It is now disappeared from half of my cities (including capital Kyoto), though Tokyo and Keijo still have it. The faster it leaves, the better.
Meanwhile, the Ottomans continue to spread throughout the world, capturing both the former Persian city of Pura:
As well as capturing the native African city of Mombasa:
To give some perspective as to how terrifying the Ottomans have been, they are currently as large as
Russia. Both Turkey and Russia have 13 cities, with Mongolia in third place with 11. Japan at the moment has 8 cities (Kyoto, Tokyo, Akita, Nagasaki, Sapporo, Keijo, Qingdao, and Davao).
Turn 296: The Arabs don't want the Turks to get all of the spoils, so they have expanded into Somalia, founding Hobya:
Eh, it's not where I would have gone, but it's your decision, Saladin!
As for Russia, they reclaim the title of Nation with the Most Cities (couldn't find a better name for it.

) by settling Surgut in western Siberia:
Again with Siberia, look who's poking around here:

What are the Romans doing here? I've seen Roman scouts in the oddest places in this story, from Scandinavia to Indonesia to northern Siberia.
...
*facepalm* Fail!
Meanwhile, fresh air! The plague has finally left Japan completely! No more mass death in my cities!
As for the colonialist scene, France continues to settle northeastern Canada, settling Anse-aux-Meduses:
They now have more cities in North America than Europe.
Turn 297: Game crashes.

When I return, I notice that the Arabs got screwed over in Persia when Pura emerged from its resistance:
Update on the Russo-German war: With the Germans' attack on Tiraspol having been beaten back, the war is currently in a stalemate. Neither side is launching any offensives at the moment, instead being content to gather up their soldiers near the border. At the moment, this war is going nowhere.
Meanwhile, the Portuguese have settled another colony in South America, this time the Brazilian capital, Brasilia:
Turn 298:
Oh Crap.
Fortunately, they're only attacking with cannons again.
Meanwhile, what are the French doing near a war zone? Does this guy think he's Marco Polo?
To see what else is going on, I look at the Foreign screen:

Well, World War I has officially begun! Let's get this party started! Time to do my best to summarize the sides of this chaos:
On one side, we have the Pro-Germans (I'm assuming this one got started due to the Russo-German war going nowhere, causing both sides to bring in allies). On Germany's side, we have the Ottomans, as well as their vassals Mali and Arabia, the Vikings, and of course, Germany. On Russia's side, we've got Russia (duh), along with the Netherlands, Spain, France, Rome, and England, as well as British Honduras (the Maya) and the Carthaginians.
- Germany
- Ottomans
- Malinese
- Arabs
- Vikings
VS
- Russia
- Rome
- Netherlands
- France
- Spain
- Maya
- Carthage
- England
This war makes Japan's sudden war with Mongolia (completely unrelated, as neither Mongolia nor Japan has any major deals with Europe) look tiny in comparison. Grab your popcorn, viewers, the fun is about to begin!
I am going to end this update here, so you can writhe in agony waiting to see what will happen.

You'll have to wait until
after finals, sorry! Still, after this coming week, I'll have until January free (thank goodness for winter break). Next time, we'll see how our war with Mongolia goes (I better not lose Qingdao; I'm on track to winning the UHV!), World War I will begin in earnest, and (I know I've been saying this one for a while

) the Americans will finally arrive on the scene. Until next time, stay tuned!
