IOT Developmental Thread

Alright, we'll take the spam rules and leave you to your peace :p

EDIT: just realized, someone already suggested a similar spam cutting rule, so no need :D

Being high on meth rings, it was easy for time to fly while waiting for Thor to hand over the keys. And at the same time, drawing up rule after rule after rule.

...it's 17 rules now, by the way. It just keeps growing as I think of new ideas.

Don't you think you're risking it becoming too... complicated? ;)

when can we expect IOT2?

Within 12 hours; I want to give Methos and Matrix at least 24 hours before starting the game. The only reason I have to wait is I'm afraid that since IOT IV hasn't TECHNICALLY ended, they might modspank me.

Don't you think you're risking it becoming too... complicated? ;)

No more complicated than the forum rules. I'll do most of the calculations for the players, anyway, so all is good.

Any further questions, please PM me/leave a message on my page. This is officially the Imperium Whateverum development thread now it seems, so I've done my part. :p

Yes, Tanicius has the right idea.

From now on, this thread is about IOT V, no more discussion of IOT II, as it clogs up the thread.

Any offenders will of course be reported for spam and such.

I don't want to fight with dice. We should have some kind of unit system and use an RNG.

Guys, we should solve every battle with a subgame of Magic the Gathering.

Oh god...

If you're going down that route, might as well take advantage of the fact that warfare is won with speed, and therefore:

Whichever side completes a stage of the original Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis faster than the other wins the battle. Best 2 of three, so it applies to three zones.

...what. I was BOUND to try and drag the 'hog into this.

To make this post a bit more serious, I'd recommend that cabinet idea. Find several neutral dice rollers in particular.

If you want to gut economics though, assign all territories a base economic value, with infrastructure tech and such as well. From all these territories economic x infra values, you get your annual tax income. You can spend this revenue buying new units, developing new techs, etc.

I'm keeping IOT simple, but since you all seem to want a more complex game, there's an idea for you.

How about RPS? That way it's all player input, still sort of random, and there's no way for cheating because what each guy did would be revealed.

I don't wan to be limited to 5 posts, but I do want to cut back on spam.

So why don't we compromise? No post limit, but if the entire post is irrelevant (Not a story, diplomacy, orders, part of the battle story (If we're doing it), etc. etc), the mod of the game has full right to flag you.

I can support that, Omega. After all, a rule works best when tailored to its need, rather than being a blanket ban.

Why don't we just make it so that battle orders and such are sent to the GM by PM, instead of posting them in the thread? Wouldn't that cut down on a lot of clutter?

Yes, but it would be nigh impossible for players to keep track of the big picture. The problem isn't the orders, it's when people start dissecting them in public that the limpets set in.

Am I to assume that IOT4 is dead? Because contrary to certain presumptions, I put the brakes on to see if this thread would develop a plan to salvage it. I'm more than willing to take whatever is settled on here and mark a 'reset' in the existing game, if people would like to see a resolution to the Great War.

If not, that's fine.

Alright guys, the ideas in the last couple of posts will be added to the OP.

And I'm thinking, since it seems as though the trickle of ideas is somewhat slowing down, I'll move the cut-off date from Friday to either Tuesday or Wednesday depending on the amount of ideas presented the rest of the day.

@Thorvald: Well, I did put it up to a vote (not a very official one, just a kinda "hands up" one) and it seemed as though most people wanted to start on a clean slate.

If you like being the GM/administrator of the games I could always assign you as one of the "cabinet members" (I really like the idea). Or better yet, depending on how I feel once the voting process is done, you could be GM IOT V.

Whatever lets me stick it to Tanicius. :)

Back towards the start of IOT, Cull attempted to drag me in, but I refrained, thinking that the idea was too simple and sounded boring.

Well, I couldn't have been more wrong!!!!! If there's a restart, I'm joining.

EDIT: I'm obviously new to all of this IOT stuff. Instead of reading through this forum, could someone explain to me what the differences between IOT II and IOT V are? I hope this doesn't break the no IOT II discussion rule, but if it does, just VM me. Thanks in advance.
