CivOasis tried that idea with Here and Now but it didn't do so well as memory serves...

An idea : Players take over countries in present day world, facts and data collected from public information sources. Then they take turns to lead their country to glory, with the G8 and the rest of world watching over them, modded by the GM and such ...

I think there are some NESes that do that.

Alright, for some background, you're playing with around 200 nations, all of which needed to be individually managed.

I was also pulling 18-hour days of nothing but programming, and then my uncle died and I had to go to his funeral, so that was a bad winter all around for me.

It's certainly doable, it's just not remotely enjoyable to run.

What if you just started lumping countries together to get it to a more manageable number?

Then you kinda end up missing the point of a modern realistic game.

The easiest way to manage a ton of NPCs is to give them a fixed percentage of spending towards each field, then simply copy/pasting that into whatever database you have for "stats."

For example, MP4 has 69 NPCs but I did their orders in only 5 minutes since they all run on percentages.

Players could still have special projects of their own to avoid restrictions, but it's really easy to create NPCs for immersion without their being too bureaucratic, IF you set them up the right way.

IOTMAD will feature national traits instead of technologies.

These traits will manifest in two categories, War Traits and Peace Traits, and each nation gets to pick one from each.

These decide your national character, from a seafaring land of traders to a warlike state of ace pilots and powerful factories, all the way to a more subtle land with a touch for producing great generals and dashing spies.

Trade, too, is completely redesigned from previous attempts in the Era IOT franchise. Gone is the "1IP from all nations" of IOTE2, gone also is the "1 trade route per province, plus techs and buildings" of IOTCW2. Now, all nations have a flat 3 trade routes, but - ala IOTCW2 - must specify what provinces they are between. However, you cannot trade twice with the same nation, though you can pour all three of your routes into one province.

A commercial nation gains additional income from trade, and even more additional resources from trading with other commercial powers - this naturally causes the commercial nations to form together into allied blocs, much like real life. Meanwhile, industrial and militaristic nations league together in an attempt to take the commercial nations' monopoly from them.

Province improvements are MUCH simplified with the removal of SSM batteries and the merger of SAMs and Guerrillas into Fortifications. These structures function as an entire additional unit in a battle - for a cheaper cost - but alone they cannot defend an entire province from attack. Useful in the early game, supported by defenses, and in the late game valuable additions to worn-out arsenals.

There will also be a superweapon system where you can unleash EMP, mass uprisings, conscription or even tactical nuclear warheads as you see fit, all for different effects. There will also be a DEFCON system to determine your nation's war footing, and the option of pushing The Button remains - though now things are simplified. Every nation simply has a "nuclear score" which is how many IP they've poured into nukes. If a nation reaches DEFCON 1, they can either use their superweapon or unleash their atomic bombs, with the results determined by the GM and their Nuclear Strength. Be warned that your enemies will automatically retaliate if you open fire . . . .

So Im thinking about bringing back Fallout IOT now that I have time. However there are going to be a few changes, While Im probably going to keep the SPECIAL System, but removing the traits and a few other modifies to make it a little simpler, Ill also add stability, and finally Ill have ALL the rules finished before I start. Also If you would like here is the map im planing on using:

Spoiler :

However I will probably get rid of Hawaii, I would like your opinion on this, and remember about the setting of Fallout, would Hawaii be viable in this universe?

Finally some reasons why not all of South America is on this map.

1. The Andes would be hell to cross in a Post-Apocalyptic world

2. If the Washington DC is full of giant fire breathing ants, I don't even want to see what is in the Fallout Universes Amazon, however that could be good RP stuff.

well im glad I know that you like hawaii a lot LH, but the real question is, would a Post-Nuclear Apocalypse Hawaii be able to communicate with the mainland and be a viable nation in the Fallout Universe that isn't completely secluded from the rest of the world?

Being from Nevada, I wonder why the hell Nevada's so ugly in that map. Just... eww!

I really wish there was a map of the United States and Canada that got rid of blocky borders and went for more natural looking ones.

It would have been fun to see the joys of South America in Fallout IOT, especially as the Andes would like the Rockies prove fun to deploy secret bases in. :(

O well... my planned militant cult will enjoy the edges of the Amazons for experimentation and defence. That or Panama (I am zee keeper of the eye of the needle!)

well im still open to a new map if anyone can find/make one

Well in consideration also consider a environmental map to consider the environment of outside the USA especially, especially in the possible mutated rainforests... ;)

Ok new map for Fallout IOT

also Ailed what exactly do you mean by an Environmental map?

IOTMAD will start within a week, by the way.

I have added a "pop cap" of sorts to armies, fleets, air wings and spies. In order to raise it, you have to build bases of the respective service branch, but only one base can be built per province.

Choose wisely.
