IOT Enlightenment 2: Philosophers and Kings

Lighthearter, you liar! It's been over two hours since you said the update was posted!

Jk, I don't mind.

Anyway, the world is heating up! And since orders are truly locked, I'll end the anticipation I'm sure you guys are feeling. I'm invading Iberia. I will unite western Europe (except for France) under one ruler!

The Cape Republic launches a massive assault into Bolivia. 4 Regulars and 10 Irregulars versus 11 Irregulars. Can the Bolivians stand their ground? Uh, no. With a loss of 3 Irregulars, the Cape stands victorious over the Bolivian rebels. The Ivory Coast holds against Cap claiming attempts, but the Falklands have fallen into Cape hands.

The Chinese Army has launched a powerful drive overland into Kazakhstan from Sinkiang - and is opposed by a Hindustani counteroffensive aiming to seize Sinkiang. The armies clash in the field - the Hindustani have six Regulars to the Chinese five and fourteen Irregulars - who will win?

China emerges victorious from the gunsmoke and debris, losing four Irregulars and two Regulars to the Hindustani forces, but destroying all six Hindustani Regulars. The road to India is open.

Meanwhile, the Iron Islands brace for invasion from the Australian Empire - Irregulars hide in the jungles as Australian Regulars hit the beaches. The battles for Borneo and Java erupt! Borneo falls easily, as does Java. The Iron Islands are destroyed and defeated.

Australia, high off its victory in Indonesia, deploys two Lines of Battle to Hindustani waters - they outnumber their foes in both engagements, but will that be enough to offset the home turf advantage? Well, in the Arabian Sea, it is. No casualties are dealt as the Hindustani squadron retires southward in good order. In the Bay of Bengal, however? The engagement turns brutal as the Hindustani admiral uses trade ships to bait the Australians, then hits them with the naval equivalent of an ambush, ruthlessly sinking the Australian flagship and a supporting Ship of the Line. The Aussies aren't ready to go down without a fight, though, and a Hindustani Ship of the Line burns to the waterline when its magazines detonate. The Australians retreat to Java, unable to break Hindustan's trade lines. It might not matter, what with the Chinese advance in Kazakhstan. The Philippines built a Ship of the Line and have sailed to Java, obviously awaiting Australia's go-ahead to engage the Hindustanis at sea.

The Celtic Union spreads across Madagascar, Hawai'i and into Siberia, while Keme seizes ground from Iraq to Liberia into Persia. Romania-Yugoslavia and Keme now run headlong into each other as they dispatch armies into Anatolia against the Ottoman Turks - who will win?

The Kingdom of Keme asserts its dominance over the region in a blast of gunfire, wiping out three Ottoman Irregulars, two Romanian ones and a single Romanian Regular. In retaliation, the Ottomans destroy one Keme Irregular, and the Romanians shatter the other two, plus a Regular. The Anatolian Campaign has broken all forces involved - and now another battle is brewing as the Ottoman Army attempts a breakout through Greece. Two Romanian Irregulars and a matching number of Regulars stand in the way of four Irregulars. The result is comically one-sided in Romania's favor. The Ottomans have been destroyed.

The Romanians launch a powerful attack against the Poles, but a pair of stubborn Irregulars manage to hold the line in the Baltic States, despite one of them being annihilated. In Poland itself, the Romanians break through against a Polish Regular, but cannot destroy the unit. South Urals withstood a colonization attempt, but the Caucasus has fallen to Romania-Yugoslavia.

The Italians have learned a valuable lesson: Don't mess with Prussia. 11 Irregulars 100% annihilated 2 Regulars, at the cost of only one of their own. Prussia has sent a nasty letter to Venice, accusing Antonio Februzzi's mother of certain anatomically impossible actions and requesting more troops to slaughter. In addition, the entire Italian navy has been shattered by the Celtic Union's navy in the North Sea, at the price of only one Privateer. Two companies of Regulars manage to land in Norway prior to the devastation of the Italian Navy, and square off against four Norskandian Irregulars. A complete and total Italian victory destroys all the Norskandians at no significant casualties.

A regiment of Italian Regulars on the march for Spain deserts, obviously funded by the Norskandians. But that's no more than a leaf in the wind for the disaster slamming into the Italian mainland - every single Italian mainland province except Italy itself rebels, claiming the banner of the "Free European Republic" - one unit of Italian Irregulars attempts to hold Southern France. Against all odds, they hold, depriving the Free Republic of one province. It hardly matters, though, considering the four-province power breathing down the Italians' necks. They request protectorate status from Norskandia.

New Wales launches a massive assault on Cuba and Hispanola, seizing them without a fight. Portugal similarly falls without a fight. Italy, New Wales and Iberia face off in a huge 5 Reg v 5 Reg v 5 Reg brawl in Spain, 25000 men to a side. Cannons roar, muskets crackle and cavalry charge - by the end of the vicious battle, Italy has seized the province, at a cost of 3 Regulars. New Wales has been shattered, withdrawing only a single Regular from the brutal war zone into Portugal, whereas the Iberians have retired in good order on the massive Iberian merchant marine, slipping around into Keme national waters and successfully retreating to Mexico. Iberia in Exile lives on, claiming California without undue effort.

The Dene blockade Iberia in Exile, but are disappointed when a rebellion in Northern Mexico is thwarted by Iberian agents. Iberia strikes back with a series of offensives on the Dene border - three Dene Regulars are destroyed as Deseret falls to the Iberians, at the cost of only a single Regular. The remaining Dene Regular and all four Irregulars desert, and the crew of a Privateer in the Caribbean are enticed to turn pirate and flee to begin preying on shipping lanes for profit. 2IP worth of infrastructure in Alaska goes up in flames as coincidental fires erupt across their industrial heartland, consuming factories and armories alike.

The CSA(Dixie) has taken exception to the Dene policy of declaring unilateral naval control over trade routes and installing blockades of nations who were only brought into conflict with Dene because of the Dene's so-called maritime "Rules." The CSN sallies from Mobile - four Ships of the Line, two Privateers and a flagship frigate, with the express intention of breaking the Dene blockade in the Caribbean. The Dene blockade squadron of now just two Ships of the Line takes a CS Ship of the Line with it, but ultimately is sunk. The CSA now rules the Caribbean, preserving Spanish trade and staring down the New Welsh fleet in the Bahamas, as if daring them to make the same mistake as the Dene did. However, the CSA has declared neutrality on land, as it is unwilling to engage in a war that does not protect its best interests.

New Rules: Anyone who wants to know how many spies they lost, PM me.
All trade MUST be listed in your orders. If you list nothing, you will be assumed to be trading with no one.

As always, point out any error you see.

Yes, our honor is satisfied.

And my guess is that there is nowhere else to expand.

Edit: I sent regulars into Portugal. 2, I think.

The first news from the south, that summer, was less than golden.
Despite the disadvantages Jaime Castagura had created through bad living and an increasingly bad character,
despite his having alienated the friendships of those he dealt with daily, the Spanish Field Marshal had not lost the genius that had made him a dread opponent.

Jaime’s mystique was founded on the fact that he seldom lost a battle when he was in charge.
The forces of Spain advancing on Deseret crumbled before the defending Dene host.
Till Jaime himself left Hermosillo and met the defenders at the town of Meadows, where the desert gave way to green fecundity of valley meadowland by a tributary of the Colorado River.
There the superior numbers and quickness of Dene horsemen did little good.
The Spanish fixed them in place on boggy ground while cannons aboard Iberian makeshift rafts in channels nearby punished them with continuous artillery fire.

The engagement at Meadows was unusual. It occurred in brief, sudden bloodlettings over several days once the initial massive exchange subsided.
The Dene tried to draw Jaime out. Jaime worked the Dene flanks, keeping them fixed within range of the floating artillery.

Each side suffered a level of casualties considered unacceptable in an engagement that would not prove decisive.
The Dene finally chose a genuine withdrawal into the desert. Once there, out of sight, they sent a substantial force south, through the wilderness.
Meanwhile, the Dene demonstrated in front of Meadows. That kept the Spanish main force in place while the southern group presented itself at the gates of Phoenix.

More news came up from Deseret.
It was not good.
Jaime had faked a withdrawal from Meadows.
The Dene had believed what they saw.
The Dene took half the remaining troops and scurried off to assist the siege of Phoenix. They were forty miles south of Meadow when the Spanish attacked the troops left behind.
The surprise was complete. The slaughter afterward was very nearly so.

The Iberian success put the Dene in a spot where they not only had to abandon the assault on Phoenix,
but also break through a blocking Spanish field army that had separated the Dene from their supply lines.
It did not go well for the Dene.

The above is a variation on a passage from “Surrender to the Will of the Night” by Glen Cook.

You are surrendering to China?

To: The Celtic Union

We request that you vacate Hawaii immediately. We have claimed it as part of our SoI. Not vacating it will be considered an act of war.

On phone so will be brief and follow up in detail later.

@PF, you were in no position to claim it and we weren't convinced Kinich would make peace so we decided it would be better if we took it and worked details out with you later.

@Arrow, that's not how it works. Ignore an ultimatum, expect to get smacked down.

@NC64, given you're own ongoing war don't expect us to take that threat seriously. However we are willing to discuss the purchase of your claim or to sell sovereignty.

The Cape Republic: 47 IP

Set 20 IP into the Falklands' industry.

Set 20 IP into Argentinia's industry.

Purchase a general with 5 IP.

Purchase 2 agents with 2 IP.

Have the forces that fought in the Falklands go to join with the forces on the cost of the Ivory Coast and then commence another attempt to take the Ivory Coast. Let see the Ivory Coast resist the combined forces of 4 regulars!

In tribute to Plato's homeland we seek to make a allaince with the Greeks.

I am trying to understand whether, surrendering allows me to pursue this , or is the Sino- Aussie alliance planning to take over the entire lands ? The ball is in your court, I realize, I am hardly at a situation, where I can negotiate terms.

However, as you have realized, I would be sticking to the ones, that I consider allies, till something else forces my otherwise.

We have apparently made a wrong choice of our friends. Iron Isles, while a very assertive and aggressive in its approach, have somehow screwed up the plot; The nation is no more, apparently its leader gone absconding. Hindustan however, beaten back both on land and in the seas, seeks to continue on.

Given a chance, we would very much want to learn of the offer of non aggression that is provided to us, that is, IF it is given to us.

Regards,
Hindustan Foreign Office.

The Grand Council of the Celtic Union was gathered in full session for the first time to discuss the conflict with the Merchant Republic. The High King was addressing the assembled, chiefs, earls, counts, princes and lesser kings when a messenger burst in.
"Your majesties, my lords, word from Italy. They are offering peace to the Union."
The gathered nobility took a second to look at each other before they all practically fell over laughing.
Once he regained control of himself and wiped a tear from his eye he thought for a second before giving his response.
"Tell that [-deleted, family friendly forum-] Februzzi our terms. Repatriation of all Norskandian and Iberian lands, cession of southern France to the Celtic Union, recognition of the Free European Republic - oh, offer them a trade pact whilst your at it - and peace with Prussia and Poland. And remind him that if he refuses he'll have more than a rebellion to deal with."

To: Hindustan

Are you surrendering as in "we will give you and China all our lands" or are you surrendering as in "we would like to discuss peace, preferably in terms that will allow our nation to exist"?

We would like to discuss peace, preferably in terms that will allow our nation to exist

We would like to discuss peace, preferably in terms that will allow our nation to exist

China was the ones who initially declared war, so we believe that it would be more appopriate for you to start the peace talks with them. However, we will offer input.

In other news, the Celtic Union has agreed to ceede Hawaii for 7 IPs which we will pay them.

I thought we agreed to buy your claim for 7 IP, but whatever works for me either way.

Wait, no no no no no. I thought I was buying Hawaii for 7 IP. Right. Time to fire the Diplomat and Translator.

Is this new deal acceptable?

From China
To Hindustan:

We want you to give to China 18 IP's and the following regions:

Pakistan
Bangladesh

Also we want you to limit your army to only 2 regulars and 4 irregulars and have only 2 Ships of the Line. You will sign a Military Alliance with China however, and China shall protect you from foreign invasions.

But the most importand is that you give the title of ''Emperor of India'' to Emperor Qianlong and your Monarch will take the title of Duke of Delhi.

What do you say?
