While there are no immediate threats anywhere, I am paranoid so I throw it out. Is there any reason to upgrade a warrior while we have the cash?

My assumption is it is best to use the money to run deficit research, but you know what assuming does.

I think we're ok Booti. They'd have to come by boat since we've blocked the isthmus. If they tried to take the isthmus city it would cost them at least one if not two axes to take it. We should send them a message asking if we are extending peace...assuming we want to.

As much as I would like to spend the money keeping our research up, we have the cash - upgrade the warrior. I don't see the point of even taking a tiny risk at this point. Besides, he can step out and smack the barb if it looks like he is going to pillage. (That industrial spine of mined hills makes my little heart go flutter).

I'd say no on the upgrade. Put the warrior next to the workers on top of the Workers. This guards the workers plus gets him access to roads. If the barb goes for TC, he will probably lose. Warriors get a 10% city defense bonus (in addition to their fortify bonus), plus at this difficulty level we get a barb bonus. Save the cash! At least for this turn ... We'll see about next turn.

I agree, save the cash... we should be able to avoid damage from the barb wthout upgrading.

That's fine :scared: I'm not nervous :vomit: The odds stack in our favor, I'm sure we'll be okay :spear:

:mischief:

OK we'll see what happens next turn and we can decide.

I was just looking at the demographics and it seems as though one of the teams are really sucking wind. One of the teams have only 21 gpt (66% of the average).

We need to not partner up with someone who is that weak.

I know that :p Just making a point of it.

We need another galley. How long until we get the Great Merchant? If it is time right we could probably reserve a stateroom for him on the next ship out.

Have we decided against Killercane's idea of using the GM to lightbulb CS?

I think we should lightbulb CS.

 You're right. I forgot. I guess my Real Life, Christmas Season, mad-dash search for a big pile of cash bled into the MTDG. Sorry.

I guess I just don't understand the plan then. If we want to lightbulb CS, then why are we researching Machinery? :undecide: We have to have Code of Laws before CS will be offered. Or is the plan to use this first GM for something else (Currency?? or Trade Mission/Scouting) and then take CS with the 2nd GM in 50 turns?

Maces require Machinery as well. that is why Machinery is being researched in parallel to lightbulbing CS ;)

That's why we need it later. Why do we need it now? Windmills? Crossbows?

If we want to lightbulb CS, we need to get a couple of techs under our belt first. But, as in everything [civ4], we have a couple of options on how to get there.
Mathematics -> Currency -> Code of Laws = 44 turns
Meditation->Priesthood->Monarchy->Code of Laws = 35 turns
I like researching Math -> Currency -> Caste as those techs do a lot more for us than the religious techs. If we want speed, though, we should look into trading with Epsilon for their religious techs.

We've got a lot of turns of research before we can lightbulb CS. And for the record, I agree with Pindicator that the longer path gives us the more immediately useful techs.

OK work with me here people. Should we offer a trade to The Leader and what?

I wouldn't think so, Whomp. But I don't think the question can be trully answered, yet. (1) I don't really know what trades are on the table. That was one of the questions that I asked in the other thread. :D (2) I think we need to wait and see what the team wants to do about Machinery / Code of Laws research.

I've been thinking about this question, trying to come up with an answer. The only reason that I can think of that we should prioritize Machinery is if we think war is imminent. Are we planning to attack Epsilon? Do we think Epsilon is about to attack us? If either answer is yes, then we will need Crossbowmen to combat their Macemen.

If we are not going to war, then I think we ought to put Machinery on hold and start researching Mathematics. And probably stop any chops until it completes. Trading religous techs with Epsilon doesn't make a lot of sense to me since we have no religion. And our Philosophy/Taoism options are looking more and more unlikely.
