IOT Developmental Thread

Now, as for the rules, I was going to explode about how complex it was and how it would be needed to be toned down, until I read the last line.

Multiple GM's (this is basically the cabinet rule, right?) is a great idea, especially considering how much more complex this game will be now.

GMship

I'd just like to talk about the Cabinet system for a moment. IMO we should have at least three GMs, to oversee the game.

- One to oversee the economic and technology aspect of the game. (I'll volunteer for this)
- One to look after land claims, diplomatic actions and such, and update the map.
- One to look after combat.

We may actually have to have several GMs looking after combat if things gets too ugly. Maybe one for the nations in the Americas, one for Europe and one for Africa and Asia (for instance).

To enable communication, maybe set up an IOT GM group page accessible only to GMs.

Each GM would post a summary of the previous turn's actions in the main IOT group page. Someone ("the First GM") should have executive powers, responsible for collecting the more crucial stats and the map from the other GMs and updating the front page of the thread daily. The First GM would also be the one doing the disciplining, warning and banning people from the game.

Also, why are only a few people (relatively) commenting on my draft? :(

Here it is again. Tomorrow I'll be typing up an updated version incorporating the comments, but in the meantime I need more of them...

Joecoolyo, after I post the updated version can we have an official vote on it?

@Taillesskangaru- If my idea falls its fine, but my reasoning for it was what Droopytofu said. While its better than the alternative, where the heck does the auto army come from? However, if you did your system without it it'd crash and burn.

I like my system for that reason, but I'm not sure if the provinces really are too small to handle it, but I'm voting YES of course.

As for the GMship, I think what you said looks good, and see no issue with you being a GM.

What are you talking about? You mean the extra defending army you get when you get attacked in a province? That's my way of modelling forts without having to deal with sieges and all that complicated stuff which you would know about if you had bothered to read my post

That's a fair point.

For some reason I like my system better, but as you seem to have a vision for the game and it seems to be a good one I DROP MY CASE.

Your system is fine.

However, what do you do for recently conquered territories? Do they get an extra defense army as well?

Unless the attacker burns the place (scorched earth), then the fort can be repaired and regarrisoned with your own troops so, yes, I suppose all territories would get an extra defensive army.

Thank you for the respnonse, Tailless. I see no problems with your plans, so Ivote yes.

I remember you mentioning that each territory counted as its own army, but wasn't sure exactly what that meant. I understand now.

I'd volunteered early in the thread to be in charge of round summaries. I usually read through all the new posts and wouldn't mind typing up a brief summary. I don't know if this fits in exactly with what you'd said at the top of the page, but it fits with what we had discussed at the beginning of the thread.

Sounds good! I was thinking of a system pretty much along the same lines :D

If no one objects, I would like to volunteer for this.

I was thinking that I would take that position, since Tailless already took the economics and tech and I have no idea how to do combat.

Do you want to do combat?

Also, what are you guys voting on? I haven't set up a vote yet! :)

But here it is!
