Welcome back, civvers!
Last time we were here, the Turks capture Jerusalem and exit World War I, the Mongols' attack on Japan fails miserably, I move to capture southeast China, and the Americans arrive on the world scene, their war for independence forthcoming. And on to the show!
We start off with turn 303, and look at this:
Finally, we get our recognition! I'm not sure if I will bother with demanding for a city, but we'll burn that bridge when we get to it, right?
Next, it is time for the invasion of Southeast China to commence! Before:
And after:
Of course I lose my first rifleman when he had an 85% chance of winning
rolleyes
, but who cares? Another city is mine, as Fuzhou has fallen!
With Japan's expansion out of the way, time to check on the rest of the world. The Americans have finally settled down, building their capital of Washington:
Meanwhile, I realize I had the tile yield display on again.
Turn 304: Update on the next Congress (which is next turn). Very good news, as everyone who is in it is pleased with me. With me being average-sized and at war with one of the world's most hated nations, I think I have a good chance to steal a city from someone. The question is, which one? Hmm...
Meanwhile, the Mongols are attacking again, this time with a proper army, not just cannons:
I have another cannon to damage them with, but my riflemen are still resting in Qingdao. I'll give them one more turn before I attack this new Mongol force.
As for the rest of the world: My, you've grown bigger, America!
That is a lot of units in Washington. It helps that they are at war with Britain, who just lost New York to them. France was a little more savvy, giving up Savannah to the USA without declaring war, allowing the French to avoid risking losing New Orleans. As a side note, those English workers near Washington are screwed.
Nothing else of importance happened on this turn, so it's time to move on to Turn 305 and, more importantly, a Congress.
Where is that again?
Anyways, here we go. First up, we have Suleiman of the Ottomans, who is asking for Takshashila in NW India. I vote NO emphatically. The last thing I want is for the Ottomans to grow even larger. The results:
Phew! The only one who agreed with Suleiman was Hannibal of Carthage. Speaking of which, how in the world did Carthage get in?
Anyway, second up is Catherine of Russia, who wants German Wilna. I decide to abstain from this one. The results:
Well, I didn't expect that one? I figured that since Russia is so massive, the council would favor Germany in this one. Then again, Germany is at war with almost all of Europe, so it makes sense to cut them down to size. Next up is Frederick of Germany, who makes a rather dumb decision by asking for Goteborg from his (unstable) ally, the Vikings. I again abstain (why would I care what happens to the Vikings?), and the result:
Scandinavia gets lucky. Next up, Victoria, who, on behalf of the BEIC, asks for ex-Indian Cochin. I decide to refuse this one, and the result:
Napoleon alone agreed with Victoria, as the rest of the council either said no or abstained. Next up is Napoleon himself, who asks for Pompeii in Southern Italy (why not just ask for Rome?
). I go against this one, as well. The result:
Close call, but France is defeated 5-4, as Carthage, Spain, Germany, and the Vikings take my side, while England, Turkey, and Russia takes France's side. Up next is Isabella of Spain, who wants Tuitan. I forget where Tuitan even is, so I abstain, and the results are as followed:
This one was literally as close as you can get, with a 4-4 tie (I alone abstained) meaning defeat for Spain. Seventh on the list is Ragnar of the Vikings, who asks for Russian Arkhangel'sk. I decide to go against Ragnar here, and the results:
Another 5-4 vote going against the asker. Lots of close ones in this Congress! Eighth on the list is me!
I decide that I want to make the Mongols feel the pain by asking for Beijing (Khanbaliq to the Mongols), and the results:
Aww.
Well, apparently no one gives a crap about this side of the globe. At least I know that Russia's got my back when dealing with the Mongols. Maybe I should ask her to help in my war with Kublai...
To end the Congress, we have Hannibal, asking for Spanish Ceuta. I decide to give him what the world gave me, by putting up a big fat "I don't care" sign and abstaining. The results:
Isabella gets the short end of the stick here, and has to relinquish Ceuta to Carthage. And that does it for Congress #2! Even though I didn't get Beijing, I am still satisfied with it (didn't take much to satisfy me here - since I'm neutral to everyone but Mongolia, my only real goal here was to keep Turkey and the Westerners out of India and the rest of my side of Asia. With that, I succeeded.)
Update on Mongolia's new offensive: It ended.
I sacrificed one cannon, and let my riflemen finish the job. No riflemen casualties, and the Mongols lose four more units. It's good to have riflemen when the best your enemy can come up with are Keshiks.
Other than the Congress-induced city flips, nothing else happened this turn, so I decide to end this update. Next time, we'll see what else Kublai has in store for me (if anything), if America can win it's war for independence against Britian (I don't see how they can lose
), and we will see if Germany can survive the continuing dogpile that it finds itself in. Until next time, stay tuned!
