Interesting Times - The AI Side of RFC

Welcome back, civvers!

Last time we were here, the Turks capture Jerusalem and exit World War I, the Mongols' attack on Japan fails miserably, I move to capture southeast China, and the Americans arrive on the world scene, their war for independence forthcoming. And on to the show!

We start off with turn 303, and look at this:
2qol.png

:D Finally, we get our recognition! I'm not sure if I will bother with demanding for a city, but we'll burn that bridge when we get to it, right?

Next, it is time for the invasion of Southeast China to commence! Before:

And after:
z3k1.png

Of course I lose my first rifleman when he had an 85% chance of winning (), but who cares? Another city is mine, as Fuzhou has fallen! :D

With Japan's expansion out of the way, time to check on the rest of the world. The Americans have finally settled down, building their capital of Washington:

Meanwhile, I realize I had the tile yield display on again. :hammer2:

Turn 304: Update on the next Congress (which is next turn). Very good news, as everyone who is in it is pleased with me. With me being average-sized and at war with one of the world's most hated nations, I think I have a good chance to steal a city from someone. The question is, which one? Hmm...

Meanwhile, the Mongols are attacking again, this time with a proper army, not just cannons:
rt3j.png

I have another cannon to damage them with, but my riflemen are still resting in Qingdao. I'll give them one more turn before I attack this new Mongol force.

As for the rest of the world: My, you've grown bigger, America!
e997.png

:eek2: That is a lot of units in Washington. It helps that they are at war with Britain, who just lost New York to them. France was a little more savvy, giving up Savannah to the USA without declaring war, allowing the French to avoid risking losing New Orleans. As a side note, those English workers near Washington are screwed.

Nothing else of importance happened on this turn, so it's time to move on to Turn 305 and, more importantly, a Congress.
74u6.png

Where is that again? Anyways, here we go. First up, we have Suleiman of the Ottomans, who is asking for Takshashila in NW India. I vote NO emphatically. The last thing I want is for the Ottomans to grow even larger. The results:
qovo.png

Phew! The only one who agreed with Suleiman was Hannibal of Carthage. Speaking of which, how in the world did Carthage get in? Anyway, second up is Catherine of Russia, who wants German Wilna. I decide to abstain from this one. The results:
95i6.png

Well, I didn't expect that one? I figured that since Russia is so massive, the council would favor Germany in this one. Then again, Germany is at war with almost all of Europe, so it makes sense to cut them down to size. Next up is Frederick of Germany, who makes a rather dumb decision by asking for Goteborg from his (unstable) ally, the Vikings. I again abstain (why would I care what happens to the Vikings?), and the result:
0k3w.png

Scandinavia gets lucky. Next up, Victoria, who, on behalf of the BEIC, asks for ex-Indian Cochin. I decide to refuse this one, and the result:
xfa5.png

Napoleon alone agreed with Victoria, as the rest of the council either said no or abstained. Next up is Napoleon himself, who asks for Pompeii in Southern Italy (why not just ask for Rome?). I go against this one, as well. The result:
slrq.png

Close call, but France is defeated 5-4, as Carthage, Spain, Germany, and the Vikings take my side, while England, Turkey, and Russia takes France's side. Up next is Isabella of Spain, who wants Tuitan. I forget where Tuitan even is, so I abstain, and the results are as followed:
sn7z.png

This one was literally as close as you can get, with a 4-4 tie (I alone abstained) meaning defeat for Spain. Seventh on the list is Ragnar of the Vikings, who asks for Russian Arkhangel'sk. I decide to go against Ragnar here, and the results:
sbjj.png

Another 5-4 vote going against the asker. Lots of close ones in this Congress! Eighth on the list is me! :D I decide that I want to make the Mongols feel the pain by asking for Beijing (Khanbaliq to the Mongols), and the results:
1uqp.png

Aww. :( Well, apparently no one gives a crap about this side of the globe. At least I know that Russia's got my back when dealing with the Mongols. Maybe I should ask her to help in my war with Kublai...

To end the Congress, we have Hannibal, asking for Spanish Ceuta. I decide to give him what the world gave me, by putting up a big fat "I don't care" sign and abstaining. The results:
ec2b.png

Isabella gets the short end of the stick here, and has to relinquish Ceuta to Carthage. And that does it for Congress #2! Even though I didn't get Beijing, I am still satisfied with it (didn't take much to satisfy me here - since I'm neutral to everyone but Mongolia, my only real goal here was to keep Turkey and the Westerners out of India and the rest of my side of Asia. With that, I succeeded.)

Update on Mongolia's new offensive: It ended. I sacrificed one cannon, and let my riflemen finish the job. No riflemen casualties, and the Mongols lose four more units. It's good to have riflemen when the best your enemy can come up with are Keshiks. :D

Other than the Congress-induced city flips, nothing else happened this turn, so I decide to end this update. Next time, we'll see what else Kublai has in store for me (if anything), if America can win it's war for independence against Britian (I don't see how they can lose ), and we will see if Germany can survive the continuing dogpile that it finds itself in. Until next time, stay tuned!

Of course I lose my first rifleman when he had an 85% chance of winning (), but who cares? Another city is mine, as Fuzhou has fallen! :D

Over time this game reminds me more and more of the superstition or curse in the Aeneid that the first man out of the boat always dies...

Aww. :( Well, apparently no one gives a crap about this side of the globe. At least I know that Russia's got my back when dealing with the Mongols. Maybe I should ask her to help in my war with Kublai...

From what I hear, Catherine has "got" everyone's back...she uses them as dartboards. :p

That was a good shoe!

Welcome back, civvers!

BTW, Happy New Year's Eve, everyone! :D

Last time we were here, the Americans started their war for independence by flipping New York and Savannah, the Japanese captured Fuzhou (and with it, SE China), and the second Congress slightly shook up global politics (as well as the war against Germany, who lost Poland). Now for the update!

Oh, and please no more shoe jokes.

We start today on turn 306 (Year 1745), with an update on the "Great War". Remember when Russia grabbed Wilna from Germany via Congress? Well, they didn't get to enjoy it for very long:
x114.png

Well, Germany's getting Poland back! As you can see, the Germans also have a big SOD moving Southeast into the Ukraine. Going on the offensive, I see!

Also, we have Spain, who now has their first overseas colony (unless you count Ceuta, now lost to Carthage via Congress), Montevideo:
xdru.png

Better late than never, I guess. With the Inca under my protection and Spain never really getting off the ground, Portugal has been the big conqueror of Latin America, conquering the Aztecs and colonizing Brazil liberally. I rarely see a non-collapsed Spain get such a late start in the colonizing game.

Meanwhile, remember when the Romans had one African town, Berenice? Well...
6ldt.png

Oh, no. Back to this!? With Berenice undefended, the Barbs are about to have one last moment of glory. In the 18th Century. In an era of camel archer-chewing riflemen. *facepalm*. (There really needs to be a facepalm smilie on this website, btw). And don't think that Berenice can do what the Malinese did with Awlil - Berenice is size two, and is 62 turns away from finishing it's musketman.

Turn 307: :crazyeye:
3qrr.png

Ok, now I'm just confused. Why did the barbs not take Berenice? It's right there, and it's undefended! This epic fail deserves a :shake:

Turn 308: In the IBT, the Mongols send a Keshik & Maceman pair at one of my rifleman, crossing a river while doing so. :shake: Needless to say, they died. I didn't even lose a man!

Meanwhile, the barb camel archers finally remembered what they were doing:
8hsn.png

At least they captured Berenice as opposed to razing it. If anyone wants it, it's up for grabs!

Meanwhile, the plague strikes Cuzco, the Incan capital. This better be the old plague, as if it's the next one, it could very easily spread to me, which would be disastrous to my army (since it's small, and mostly holed up in China and Korea).

Turn 309: I meet Honest George Washington of America:
vri2.png

Speaking of America...
6tj7.png

They tried to take Fort Albany in Canada, but just as in real life, the invasion of Canada was a total disaster. They may still capture it, but with their starting SOD basically gone, they're unlikely to keep it. As they say: so close, and yet so far...
Not a good start for the Americans.

In other North American news, the natives strike again, taking Teotihuacan:
yprn.png

Meanwhile, the Portuguese in southern Mexico are sending an expeditionary force north. Their target seems to be the Aztecs' former capital, but we'll see.

Turn 310: Oh!
16sf.png

And there goes Germany! The Holy Roman Empire could not withstand all of Europe (minus Scandinavia) being at war with it, and it collapsed! Most of it is promptly divvied up: the Russians take back Wilna (3 times changing hands in the last five turns. Good grief.), the Dutch take both Hamburg and Berlin , the Vikings complete the unification of Fenno-Scandia (minus southern Denmark) with the capture of Finnish Helsinki, and Vienna (Wien) is taken by Independent Spalatum (since Spalatum is the city of Split, I'll just call the nation Croatia :p). Meanwhile, the Latvians are fortunate enough to get their own nation with the independence of Riga, though I suspect they'll get a visit from Russia soon enough...

And with that, I will end this fail-ridden update. Next time, we'll see if America does manage to lose it's war for independence (it may be possible, since it lost half of it's army failing to take a lightly defended Canadian town ), if Latvia and Croatia fall to the hungry powers of Europe looking to fill in the void made by Germany's collapse (the Dutch are already moving against Vienna) and if I can ever make peace with the Mongols. Until next time, stay tuned!

To celebrate this wonderful moccasin, we shall give all shoes the boot! No shoe will slipper by under my socks!

This great shoe has been booted up by 9001 levels!

Every time you remind them of sho...you know what, they make more jokes!

I feel so bad for starting this...

Oh, and nice update.
