Just wondering what steps everyone takes when using the internet. I use NFR BackOfficer Friendly to detect HTTP/FTP/Telnet/and other well know entry points. The program can pretend that those services are there and give false indicators. Below is a screenshot of someone running a script attempting to gain access to my system thru a web/HTTP request.

I have also read about the program called Snort, but I was unable to get that to work on XP.

hmmmmmm me I use tiny personal fire wall execlent programme asks you whether you want a programme to be albe to use the net

dont think Im a target for hackers though (appart from my friends)

Yeah Zone Alarm Pro rocks. I also use Norton PErsonal firewall.
But you know what? a friend of mine uses 4 firewalls at the time!!! Quite paranoid But he says then nobody can go through the protection...

I'm also reckoning to use a hardware DSL router. Cisco seems to be the choice
