IOT Developmental Thread

I love NPCs. The more there are, the better.

I LIVE

I decided to take a nap for an hour or two yesterday. Next thing I know it's 6:something am and I've been asleep for 12 hours.

Parents, you are not supposed to not wake me up.

Anyway, Tany, you need to divide west China up some, those provinces are huge.

Already did - the western region has been chopped into three.

Also compiled an NPC list; will be posted in the thread.

So far I have 50 NPCs; not sure if there'll be more or not, but it's plenty at least. Lots of opportunities; I made extra sure to create three in Italy to give us a flashpoint.

Join as Egypt, AA, so when Tyo joins as Jerusalem he'll have an obvious target. :p

Three NPCs in Italy?

Yeah I'm definitely going to be a terrorist. Does Bowser sound ok? kthnxbai

Ok, so, some ramblings on my next IOT (Into the Fire, while not finished yet, is approaching the end).

First thought:
Most IOTs focus on expansion = power, in all shapes and forms. There aren't (usually, not always) major focuses on economic force as deriving from such factors as population, internal industry, etc.
So, in this next IOT, there will be a major focus on different types of infrastructure, population growth, trade, etc.

First up: Infrastructure. There will be many different categories, and you can generally put many, many pieces of infrastructure within a province, assuming I can fit it in there on the map.
Infrastructure generally builds exponentially. You can spread it around your nation, which will generally protect it from the various woes that befall a nation, but it works more effectively within a few specialised provinces. (I.E., 3 units of infrastructure in one province are better than 3 infrastructure in 3 provinces, from an economic standpoint).

Next in line: Population
You can't do a ton without people, and, so, population is monitored in-game. GDP per capita is a very important measure of your economy (you can have all the money you want, but if your population is dirt poor, you aren't going to be doing well). Population will be somewhat based off of RL population densities, albeit simplified. Growth and decay are modeled by RNG percentages, which can be influenced by warzones, economies, and other disasters. Higher populations aren't always better, but very low ones usually are a bad thing.

Trade:
A big focus will be international trade. Among other things, you need to be able to reach the nation you wish to trade with, and have somewhere to put cargo. Suddenly, bordering nations, coastlines, and navies have become much more important. Isthmuses, straits, and canals will be very influential in this.

Expansion vs. Infrastructure:
Expansionism isn't always a good thing in this game. For starters, the bigger you get, the more it costs to expand. Additionally, you have to pay upkeep for your existing provinces, which further limits territorial growth.
On the other hand, being an OPM generally doesn't help your cause, either.
Generally speaking, "wide" nations will have larger militaries and more people.
On the other hand, "tall" nations will have better economies and more advanced militaries.

Diplomacy:
To encourage player RP and diplomacy, a UN of sorts will be created. While I am not 100% sure what the extent and limit of its powers will be, it will be able to impose economic sanctions upon other nations.

Obviously, this seems rather vague at the moment. There will be solid numbers at a later date, I'm just throwing ideas out right now. This IOT will have a new map (and a name) before it starts. Comments, responses, etc. are appreciated. Note that the above is subject to change at any point.

Working on a new IOT
this time, I might actually just remain interested enough. Promise. Honest.
Working title: IOTES

Notes about the map:
1. YES. THE BORDERS ARE HORRIBLY, HORRIBLY HORRIBLE. In my defence, ever looked at a map of Skyrim's holds? (i.e. the one that came with the game) Horrible, isn't it? :p
2. Not as correct, but nevertheless... It's hard to find a map that works.
3. Daedric texts huzzah. (What it says in the corner?
IOTES
WHERE ONE ENDS
ANOTHER ONE
BEGINS)
Working on Rules, in the main part, what happens when you start where and how to implement Daedra/Dragons.
So for now, Joining the game:
Name of Nation:
Religion: (Aedra Worship (specify variation), Daedra Worship (either one of the 16 or all of them at once)
Starting Claim: ONE County/Hold/Citystate/Whatever. This determines the bonus you get for the "Race" (Nord, Orc, Khajit etc.)
A Minor history:
Lineage: (IMPORTANT)
A Flag is OK.
Rules:
1. No ponies. Seriously. Horses in the Elder Scrolls are useless. USELESS.
2. No trolling. Oh, sorry, did you mean the three eyed thing? Hmm... *scribbles down Daedric writing*
3. No flaming etc.
More to come.

Hmm...sounds interesting.
The borders are not all that horrible :p
I'd join as a Redguard daderic worshipper of some sort.

Daedra Worship (either one of the 16 or all of them at once)

Dibs on Sheogorath and Vvardenfell.

Actually, that's a terrible idea. Vivec will get pissed and drop the asteroid. Imma worship him.

An Elder Scrolls IOT?!!!!!!

I'm game!! :D (I want's Solitude!)

What era would we be playing in?
Morrowind?
Oblivion?
or Skyrim?

I can make the borders look natural if you want.
Ye divines no! What'd anything TES be without horrible borders! :p
Also, the game will be after Skyrim, with the idea that the stormcloaks won.
At this point, I have decided to get some of the playable races up.
Nords: Get a bonus fighting in Cold areas (Skyrim, High Rock, northern Cyrodiil etc.)
Imperials: Less chance of country falling apart as soon as the lineage dies.
Redguards: Fighting bonus in Warm areas (Hammerfell etc.)
Breton: Mitigated combination of Nord, Imperial and Altmer bonuses.
Orcs: Bonus fighting just about anywhere.
Altmer: Bonus attack for mages.
Dunmer: Can worship the Tribunal which also gives nice bonuses.
Khajit: ?
Argonian: ?

Imperial bonus sounds crappy. Redguards are the perfect soldier wherever (not just warm places), while orcs are the perfect warrior.

For a My Little Pony IOT, which system of expansion would work the best: fixed Expansion Points, SonIOT-style Expansion by Economy, or Fiat Lux-style Expansion by Military?

Maybe some sort of cultural scale?

Military expansion is always my favorite.

MLP... I'd say colonisation :D

Because I'm Lazy/Insane/Sheogorath I shall now start on religion bonuses for TESIOT:
With Sheogorath, and with Mehrunes Dagon. Possibly, Tribunal.
Sheogorath is the prince of Madness, thus, you shall never know what will happen to your country - a bonus, restriction, massive mountains of cheese... Anything.
Mehrunes Dagon is the prince of Destruction and Change, your armies will be more dangerous, and the Daedra can be summoned.
Tribunal:
"The Tribunal were the living gods of the Dunmer: Vivec, Almalexia, and Sotha Sil. The Nerevarine is responsible for the death of these gods, made mortal by the destruction of the Heart of Lorkhan. However, after the Second Eruption of Red Mountain, all knowledge remained lost, except to the pockets that remained." The Tribunal makes your people feel more Dunmer, so they will fight harder. Sotha Sil's mechanical contraptions can also aid you in times of need.
And for fun:
Malacath: Malacath is prince of the spurned and ostracized, and god-hero of the Orcs. Malacath gives you a combat bonus, and allows you to declare war on absolutely anything.

I would like to offer my services as the Madgod himself.

I met him once, you know. He ate my nose with his finger and then made me a new one of a carrot that a rabbit was still eating. Then we sang -103 Checkers of Soup Bowls on the Wall.
