"Buhn-buhn-bum-BUM-BUM!"
Welcome to Pierre News at 11. I'm Shawn Persimone.
Our lead story today is the annexation of surrounding territory by our military. First reactions showed a mixture of everything from acceptance to happiness to outrage, but this statement from President Hennessy quelled all dissidence.
"In order to achieve peace, we must have more resources under our control. After all, we are the Dakota Union, are we not? And having this limited part of the Dakotas under our control does not full constitute as a united Dakota. For this reason I have ordered our military, and following them, settlers to take their places in these territories. We expect little resistance, in fact, a likely welcome to our presence there. We will use these resources for one purpose only. To eventually destroy the CSA, free our brothers and sisters of democracy there, and restore peace and democracy to America."
The army has also issued a call for volunteers. They hope to raise five regiments by year's end, but the understanding is that if they do not receive that many volunteers, they will institute a draft, with the full approval of the President.
In other news, Mr. H. A. Harriman has announced a return to baseball. Specifically, he will be forming the Pierre Coyotes, and will be taking them around to play local and amateur teams. He hopes to soon have a league set up from the new areas under Dakota Union control.
And finally, a new report out today from the Economy Department shows that our GNP is the highest it has been in years. In response, the President has promised to further increase our GNP, and will be investing income this year into the industries of Pierre.
That's all the news we have for you tonight. Please tune in tomorrow night, for another edition of Pierre News at 11. I'm Shawn Persimone. Good evening.
