Hmmm... Not sure how I feel about this... I understand that coming up with names for the Shoshone would be a challenge, but using the name of tribes seems kinda... I dunno, but it isn't sitting well with me, it has a very Civ IV North American Civilization vibe to me...
Hopefully I'm wrong...

I see what you mean, but I think it's a little different.
With Civ IV North American Civilization, that's just blatant laziness
With Civ V Shoshone city names, they've already come out in saying how difficult it has been for them to come up with a suitable list. Since they're not spending their resources sending in a fieldwork anthropologist, I think we should all give them a pass
If a nomadic culture would suddenly settle permanently, it would make sense to name the sedentary communities after the wandering bands. I don't have a problem with that. It beats the hell out of battlefields and reservations.
I think he is pointing out that in the current build, you have no control over puppets and they never use the gold/science from production on their own. Either something has changed where puppets can/do or Venice has more control over puppets than regular Civs.
I wonder if its pure coincidence that there is not a warrior unit in the Shoshone screenshot. Normally with only that much of the map revealed you would had to be really bad to lose a unit so quickly. Perhaps they do start with a path finder unit?
I figured Pathfinders would have -1 strength compared to the warriors due to it saying they are almost as strong as a warrior in the desc. I guess they are referring to the fact that they only get scout upgrades rather than warrior ones.
Venice actually looks quite scary if you look at the huge amount of CS that have been puppeted. Combined with the "More evil!" comments on that article I can imagine them to be powerful and a nasty opponent.
Nice to finally have confirmation, and I like the leader screens. Dandolo's is dark and gives a feeling of intrigue and shady dealings, and Pocatello's is, while perhaps a bit stereotype-evoking, very scenic. If I ever visit America I hope to see landscapes like that.
I love the scenic background in both screens. I have not been to Venice and a nighttime scene looks awesome. I live in the American West and travel between my home in Colorado to the West Coast a lot and love the lands in between as well.

That's the duality that I struggle with - born and raised in Onondaga County but living in the American West for most of the past 40 years. Folks here are used to seeing me with Hiawatha, to read or to ignore as they like.
I was going to make a comment about the Great Galleass now that I read about them. I think they're going to be just fine and a good unit. I remember in my last Immortal game, Galleasses saved my butt since I couldn't get all of my cannons in place to attack a capital.
I dislike Galleases as an offensive weapon. It's hard to get enough of them around a big city to make a big difference due to being restricted to shallow waters. They will probably be just fine for defense though.
